Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster number IV, now things are starting to get serious! The fourth game in the series, originally titled FF2 in the US, was first released in 1991, and since then, has received loads of different versions, and even a complete remake for the DS in 2007.
At the time of its release FF4 was met with critical acclaim, with its revolutionary Active Time Battle (ATB) mechanics, and storytelling being the stand out features.
I can highly recommend playing FF4 if you want to go back and get a taste of Final Fantasy history, and this Pixel Remaster is a great way to do so.
I’ve also been reviewing all of the Pixel Remasters, so feel free to sub if you want more.

This is my favorite FF. I loved the fact that there was no job system, which, I think takes away from the individuality from the characters. Might be because I got to experience this game when it first came out.

4 and 6 hold SO much nostalgia for me. I bought both when they first came out. The pixel remasters did good with them. Finished 1-3 now I will start up 4-6 next.

Honestly this is my favorite version of the game. Dont care that much for the extra content that was in the GBA versions. Getting more exp is nothing but a plus in my book, for me it does not make the game easier but make the game less grindy imo. This might be a unpopular opinion but I like FF5 more then FF4.

@@HellFireRPGs all people talk about on youtube is FF5, the game that didn't come to the west back in the day it was alright, but the story was pretty lacking and very grindy, i still love ff4 and it's my favorite (there is no 'best in the series', just everyone has a different favorite, though very few people will ff2 or ff3 :P )

It's funny that people love dunking on Tidus so much, and claimed that it was bad voice acting, when the Japanese version is exactly the same. Ha Ha HA HA HA... 🤣 The whole point of that interaction was to give Yuna a reason to laugh or smile, because she doesn't have one, knowing her ultimate fate. The Trials of the Fayth have nothing on what a Summoner must feel knowing that with each step they inch closer to their death. Regarding FFIV, I am not really a fan of the art in the Pixel Remaster - though the revamped OST is so banging! Love the story of the game, and even though everyone loves calling Edward a Spoony Bard, I thought he was an interesting character.

This is why I do end up playing the DS version more, as it does add a lot of customisation for the characters with the special skills they can learn, alongside the new game + bonuses! Alongside a way more difficult game overall (though maybe a little too difficult ^^').

The art of delivering a good story with as little words as possible, mostly because of older consoles memory limitations, is something that I learned to appreciate more and more over the years. FF4 definitely achieves that. I always felt that video games should strive to deliver their story in the most interactive way possible and keep the dialogues short. Closer to a theater play than a book or a movie. I think Chrono Trigger really hit that sweet spot and nothing quite got there since for me... Recently, I played Fae Tactic and really enjoyed the "to the point" dialogues. The focus is clearly on delivering a satisfying story and having fun gameplay rather than trying to get you to watch a movie in between two quests. I really, really recommend checking it out. Don't let the name turn you off. (It's on gamepass too)

I’m playing through the DS version right now. I’m enjoying it so far. Although I know this version is the hard version I’ve been making progress. The story really surprised me at how deep it is for a game that originally came out in 1991. Right now this game is in the top 10 of JRPGs for me, but admittedly it’s at the lower end of that. I would also put FF7 and 10 ahead of it to be honest. Still though, to make my top 10 means it’s a game well worth playing.

Excellent review, I dare say it is even 'spoony!' FFIV is one of my all-time faves, but it may be lacking for newer gamers compared to current Gen games. That soundtrack holds up tho!

This is my favorite FF but entirely for sentimental reasons. What's not sentimental, though, is the fact that this game has the best video game music ever made hands down. Nobuo Uematsu really did amazing work on this. That being said, I like some of the graphics on the remaster and the revised menu but this version of the music is terrible. I don't know why they went with it. Even the original 16bit SNES versions sounded better. It sounds like it was done by a college student using a hacked copy of FL Studio lol

going thew these and so far this is the only one im disappointed in 😮‍💨 they really messed up the soundtrack. only liked one of them. also seams that the side quest with yang is missing or I just did something differently

I love this game, I recently beat the game on the original SNES, for it's time, it is amazing what they were able to do story wise, it's a JRPG that's not too grindy (except for a couple of dungeons) and I beat it without the use of a guide. Final Fantasy IV was truly the start of greatness for the series.

If you like the room that much, I guess. Most fans are disappointed with the two dungeon omissions from the GBA and PSP versions though, which is enough for some people to favor those versions over this one.
