I'll keep telling myself that this is a misunderstood masterpiece with an incredible plot, amazing art style, game play and absolutely legendary music. While a game is a game in the end, FF8 just transcends that with the music in particular. It's simply art.

Say whatcha want, but this game knows how to begin and end a story. This ending is by far the best from the PS1 FF games. Shame the story in the middle parts is a bit unfocused and doesn't quite measure up.

They actually did go to the wrong time warp, that's why Selphie ended up in Destiny Islands, Seifer in Twilight Town and Leon in Radiant Garden.

Eh, Rinoa, Irvine, and Quistis still missing in time.. It sucked when Kingdom Hearts stopped featuring random SE characters. They tried bring back Leon and the others in DLC in Kingdom Hearts III, but that was it.

This really reminds me about how Square Enix really was trying to perfect this scene for a long time from ff8 to ff9 to ff10, then they kinda just did a rehashed iffy version in ff15

Random fact: Nobuo Uematsu considered this version of the Final Fantasy theme his magnum opus. I can totally understand why he says that because the arrangement would go on to be used in Distant Worlds.

I used to always have Rinoa spamming Wishing star with Angelo on that last fight. I never knew Ultimecia could use Apocalypse. This game needs a true remake with new game plus option to defeat the everlasting time compression on the save.

Good job with the video - I used a similar method to beat Ultimecia...as in I snuck in Cerberus (if one of the picked was junctioned with him) at the VERY beginning (to set up the triple Aura casting) of the fight. I also used the Limit Breaks to no end (plus an occasional Megalixir during her final form). It sucked that you couldn't pull off the Lion Heart but the video more than makes up for that. Keep it up! :)

After all these years, I still don't get it. If Ultimecia passed on her powers and died peacefully, how exactly would her powers allow her to come back. Some say the plot of this game goes on in a loop BUT Ultimecia is seen succumbing right in front of Matron and Squall.

@@hardyjoe4278 edea said once a sorceress camo to transfer her power to edea. She said yes so she would not harm her children. But no one said it's this ultimecia in particular. Maybe it was an unltimicia from another time line. Her Main goal when she know she was dieing was to give her power to another sorceress so she were able to do time compression in squalls time. After all the weird time compression thing the heroes went back to there time were all the stuff is happened and cant be undone: - time compression unltimicia is dead - adell is dead - edea lost her power So in squalls time it's not possible to loop the Story. But hey that's not offical. It just kinda makes Sense to me. Anyways I like the idea of unltimicia being "dark" rinoa after squalls dead

@@IshidaSado I personally prefer 6, but I understand why someone would like this one more. Guess it depends on if you like monsters leveling with you and the magic system, which I personally am not very fond of tbh. I may still prefer 6 characters + Kefka as the villain, but some of the characters in 8 end up being more interesting than they seemed to me on disk 1. Yeah, this is a pretty good game :)

@@microondasletal Dont get me wrong I still LOVE 6 (especially Kefka) and I prefer Kefka over Ultimecia, but I love the "grindy-ness" of 8's battle system and it's story has that open-ended ambiguity that I cherish so much in a lot of my favorite movies/games.

When Ultimecia starts talking at the end of the final battle, her hit points have already reached 0. You just have to keep hitting her to move her script forward

She does not say anything after that. "Reflect on your...childhood...your sensation...your words...your emotions.......Time...it will not wait...no matter...how hard you hold on...it escapes you...And......." The Final Words are complete. Google it.

TheAwakerGames PSN ID: DarkJokerRulez I know, what I meant was as soon as she says “Reflect on your childhood” she is out of hit points. At that point, any attack causes her to say the next line of her script. She can still kill you during this time, so I normally just wack her until she is dead.

Anyone else notice how it looked like Rinoa just disregarded Quistis's warning because she loved Squall, then compressed time/space/dimensions to create a world where they could be together and everything was right with the world. I don't know how many people know this, but Laguna NEVER told Rain that he was leaving when last he left town, so that means he NEVER proposed (further evidence is when Squall witnesses Elone talking to Rain about it and She says they AREN'T together) So it's as if Rinoa just created a new world where everything was perfect and Laguna even got to propose. Also, did anyone notice that the Crystal theme was playing a divine tune as the ending sequence happens and they fly off toward the moon (of all things *heavy symbolism*). It's like some divine intervention took place to correct the entire timeline.....OR Ultimecia won using the guise of Rinoa and she's pulling the strings of this new timeline (remember they were flying toward the moon, which represents evil and is where the monsters come from)

There are SOOO many potential reasons for this, none of which are any more likely than the other. It could signify the loss of identity that he felt when he couldn't remember what Rinoa looked like (remember her face was always blocked out or distorted on this acid trip) It could also be symbolizing his final death (or rather his fall OUT of the timeline *he was, like in time-purgatory*) It could even be the emptiness he has felt his entire life taking hold of his very being right before his breaking point (as he had LITERALLY been wandering deeper into despair prior to the fever nightmare he witnessed here) The beauty of Final Fantasy 8 is, there are unlimited possibilities that fit a situation (or symbolic piece) and we don't need the story to flaunt itself or overcompensate for our stupidity by spelling things out for us. It is a piece of abstract art rendered into video game format. This is why so many people are drawn to this particular game and why it's a timeless gem. There is no "canon" for this game because it is a poem to be interpreted by an individual's own feelings. That is the essence of Final Fantasy 8.

At 41:13, why didn't they show Squall in the frame? In the next scene, it was shown that Rinoa was alone on the balcony with that 360 degree shot. Then the shooting star. Then she looked up and pointed up, /then/ he appeared. ;-; did he die? Did all of them survived except him? Is he now only a fragment of Rinoa's memories in which only she can see him?

Snake4175 ...yeah, that's wrong. Ultimecia =/= Rinoa. That's not cannon, nor is it a defensible stance. It's a fanfic, nothing more, just like the Squall=Dead theory: it's something that started out as a good idea, but eventually turned into "shuttup I like it that means it's true".
