Please god remake the older guides. You are all i have! So many of the bgwikis i use for gear but they dont really teach you what you are doing with the job!

I'd love the old guides updated and i agree with the some bgwiki guides just make assumptions on things that not everyone has or they should know it by default.

The FFXIAH guides get updated pretty frequently depending on the job, including low-mid-high and bis gear sets for different Weapon Skills, Job Abilities, TP/DT/MDT/M.Eva/HybridDT sets etc... As well as the fundamentals. Rua's Guides are great but it takes a lot of time for him to make new job guides and a lot can change by the time he's able to update older guides, especially because of the introduction of Odyssey an the reletively recent job updates SE has been dropping that range from small changes to changes that can fundamentally change how a job is played in the meta. Bgwiki guides can be good but imo the FFXIAH guides are superior, especially since it's a forum and usually have a lot of discussions after changes as well as people who'll answer your questions that may not be fully explored in guides .

Blows my mind that people play a game that requires more time outside of it doing extensive study and research on how to play it rather than actually playing the game itself and learning how it works through the content of the game.
@darkaero
@darkaero 2 жыл бұрын
@@Rykojames It's a 20 year old game lol. The fact it still has the amount of players it does, with a lot of the player base being people who started playing over 10-15 years ago and still have things to do is a testament to the development team and the game design as a whole. Is it out dated compared to modern MMOs? Of course. But part of the appeal has always been the fact the game doesn't hold your hand and the biggest accomplishments for your character take a pretty hefty time investment to complete which, imo, makes it much more satisfying when you finally get that item you've been building towards or finish that content with a group you've been doing it with that seemed insurmountable when you first tried it. FFXI has always had a steep learning curve for new players, and most end game content even back in RoZ, CoP, ToAU required a decent amount of research, reading forum guides and discussions, trial and error, and/or having people in your group who had already done it before teaching and leading the group through the content which eventually ended up having a whole new "generation" of players that went on to teach the next batch of players how to do the content. Nowadays unless you're brand new to the game or have come back to it after a few years you don't NEED to spend more time researching how to play than you spend playing the game unless you're starting a new job you're unfamiliar with and you're looking up the most optimal way to play it in certain situations or finding how to get upgrades for whatever sets you're building. That being said you're almost always going to be able to easily find someone in game who'd be willing to take time out of their day to explain something to you if you have questions and people in your groups who will happily to explain what needs to happen in order to clear whatever content you're doing, even if it's not coming from an altruistic place but simply because it's in their best interest that everyone knows what they're doing so they can get the content done themselves.

@@darkaero I get it.. I played back in the early 2000s. From my point of view accomplishing anything in this game was never satisfying because once you figure out the patterns of whatever your doing it ceases to be a challenge due to the fact that you are competing against AI enemies. Once you know what to do you just do it and it turns into another grind. While there is a certain element of satisfaction in figuring out a puzzle… assuming you intentionally avoid reading strategy posts from people who’ve already done it. The mental reward for figuring out the puzzle is massively under balanced by the 100k hours spent building up to being capable of participation in anything that requires more thought than targeting something and hitting the attack button. Like.. it was cool to kill Kirin for the first time back when I played.. but it only took us 2 tries.. we realized we couldn’t straight tank it so we decided to run it around in circles while rangers, black mages and summoners damaged it. Every time we did it after that 2nd fight it was painfully boring and we had to do it dozens of times to get everyone the drops off of it. At the time that was the pinnacle of the game (outside of dynamis lord maybe?) and the cost of getting the satisfaction of figuring out that “puzzle” was 9 months of playing 10 hours a day clicking attack and pressing the weapon skill button on crabs or whatever over and over and over and over again. Solving puzzles is fun for some people.. I prefer the dynamic challenge of playing against human opponents that can think and act unpredictably. When the players generate the challenge everything is rewarding including the grind for self improvement. And you don’t need constant updates in content either. Basketball for example hasn’t had a content update in like 100 years and the people who play it enjoy it every time. FFXI just requires way too much for way too little even if your idea of fun is the puzzle element of figuring out how to beat the bosses. And given that the game itself gives you so little in terms of instructions or guidance it forces you to collaborate with other players outside of the game. Especially back when I played.. I’m sure there’s more tutorials and what not now. I don’t really call it hand holding when literally your tutorial was the opening cut scene was 3 options to kill monsters, shop, and something else.. to which the advice you get to killing monsters was “go outside and kill something”. Nothing was really difficult to figure out as far as battle mechanics went.. I don’t even really know what I think I’d recommend as far as “hand holding” beyond a straight up walk through on where to go and what to do for missions/quests… that’s a little over board.. But as things were at the time.. without 3rd party help a person with no exposure to the game wouldn’t even be able to get rank 5 in their home nation if their life depended on it. Not to mention the extent of “puzzle” element in this game is.. go in fight.. find out what abilities an enemy uses.. find out what abilities/elements/whatever it’s weak or at least susceptible to.. Create a group set up that is strong in those areas… exploit its weakness and have the appropriate counter measures for whatever abilities it’s using. That’s incredibly one dimensional and basic in my opinion given that it applies to literally every aspect of the game. Might as well save time and look up what it does from the reports of people who’ve already done it and skip the testing phase. But at that point it’s no longer even a puzzle element and your just watching pixels on your screen move around while executing a pattern for the sake of getting pixels on your screen. Now it’s just a Pokémon item collection game. Square shoulda just owned the fact that there game requires massive amounts of out of game collaborations to figure anything out and implemented it into the game itself.. like instead of making us go on forums they could have had a “library zone” or “college zone” where players could leave battle strategies and mission/quest guides so that anyone struggling with something could go there and looks up info or leave requests. Basically an in game message board in a place where all players could go and also discuss things in real time as well instead of having to do all of it 3rd party… it would have created an in game resource for players who didn’t have connections to linkshell forums and voice chat channels that no one outside of whatever group had access to. Instead id wager ffxi-AH and the Wikis or allahkazam/killing ifrit back in the day got more traffic from the player base then the actual game itself. That would have at least created a way for them avoid having the game itself “hold your hand” while simultaneously providing a resource for players who aren’t interested in never ending trial and error.

A Shikikoyo homie, I see! I really appreciate your ability to look into every aspect of a job's potential, rather than its strongest suit. Spending so much time with SAM over the years made me realize all the things it can do beyond spamming Fudo (although it's ironic how that's what it does best sometimes), and it's satisfying to see those thoughts echoed in your guide.

Nicely done. Two things tho :P - All gear skillchain bonus or damage goes under skillchain bonus +50% cap. Mpaca's cap too. - I think your description of Hybrid WSs in this video was kinda misleading. You haven't said anything about them needing physical attack and accuracy. Further calling them elemental WS and compering to something like Trueflight is confusing.

I can't wait to see the updated job guides!! I personally want to see RDM's but all your guides are awesome! A random (not really pertinent to this video but something i've wanted to ask.) Is it possible for a SCH to perform acceptable magic damage in endgame? I know you respect it for its' healing but I was wondering if its' damage was there too.
@SplitFinn
@SplitFinn 2 жыл бұрын
SCH is essential for others best magic damage in endgame. Storm II and Skillchain generation is way too strong to pass up. SCH's damage itself is not meant for instant results, like chunks of NM HP flying off. It's damage is meant to be over time in the form of Helix spells.

Really dig your videos, even for the jobs I don't play it's very neat to learn and be aware of more aspects of them all. Question though, you brought up how Aeonics are much easier to obtain low-man now, I'm pretty confident my friends and I can do everything up to pre-Warder of Courage but that point and the high tier Reisenjema stuff still kinda intimidate me. Do you think you'd ever do a guide for low manning some of the tougher Escha/Reisenjema NMs (or know of any good ones to recommend)?

@mattlaw3804
@mattlaw3804 2 жыл бұрын
Can you expound on that? My group is working on getting everything to V15 at the moment, almost done with tier 2, and while we've been able to do the tp drain methods with smn/blu/bst, 3 of us have SAM available, with it being my best DPS option (I tend to tank or support, lol)
@PaladinHideka
@PaladinHideka 2 жыл бұрын
@@mattlaw3804 yea sure - we used SAM RDM COR BRD SMN BST (BLU Can work better than bst or smn imo), The bard Hits elegy under nitro, and gets a nitro Reset from WC mid fight for 100% Elegy up time. RDM Can stick slow on him with some effort, and earth shot gives another 10% Slow, which is a whopping 114% Slow - this takes him from about a 3~4 Second attack to a 6~8 second attack, which if your sam has 5/5 Third eye merits - that is a 25 second Recast on Third eye- or 3-4 attacks that get in per anticipation. Toss in a maxed out paralyze II, which is absolutely absurdly strong - at 50% or more chance to stop an attack, and your sam is only getting hit 0~2 times per third eye, which results in it almost never getting consumed. i also changed up the sam's lua to put him into a full Counter/zanshin hybrid set up to give him a 70~75% Chance to counter if third eye is down - so if third eye is down, he counters almost everything, and if third eye is up hes in full dps mode. SMN and bst just Alternate TP Deletion skills, and RDM looks pretty. on V20, have the RDM Specifically spamming spells to be in 2nd place, and he can easily hold the add, as they really are only doing debuffing since nobody is really taking any damage

I have a hypothetical question for you. If there was a job (I’m going to call it Crystal Brave as a placeholder name) that was a combination of all the obtainable jobs currently in FFXI (a fusion of all combat roles) (no weapons or gear restrictions), how would you go about balancing it? What abilities, skills and spells would you take from each individual job to make up its moveset?

So I don't know if you'll answer these questions but I use Sam as Main and here we go. One is there a flow of job abilities that can be used to totally maximize one weapon skill chain. Basically without using a 1 hour for either defense or offense how many job abilities Can I stack or do they stack to do the maximum let's say two weapon skill up to four weapon skill skill chain. I know I can f u d o f u d o all day long. I know I can do f u d o k a s h a s h o h a and then f u d o again which seems to do pretty darn good damage. So my issue isn't the skills it's more like well let me explain. I use window for and a g e h a does not show up as a debuff. According to everything that I've read it will overwrite or can be overwritten so it I never know whether or not it actually sticks because the state said it's TP dependent upon success but I have no clue if it's a success. So when I start fighting a monster should I immediately open up with a geha hope it sticks then either go to a through three or four weapon skill skill chain and then reapply a g e h a again. That's one of the questions that I've had also the k o t t e n- ittai is great but I've noticed that it has a very small window to actually activate the weapon skill if you take too long it disappears. Is this something that you would save to use near the end of a monster because it sure seems like when it gets down to 10% on some of these items they just turn into complete buttheads and are hard to kill or would you use this at the beginning with 3,000 TP with a meditation build and try to hammer it as hard and fast as you can after age has been placed. I have lots of questions I've been trying to figure out how to master this class now and I can kill stuff but I get the feeling that there's probably faster ways for me to kill stuff. I'll just stop there I don't know if you answer questions on here or not

I played SAM on and off for a very long time. In fact, it was my 2nd Lv.75 back in the old days. Ultimately, I just got tired of it. Compared to other DPS jobs, it quickly gets boring because it's so one-dimensional. Add that to the whiffing weapon skills and I finally just quit playing it. I enjoy DRK, WAR and COR much more.

The most OP job in the game. A little bit unbalanced in my opinion. It’s not the job itself that makes it unbalanced, but rather the equipment that it can use that makes it a bit over the top. Though, I must admit I haven’t played in a few years so the gear available for other jobs may have leveled that out now…
@SageAtoreis
@SageAtoreis 2 жыл бұрын
I would say most other DD jobs have better equipment now, especially tp set. Tatenashi is amazing for damage, but it's super fragile. Kendatsuba has good meva, but lacks PDT. Mpaca has PDT but lacks high MEVA. Now other DD jobs (beside DRG) can either wear Malignance or Sakpata and laugh at most tp moves and debuffs coming your way, while sacrificing little or none DPS. SAM only complex option like that is really wearing path B Nyame set for TP, which doesn't synergies with SAM at all (Path B DA blocks zanhasso and has no store tp)
