Ohh yeah, cloud's brain is scrambled

Here are my thoughts, as someone that particularly loves Aerith. Also, as someone currently playing OG as well, the ending of Rebirth has actually significantly changed the narrative we expect so keep that in mind. Part 3 will genuinely be unrecognizable to us and I'm really looking forward to that. Let's go back to Costa Del Sol. If you walked with Aerith on the beach, she tells Cloud that he'll meet her future self and that he's going to love her. Cloud meets this future Aerith in a place that she calls "my dream" and she wants him not to look up. So future Aerith made Cloud wake up in "her dream" and one identifying factor of this being her dream is the iridescence in the sky. In Costa Del Sol, Aerith asked Cloud what his ideal date would be. He basically responded by saying "a walk" would be an ideal date for him. In the "dream", as Aerith calls it, they go for a walk through the slums. She tries to create this ideal date for him, making it memorable by pointing out that he's buying his "first gift for Aerith", holding his hand like she always does, buying candy with him and taking a couple's photo together. All this is canon and not optional. Interestingly enough, what Aerith calls a dream is, instead, called "a world that has accepted its fate" by Sephiroth. Keep that in mind. Future Aerith has created a dream for Cloud. Future Aerith has created a world for Cloud. In the song No Promises to keep, Aerith sings this line "lived a life without a care, in the world safe for you" Towards the end of this dream, the purpose of her actions are revealed. The most obvious is that she gives Cloud the White Materia. It's pale green like it should be. The "present" Aerith has one that is transparent and she had said it's because the whispers took important memories away from her. Basically, future Aerith is returning these important memories to "present" Aerith through Cloud. The other reasons, apart from saving the world, have to do with understanding the nature of her relationship with Cloud. In my playthrough, Cloud indicated that he wants to spend more time with her just like they were doing. From his words, she finally understands the nature of their relationship. (Cloud would love to continue going on walks with her, where she lovingly holds his hand and he showers her with little gifts and where they share happy moments just like typical couples do e.g. entering couples competitions) In the end, future Aerith has accomplished what she wanted to do. Sephiroth even said "I underestimated you" to Aerith. The thing is, because Cloud had returned future Aerith's white materia to present Aerith... those important memories returned to our Aerith. Thus there is no longer any difference between "future Aerith" and our Aerith. "Thanks for returning it to me." Aerith said to Cloud, having received the White Materia. Then she gave her transparent one to Cloud, however, in the final scene of the game Cloud looks at a pale green White Materia. It's full of memories. Memories that Cloud shouldn't have. At the very end, when Cloud looks at the sky he sees that familiar iridescence from the dream Aerith gave him. I believe Aerith, while trying to help Cloud find himself, has created this "dream" world for him so that he doesn't focus on mourning her. Instead, he has to focus on himself. She's doing him this great gesture of love by creating a world for him where he can see and speak to her lest he mourn unendingly. Basically, regardless of whether Aerith is dead or alive, Cloud will always be able to be with her. When she's in trouble, she'll "send up smoke" and Cloud, being her bodyguard, will protect her. I also believe Cloud knows way more than he should because, in the OG, it was only through Bugenhagen that Cloud learnt that Aerith was praying to stop meteor. But in Rebirth's ending, Cloud and Aerith mutually share an understanding of their duties from OG. Cloud has to stop Sephiroth while Aerith has to stop meteor. This conversation should not be happening at this point in the story at all. This is why I think Part 3 of VIIR will be shockingly different. We'll see I guess. I, for one, am totally looking forward to it! Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is officially my favourite Final Fantasy (surpassing my love for Final Fantasy X) Cloud and Aerith's love story is just so pure. A love that transcends death.

Zack is one optimistic guy. Really hope he found his happiness.

Aerith had me tearing up

So certain people were chosen to fight Sephiroth in different realities, to prevent him from merging them, from life merging with death, meaning all would cease to be, because all would merge, there would be no distinctions, there fore it would cease to be tangible. Zack wasn't bought back to life, but it was an alternative him in a reality that was created to have Zack on hold to help out with Sephiroth. Zack seemed to of been confused why he wasn't dead but later on he showed signs of noticing, making choices, ''who do i choose'' and such, he started to get his role, he was glad he could see Cloud again and how much he has grown, Biggs was brought back for the sake of Zack, that was his purpose, Zack understood that only after he got shot, because he started to notice that this world is a fragment that shouldn't be, he didn't even mourn him he just left and accepted his role. Those guards kept showing up randomly, like in a dream, trying to kill him just as they actually did originally, but he defied death long enough to do his job. Dead people are just fragments of those people ,they are actually dead, i feel as though this is a depiction of when the dead come back to help you, your family members and such and they just go back to being dead. But this kind of thing isn't normal, only somebody who is able to tap into the life stream can achieve this, even in real life, no normal person could ever bring back the dead. It was a unique case, because we're dealing with Sepiroth who is on a similar level as the Cetra, the only way to stop him would be to mess with time and look for capable people, related to these events, to be able to stop him, basically we required an anomaly to stop an anomaly. The Cetra told us they learn from history unlike others, they want life to be as it is, but to remove something like Jenova and Sephiroth, some tweaks will have to pass Cetras ''don't touch'' restrictions. With Aerith, they tried to portray that she got killed but there was a sort of different reality around her that only Cloud could tap into, for everybody else, she was bleeding out, which was the actual reality and still is, but we are viewing it from Cloud's perspective and just like Aeith, Tifa will also be given her role in part 3, to heal Clouds mind, Aerith is preserving his mind from Sephiroth, Jenova cells, degradation, put him in a bit of a trans to keep him operating, because he clearly can't handle it himself and he is a danger to everyone around him. I was a little disappointed they didn't show them putting her body in the water, but they indicated that they did, since they were sitting there mourning by the water. He's the only one that can see the tear, in a way it is also a tear in his mind. Aeith put his mind in an in-between, he knows she's dead, but he's also the only one who ca see her ''spirit'' per say. So he has to be the crazy guy who is saved from depression, while everyone else is accepting reality. I can understand why people may or may not like this approach, the story hasn't changed, it just became deeper, a bit more articulate. Back in the old game, there were no such graphics and you could write so much not to bore people, things were kept simple. It was harder to achieve this dream/spiritual like clashing of realities in a comprehensive way, this generations technology could actually do so, did they do it well? I can't say for sure, because we have plenty of story left to get our ''aha i get it now'', because this story wants to keep you guessing, to look forward to knowing more, so only then could you make you conclusions. As to why people have a different opinion. Well, this type of story, with spirits, Cetras, magic, spiritual worlds etc. was always closer to heart for people with complex imaginations, to write this type of world alone requires such a person/people. It fits the philosophical types of people, realists tend to get lost in all of this, while for philosophers it is rather simple to understand, but hard to describe. We all have these moments, when we feel something but we can't find the words to express it, this world was filled with symbolisms, that your average person would miss, as they never bothered to think about it, if anything i'd say they tried to turn more people into little Cetras (philosophers) hahaha.

I understood none of this lmao!! It’s great to see such a beloved classic getting a modern upgrade and voiced dialogues too but man I prefer the original but the rebirth is.. ok I guess if you like thinking really hard about some confusing ass shit lol. Also this Rebirth just feels like a version of the game where the fans get a happier ending but I loved the original because of the harder moments and at the end of the game it just left you wanting more! Lol most ppl angry about the ending, but for me its perfect reimagining and explanation for how mentally ill cloud is, i still go with the theory why cloud loved aerith is because he thinks he is zack, when tifa fix him later on he is different. Well if i was cloud i'll choose tifa over aerith cuz she is so kind and patient and brave to deal with mentally ill strong guy that literally can kill you in a flash. Aerith didn't actually died on this timeline :'> i'm happy, The gang thought she died but actually its the Vision from OG they see where she died. She touch cloud giving her an okay look and she smile then she lie down herself pretend to be dead and let cloud deal with sephiroth and after that she "Merge" herself into life stream hence why she teleport zack or something into to cloud, now shes between timeline of Remake and rebirth where cloud can only see her thanks to mako poisoning. Also zack, aerith and cloud are the "Reunion." Together of em will fought sephiroth and i think Aerith will find way to merge timelines without destroying the world, while zack and cloud will fought sephiroth on those different timeline to stop him. Can't wait to part 3 :>

having played the original back in 97 the young me really didn't care for aerith. was never moved by her death. but remake and rebirth made me fall in love with her and man does the last chapter hurt. also, we are basically playing through the OG game with a kingdom hearts twist. the devs said that the remake trilogy syncs up with advent children so the main timeline/world won't have anything crazy happen in it. we might see glimpses of other timelines where aerith lives or maybe even one where sephiroth won and rules over the planet.

I haven't watched many of the FF game movies and have never played it. I have to say though, that FF7 Rebirth was good, like, REALLY REALLY GOOD. The graphics/animations, the story, the dialog - lots of great interactions between characters (even some cute downtime comments between them, as another commenter said). I was really surprised that the English language dialog and subtitles were properly done, instead of just being poorly translated; a lot of the jokes were as we'd actually say in English. Looking forward to the next part of this story!! Also, I was actually hoping that Tifa and Aerith 💝 would couple up. They were so cute together and the friendship and moments of fun seemed genuine. Cloud is a great hero but he was very broody and kind of a dick the whole game, not exactly bf material. Maybe he should just hook up with Sephy 😆🐧

As much as I wanted Aerith to survive and spent thousands of hours in the PSX version trying to resurrect her because there were many forum posts back then on how to resurrect her. I think that just as Cloud represses his past as a Shinra soldier and has flashbacks every time, he also represses Aerith's death, as you can see in the flashback when everyone is sitting sadly by the lake and only he sees Aerith and doesn't grieve. I think the Mideel incident in the livestream will explain everything and show us the missing parts here... Team Clerith Much love
