This video shows the making of a high resolution overworld map from Final Fantasy 4 based on SNES screen shots. Final Fantasy 4 is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) in 1991.
This project took approximately 150 hours to complete. The video seen here has been edited to remove much repetition.

When you thought the terrain was pretty much good at the beginning. Your attention to detail is insane! I could never be as detailed as you. That's why I'm no graphic artists lol.

I draw maps on paper and in Photo shop for my Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, I also do 3d terrain to enhance my players experience. So I know just how painstakingly tedious and time consuming this must have been, but you didn't cut a single corner. Every single detail got the full treatment. TJ, you are truly a big inspiration to all of us who try to create art in some kind of fashion or another. Keep up the amazing work, you rock.

The way you make all the smallest details and how you "sculpt" the mountains etc. is so underrated. When people look at the finished picture they'd never realize the effort that you put in to it. Amazing work man!

This was really amazing, and clearly a work of love. The details you put into the mountains, water, waterfalls is amazing. And the way you skinned the Tower of Babil was really creative.

wow great use on satellite aerial photos shots.. then redesign the coast with a bulk of statically piece tethered images then as you smudge and add contrast of light and shadows into one amazing coastline with alcoves ans small beaches... what a magnificent process and killer use of techniques ...stunning

+Ambrosia Thank you! Typically I actually use a more layers in a fewer files. With this project I found I needed to use a lot of different files with fewer layers in each because the map was so huge.
