A few more you could consider (Endwalker spoilers): 1. While the magus sisters originated in FFIV, adding them as a classic summon is a direct reference to X, the only game where they appear as summons. 2. The lore and plot behind summoning Primals seems heavily based on FFX, the only other game where they are religious protectors and necessitate “worship” to create. 3. Y’shtola has evolved to be very reminiscent of Lulu in respect to personality, temperament, physical presence…. Even changing her outfit as the game has progressed to a unique, overly-strapped leathery black mage gown. 4. There is a quest in Mor Dhona where someone references the iconic primal Valefor, though we haven’t seen it in game yet. there is also an unrelated flying monster named Valefor. 5. Tidus’s Caladbolg is a DRK weapon. 6. When Emet Selch and Elidibus die, they leave pyreflies.

I hope we do get a FFX-flavored patch someday. Thank you for this lovely vid. FFX was my introduction to the games.

There's a quest where you help the Doma children with finding treasure in Revenants Toll. A family of trouble making Lalafell use Valefors name as a distraction to get away after being caught trying to steal from them.

oh how i love ffx 10 hands down the most memorable game i've ever played with the best story. i actually learned to play the piano because of the song and became so mesmerized by it

Neat work once again, so glad to see some of the wiki stuff being covered here! Also, I'm pretty sure there's more references than just this, but some of them may be buried in quest dialogue or also lost in translation. Anyways can't wait to check out the FFXI stuff, you have a lot of work ahead of you, since many of the weaponskills for base combo attacks and job elements are references to many job designs from FFXI. Here's a freebee if you want one, the Machinist job has/or has had some of the ranged weapon skills (normally used by Corsairs/Rangers) in FFXI. In addition, their automaton combat style from FFXIV was inspired by the Puppetmaster job from FFXI, with the Rook Overdrive command being based on the Overdrive ability. Puppetmaster even uses the name Automaton Master/Automatonist in Japanese; which has also been called the Gadgeteer/Tinker in the Ivalice games, cementing the connection further.

Great job, I felt there are a lot of story concepts that can be taken from Final Fantasy 10 that are in Final Fantasy 14. For example, when we 1st encounter Y'shtola in the 1st. She mistaken our character with that of a Sineater because we are absorbing the light, which Y'shtola thinks we are a Sineater from the amount aether has been stored in our character's body. The scene is similar to Tidus' 1st encounter with Kimahri's ability to detect the unsent, which at the time, when I 1st play the game. I did not know that Tidus was already died until you play it the second time, you can see easter eggs that Tidus can be a fiend. At the end of Shadowbridgers, there is a Ronso, which can of resembles Kimahri before he lost his horn. At the end of Endwalker, when Tataru and Krille run down towards the ship reminds of both FF9 and FF-10-2 when Garnet is running towards Zidane, as well as Yuna running towards Tidus at the end of the game. In addition, if you take Sineater from ff14. There not that different from the Sinspawns from FF10. When creating our charters, we do have an option of creating an odd eye, so we do not have two of the same eyes. In FF10 Yuna had a blue eye and a green eye. My character Freyja has 1 pink eye and 1 yellow in reference to Garnet's Limit Break Trance. When I did that, my character does have a reference to Final Fantasy 10 of having an odd eye out. In addition, I will not doubt it, but I might meet up with a person who will create a Yuna character or a Tidus character in FF10. We do have the ability to create twins in FF14. Thank you for the video. I cannot wait for FF11 because the opening sequence of FF14 is the same sequence of FF11 when the game introduces us to Hydeline.

I've definitely shared your sentiment on how it's sad we don't have much in the way of FFX references with Alliance Raids or the like-I've felt it since they added the FanFest items. Even when we did get a major reference with Anima, he was just a dungeon boss... The game and world is amazing-which is why it's my favorite of the single-player FFs-so I hope it gets its time in the sun like FFIV has with Endwalker.

There's a few stormblood dungeons that drew from FFX in aethetics and glyphs. Some cloiser of trials vibes. Mainly Temple of the Fist and the Drowned City of Skalla. While spoilerly, if doing an update; in Dawntrail, some of the fight music, plays into that random enounter music intro.

If you consider that a lot of the reference to FFX are in the first, especially places, it isn't impossible that the first itself would be the place where FFX theme stuff would happen. But then, why would go back there is another matter

During the boss battle with Yojimbo in Kugane Castle, you can see an NPC in the background counting gil to offer him, the numbers he mentions are what you can offer Yojimbo in 10 to get him to join you for a lower price iirc

dude, the thunderplains building behind ramuh! that was an awesome discovery!! Also, i never associated Kan-e-senna dance to yuna, but now that you mentioned, they do seem similar. On another note, nirvana is an older weapon, from older final fantasy and besides, it doesnt even resemble in any way to ffx nirvana. Also shiva doesn't snap in ffxiv, she hits the ground with her heel. All the other references are awesome, specially thundersplain building!! never even noticed that!!!

"Machina" is a latin word for Machine. It's a broad term that doesn't necessarily mean it's a Final Fantasy 10 reference since its not what Garleans call them, the machines Garleans use in XIV are known as "Magitek" which would be a FFVI reference.

You note it as a subtitle during the mention, but some extra context: It actually was a bit of a fan-theory that Yojimbo in FF10 was meant to be some variant of Gilgamesh, though it remained mostly in speculation of fan-theory because Gilgamesh usually isn't the type to hide his guise or go serious mode. FF14 and 15 both clearly have words on one or both of those naysaying points however as we see both a Greg willing to wear the mask of Yojimbo to make himself seem more serious, and a Gilgamesh who is far, far more brooding in FF15 content.

As FFX was my gateway into the series and my favorate that isn't XIV I hope a lot of love for this game, hoping we get a lot more rep for it as it seems to be the one with very little to show compared to others. Though as a quick mention that Valefor the Mob in the Labyrinth of the Ancients and a summon jokingly mentioned during the Doman quests in Mor Dona is a refrence to the summon of the same name starting in FFX. This is signifigant given the connection to Yuna the summon has.

Another link I've found is that the two Ronso rivals to Kimahri, when they come around and support your group, talk to Yuna. They tell her that because she's such an accomplished summoner, they'll build a big statue for her with a huge horn. Which, if you look at XIV Summoner-specific job gear, they all have a horn theme for the headgear.

FFX is my all time favorite FF game as well as one of my favorite games period. I absolutely love 14 but 10 is just.... a personal game. I'll always love it and replay it at least once a year.

Recently watching the DawnTrail trailer reminds me a lot of besaid island, and of course we now know that the new tribe quests are the pelupelu which is also from FF10, looking forward to seeing a lot more ff10 ref in dawntrail! and just a thought for future expansions, imagine if level 100 was the cap and we just got spheregrid system to continue to make our chracters stronger.

I would argue that the mini map is also from FFX. Although this type of minimap is standard in a lot of games today, I believe that FFX was the first in the franchise to use it with a directional arrow to represent your own position and movement on the map! I could be wrong but I don't remember any (FF) games prior to X using it.

One thing I noticed between Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 14 in reference to the voice actors referring to us in third person or the Warrior of Light. In Final Fantasy 10, Tidus is mentioned in third person, but never as Tidus. Yes, the subtitles mentioned us by name, just like Tidus if you keep his name in default. In addition, Final Fantasy 10 was the 1st Final Fantasy to use voice actors in the game, as well as, have a sequel, which could be the same as Heavenswards through Endwalker have 2 parts in the expansions.

Y'shtola's ShB attire is loosely based on Lulu's. Just a lot more tame.

I don’t know if this counts at all or maybe I’m just reading a little too into it. But at the end of Shadowbringers, there is a certain cutscene that plays when the heroes return from the depths just as the credits start to roll too. It is very reminiscent of the true ending of FFX-2 from the similar sounding music playing over the cutscene or a Hrothgar who is very much a clone of Kimhari but wearing clothes. Look it up, I’d ne interesting to see if others share their thoughts on this

There might be a FF10 reference to audio and cutscene playback. If anyone goes to Luca, you can purchase previous cutscenes and music playback from the game just like purchasing the Orchastra Rolls and watch video playback from going to one of the Inns in Eorzea. I am not sure, but FFX or FFX-2 might be the 1st of having new game + concept. I know in 10-2, you can replay the game and have the same weapons from the previous playback.

After we got the island... reminds me a bit to Besaid, I even more want Blitzball :)

FFX was my very first FF game so to see more references to it in FFXIV would be amazing. I’m hoping I’m 7.0 they go back to paying homage to old FF games in a new raid series much like the others. Would love a second round of omega with bosses from FF7, FF8, FF9, and FF10. Great way to give us Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja and Seymour as fights.

About Ixion, there is a fate in Elpis where you have to defeat mobs who look like Ixion, it's called "Drawing the Thunderstroke". That fate annoyed me for some reason, has probably to do with some Lala sacrifices in the Lochs.

I always the sixth umbral calamity, the great flood, was another reference to FFX, because X had a big flood in its history.

I agree, there isnt much of FFX in FFXIV.... yet. But what can they do? Blitzball!!! xD Jokes aside, the fight with Bismark reminds me a lot of the fight with sin, fling on the side trying to get on them and hit them in their weak spot. I dont know if its worth mentioning but in my opinion I think its a callback to that fight... I mean the Zanarkand/Amaurot reference is on the same surface level. They really missed an opportunity by not making Sin show up in a Shadowbringers dungeon as a Sin Eater Boss.

I think there's a missed opportunity of mentioning the Towers in Endwalker as referencing the fayth in FFX. Spoilers below, if you haven't completed Endwalker... Much like in FFX, how the fayth were embedded in stone to give the power to summon the aeons, each tower in Endwalker hosts the bodies of those kidnapped (e.g. Amalj'aa, Arkosodara, Garleans) in order to summon the Lunar Primals. Of course, a big difference is that in FFX, the fayth voluntarily sacrificed themselves, which is not the case in FFXIV.

Still waiting for a FFX crossover raid where we fight Seymour 12 times.

Male DarkKnights sling their weapon on their shoulder like Auron. All ff14 combat poses are reminiscent of older titles. Missed the magus sisters, which in ff10, was a callback to the boss in ff4 and Sophia, which is inspired by Yunalesca, but a callback to FF6s Goddess. Finally, Valefor is a demon that you fight in labyrinth of the ancients. I do hope we get a Sin themed raid one day in FF14.

maybe I'm wrong but I really thought the lore in FFXIV of religion banning technology after the fourth calamity was based off X when in that world religion banned technology thinking Sin was born from the excesses reliant and technology

I am surprised one thing that was definitely missed from FF10 reference, and that is Lyne's victory greeting. If you look at her hand gesture. You will know that it is the BLITZBALL victory sign, as well as the Yevon prayer hand gesture.
