Everyone needs a space of their own, even in an MMO.
Final Fantasy 14 is no different. I spent a long time trying to get my hands on a plot of land. But now that I finally got one, I realise I knew very little about the process. So I am here to share all that information so you can get a house quick and know exactly how to claim and keep your box of shame.

It’s frustrating that there isn’t enough player housing for everyone, we all pay the same subscription fee.

It's extremely frustrating, at least now it's easier to get a house. Not that, that makes things better. But at least it's doable now

The housing is a problem. To put it in real life perspective. It would be a city the size of Chicago only having 9k houses.

@@lisamueller7026 if possible, the quickest solution would be to just add more instances to the already there housing areas. Not sure what that would do to the servers. But It is in need of more space

@@DyingLegacy or create more neighborhoods. There are endless possibilities for Lunar housing, Interstellar Housing, housing near Crystarium, housing near Ole Sharlyan. A district that resembles Terncliff would also be amazing. Housing near the Ra Tika Greatwood like a rain forest would be amazing. So much potential and then everyone would be able to own a house. Even logistically it b.c would make sense.

The problem with housing is that thanks to residential areas always needing data reserved for it, it requires a lot of server space. Apartments are the compromise to housing since it only uses data when it loads.

That's about the way of it, and most of us prefer the idea of neighbours, rather then instances. So there's always gonna be an issue in that regard

Thanks for the super easy to understand vid! Dumb question: is there any difference when purchasing it as a guild house? Does the leader of the FC have to do it? Me and my friend have a tiny FC and are working our way to getting a house! Thanks!

From what I xan gather. Not first hand experience mind you. The guild leader does nor have to buy it. Just a member of the guild.

"1st Step Choosing a Locale", I wish. Step 1 is hoping a house auto demolishes and figuring out where the bidding war will happen. This last period there were 4 houses available and as of now only 1 has opened up for this next cycle.

I used to just go through every single ward and just used the map to see what was available. It's a waiting game. Which I know is a pain

You need to buy a scroll from a vendor that lets you do so... I can't for the life of me remember the name. In your housing district, there will be a vendor that sells housing items, that's the place to look. It'll be on your map

If you demolish your house, you get nothing back. If your house gets demolished due to the the auto timer, you will be able to recover most of your items from an npc, and 80% of the gil you paid for the house.

The housing quests do not spawn for me, I am level 90 and a second serpent lieutenant. What am I missing?

Are you far enough in the msq? and have you gone to the housing district yet? The housing quests are for unlocking the ability to teleport from the main cities aetherite. You don't need them to get there, initially, you can walk in or take the transport nps in the main cities

Are the apartments actually worth it, or would I be better off getting a room in my FC's house? Also I'm not level 50 yet so I guess I can't get one yet.

You can get both. You're own apartment would be better, as that's permanent. If you leave the guild or something happens the house, your room would be gone

Here is the pros and cons of having an apartment vs a private chamber. An apartment is 500,000 Gil that requires a lieutenant rank in a grand company, but you get to keep it. A private chamber is 300,000 Gil but if you are AFK too long, the company disbands, or you are kicked out, you lose the chamber.

You can still buy a house, a house per person, and a house per fc

There's no easy answer. Best bet is selling on the market board. So use your gathering or crafting. Or find items to sell people want, but aren't readily available

How do you know that a ward has a plot for sale?

You can go to the housing district entrance and look at each ward and it's list of housing. Any housing with a price next to it and not a persons name, is for sale

If your FC house gets a demolish notification, your FC shouldn’t have a house. I feel that’s a waste of an FC house that could be used by bigger FCs. That’s just my take.

I wouldn't call that a take, no one would disagree with that. If it gets to the point where none of your members enters an fc house in 45 days. You don't have have an FC.

So.... - Need to spend millions to get something decent - 450k to get a permit, loads of gil to decorate, etc - Risk of losing it all, and you'll have to start over - And even if you have the money, it can take ages to get a house due to that absolutely retarded lottery system And I didn't hear you mention any benfits to it. Is there any at all? Thanks for the video, but when it comes to housing, it seems to simply be a waste of gil and time.

The benefit is having neighbours. And more area to use. That's it. Housing is a mess realistically, and it's not something a single player needs. A guild house is useful, but for personal use, It's just a luxury.

It actually makes sense if you think about. When this game and other games with similar housing system first started, people with no lives and or people in 3rd world countries with more time then money bought all the land. Sometimes thanks to bots, glitches and crafting bought 10, 20, 30 houses and sat on it. There was empty land with nothing on it. Then the websites appeared where people in rich countries were paying real money, 100s to 1000s of real dollars for it because of the limited houses. Now other games have fixed this issue by making more land to own but eventually what happens when you make more housing is that you end up with a lot of empty plots or maybe someone wants to troll and buy all the plots in a ward and leave it all empty or only have 1 house and everything else empty and no one else can get land there. Eventually the whole system collapses and unique wards and neighborhoods disappear. Since you don't know the benefits of having homes in FF14, I suggest you play more, socialize with other players more and see where it takes you.

@@DyingLegacy I could of gone into detail about how it destroys a sector of the marketplace people sell stuff on if housing collapses and how that will make crafting have less payoffs. And few others things but I think I got the point across. The game has really become very causal since Vanilla FF14 1.0 slowly has become a walking simulator as far as the MSQ and the normal and hard dungeons that at launch were tricky but now are a breeze. It's a double edge sword because while the game makes it very accessible, it also encourages a bad attitude towards anything the requires a little of grit and hard work i.e. housing. You got people with less then a week playing the game that will join a FC to get a private room at the FC house for 300k and act towards the FC like they are a bunch of elitists if they don't return their money as soon as they purchase it and even get upset that it costs 300k. It's not a lot. ARR gives you over 1 mil just doing MSQ. In my FC as long as you stay with the FC for the long haul (A few months at least) we return that 300k back to active members. To see if they are serious about staying in the FC. Literally saying hello in FC chat or maybe answering a question or helping a sprout for 5 min. is being active in our book. A least once a month, it's a very low bar I think. We just don't want 512 members with 4 people that talk to each other and everyone else is just there for a cheap room and doesn't even acknowledges you are there or worst never plays the game in 6 months and taking up a slot. Most FCs are like that as well.

@@namenotfound8747 I bought my apartment half way through ARR just from quest money. Regarding the FC's every game is like that. If you aren't active of contributing, you are out. But Dawntrail is suppose to see a u-turn on content difficulty, which will be eye opening for newer players. And you are completly right, housing contributes so much to the marketplace. And that goes for almost every game with a housing system. Instanced or physical. If you could just pick up a house in ff14 when ever you felt like it. It wouldn't be rewarding, and neighbourhoods would be uncreative shells half the time.

Cringe that it's timed so I can't enter it when it's about to run out because there are loads of plots with no one betting on them but I can't buy them because they run out in a few days

@@DyingLegacy So me and my friends went to Kugane to look for plots. We found some however we can't put any bids on as it's gone through that phase. But it also states that there are no others bidding for the plot. So now we have to wait ages to get it.

@@dilbob454 That's because it's server wide. If it was for individual plots it would be chaos. And when there was no lotto, it was chaos and you'd never get a house because people would outside it, with an auto clicker and buy up every plot immediately. Make sure you and your friends don't bid on the same place as only one of you can get it. But on the other hand, I do understand the frustration, but I just noted it, and came back when the bidding phase started.
