Thank you for making this video. It was exactly what I was looking for. I'm new to FF universe, started with XIV recently. However I do remember Reno and Rude fondly from small clips back in the day (I now see it was snippets from the movie) and want to get into the that famous FFVII world I've heard so much about. But all those remakes, rebirth, reunion around, I got so lost in what is the updated version of the original game. It is clear now that if I want the core story I just have to play the OG first and I'm happy with this in-depth video because now I also know in what order should I play/watch the other versions of the game as well!

I just started playing FF this year starting with FFXV. I knew of final fantasy, well I should say I was familiar with Cloud and I thought that he WAS final fantasy and that was the only game 😂. Then a few years passed which leads us to the present time I got into video games and have the money to indulge in them, seen final fantasy again, found out that it was a large franchise and instantly wanted to consume myself in the lore and games. So far I just have XV|VII. Loving it a lot one of my favorite game franchises. Can’t wait to play Reunion

I haven't watched the video but lemme say what I think is the best order. If you wanna play the Original FF7, go ahead. You'll have an amazing time with it. After that, play Crisis Core, simply because you get to know Zack and it's just so cool. After that, Advent Children Complete. Those small Zack scenes is the reason why I think it's better to play Crisis Core before watching Advent Children. After that. You can either play Dirge of Cerberus. Or just play the Remake. That's my order and I think you should play it. Edit: However, if you don't want to play the Original, you can play the Remake. I'm gonna trust the devs and say that after that you can play Crisis Core. And then of course Rebirth.

I hope they will port Ever Crisis to Switch/Playstation, just as they did with FF XV Pocket Edition...

FFVII OG is also on PS3, PS Vita, Android and IOS incase you don’t have any of the other listed consoles Also you could use the Ps1 discs on PS1/2/3

Always play game in the order they came out that the only way to experience the whole vision and evolution that the creators went through. This counts for any franchise, it happens that writers change the established rules of the story's world or just plain change the direction to make it contemporary. Following a release order make it clear to the reader/gamer how a story and their writers evolved.

So, FF7 Remake is not a remake... It's a sequel disguised as a Remake. And no, I'm not the only one saying this...the devs themselves have also gone on record stating that this is indeed a sequel to the original compilation of FF7. I believe, with this information, the best play/watch order to avoid all story and plot spoilers regarding each title is this... First, we have the original FF7 from 1997. This will introduce you to the world and characters the way you were meant to and give you the raw experience in the best possible way without getting spoilers to the immediate story and plot. Next, the Advent Children movie from 2005. The is a direct sequel to the 1997 game. It depicts the aftermath of the game's events and slightly expands some lore elements. There is a Extended Version that was released in 2009 which was tasked to help better understand the film's overall plot and help with some story telling which is highly recommended over the original 2005 version. Thirdly, we have Crisis Core from 2007. This takes us somewhere between 6 years to roughly 1 week prior to the events of the original FF7. It fills some backstory of characters old and new, as well as expanding lore. In fourth place, we have Dirge of Cerberus from 2006. This one you can more or less skip, but the devs have stated that it is still in the official canon, so. It expands lore, as well as answers questions the player may or may not have had from some of the past compilation entries. (end of original compilation) So, Before Crisis is part of the original compilation, but story elements seem to link up more directly with the "Remake" compilation. Chronologically it takes place before & along side Crisis Core, telling a story focusing on the Turks, but it can really be skipped all together. Here is where we jump back into Crisis Core with the 2022 remake titled Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion. This is a 100% faithful retelling of the original Crisis Core from 2007 with updated visuals, audio, and enhanced gameplay. Reunion leads into the next title in the "Remake Saga"... Final Fantasy VII: Remake. It is important to remember that Remake is a sequel disguised as a Remake, and it is extremely important to play the Intergrade Version of the game. Here we get a 90-something percent faithful retelling of the original FF7, but with a twist. I will not give spoilers because I know some still haven't been able to play yet. FF7: Remake comprises solely the Midgar section of the original 1997 game, however, told in a slightly different way. The Intergrade Version will lead directly into FF7: Rebirth, which will itself lead into the third and (alleged final) chapter of this FF7 trilogy. Now this is where things get interesting. The devs have gone on record stating that no matter what happens with these games, that they will still lead into Advent Children. This tells me that they intend to have the Extended Version of Advent Children be a direct sequel to this new trilogy since things happen a little differently compared to the original 2005 version. Probably not the best explanation, but this was the best I could do without giving any spoilers whatsoever. I hope this helps to clarify though!

Tho it’s not necessary to understand the main plot of FFVII I’d highly recommend Dirge of Cerberus. I’m bias because I am a huge fan of Vincent Valentine but I found the gameplay and story of that game to be very fun and interesting although it’s quite the departure from the rest of the series.

can i play ever crisis instead of the og ? long ago i did play og but only till around 2 hours in of disc 2, and i don't wanna restart the game, and i forgot og's storyline and stuff. also, i recently finished ff7remake, and since i have never finished og, and they are changing the story anyway, do i even need to play og? if i do, can i play ever crisis instead? should i buy crisis core reunion that came out recently? thanks so much in adv!

I have played the remake, integrated dlc and crisis core, i think I'll play the og next since I haven't yet, but should i finish it or stop in the exact moment as the remake end?

I personally think that you shouldn't have to play OG at all at this point. If you are concerned that Crisis Core will spoil some things for ff7 Rebirth - then how are you not concerned that OG basically spoils the entire A-plot of the remake trilogy (or however many parts they do)? I mean... FF7 OG is a great game to be sure, but if you are concerned about spoiling the remakes - don't even go near it. I would recommend for new players to play it AFTER the remakes conclude, if you are putting remakes ahead. Which I personally recommend you do. The Remake gave so much context to Midgar and Avalanche and the characters - the OG version just feels bland next to it. If the rest of the series is done with the same attention to detail - playing the OG is doing yourself a huge disservice if you are at all spoiler-sensitive. Advent Children - also, just leave it for last. Chrisis Core - I honestly feel that you should listen to the devs and play it before Rebirth. No matter how you look at it - this is a prequel to Final Fantasy. The "spoilers" that it delivers is mostly regarding the past events that drive characters' motivations. I'm sure that the makers of Rebirth will be mindful of the fact that CC released before, and would not have recommended it unless this context was important. And it will probably be. For one, Zack survives the ambush in the remake, and could play a larger part in the Rebirth. Unless you play Crisis Core - you would have no idea who this dude is. Sephiroth is also changed - he is mindful of Fate which is a completely new element in the Remake trilogy. It is likely that knowing his background will be crucial in Rebirth, and for that you gotta play Crisis Core too. In the end, I don't think that this video is serving the best interests of a modern player who only just now touches the amazing world of FF7. Rather, you just seem to push the OG version hard down everyone's throat because it was the game that you jave played as a kid. Failing to recognize that it is NOT the best FF7 experience today.

Hey i just beat the original Final fantasy 7 and plan on playing both final fantasy 7 remake and crisis core reunion, but I don't know which one is best to play first. If it makes sense i would like to play reunion first, but if it ruins any surprises in the FF7 remake then i would obviously not want to play reunion first. So does it make sense to play reunion first or should i start by playing the remake before i play reunion?

I havent played the OG yet and don't plan on playing it until part 3 of the remake comes out years later but is the order fine: FF7 Remake Crisis Core Reunion and Rebirth?

Hate to break it to you, Crisis Core FF7 for the PSP was my gateway game to the Final Fantasy series and I didn't knew that it was a prequel to the OG. The twist has forever been ruined for me. But hey, I enjoyed it.

I just finished ff7 remake interglade but cannot play rebirth becouse i dont have ps5, so i dont know what to play now to be honest. To be real i dont realy like the gameplay of OG FF7, turn based games are not my style.. So now i dont know if i should wait for rebirth to make it to pc, or to play crysis core, or to wait for the whole trilogy after it comes to PC before playing crysis core (whitch will be in like 5 years). Sorry for the long comment, but i really need answers :)).

I've played XIV as my first MMO. I'm going to go with VII Remake because old school video games are just no longer appealing to me. Aside from watching my brothers play X and playing XIV myself, This will be my first FF game.

I'm bored looking for some nostalgia, and all I get is different systems and not compatible CRAP with huge variations in which I should play and what order. I just went back n beat FF7 OG on xbox one and own a ps4 also... annoying tho lol

I don't think a newcomer should play Remake first because they won't know who Zack is, it'll make zero sense, so they'll Google it and it'll spoil FF7's twist. I also wouldn't advise playing Crisis Core prior to FF7 because it flat-out spoils FF7. Here's my list: FF7 OG Advent Children Dirge of Cerberus Before Crisis (optional) Crisis Core: Reunion Remake Rebirth The First Soldier (optional) Ever Crisis

People should remember that these aren’t all of the same quality. I’d honestly say everything but the OG/Remakes are just kinda weak fanfiction although the movie has some merits. But like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus are far worse games than FF7 even if you do happen to like the story. I agree with play FF7 > watch Ac > play remakes. But you can really go one step further and just play FF7 and cherish the memory rather than let their new stuff tarnish it.

For story, the best order is OG FFVII, and then whatever. All other titles spoil the best revelations in the franchise.
