I have been using Reshade since the early days of Fallout 3.
It's very rare that when I play a game for long amounts of time, that I don't end up using an ENB (Reshade) to improve the visuals.
FFXIV is not an exception, I did use GShade like everyone else, but as soon as the drama started, I noped out and moved straight to Reshade, however I was struck with weird job gauge issues and such with FF14's UI.
So I am going to show you how I remedied it.
By showing you how to install Reshade, the addon to improve the UI and fix the glitching, and also show you the Preset I put together and use the most of the time.

Pro-tip: if you follow these instructions to the letter, and your screen is hilariously, unplayably dark, go to System Configuration -> Display Settings, and scroll down to see what your Gamma is. If it's 50, there's your problem. Set it lower, or higher, than 50, and your golden. Enjoy!

What if a downloadable reshade preset puts what looks like multiple layers of static on top of your screen? I'm a bit new to this and have this issue with a lot of presets I've tried

@@Dom-fx7pqI think it the Sharpening, and the Denoise is supposed to get rid of that but i dont have that particular one, i used KNearestNeighbor and turned the 'Noise level' slider all the way down to .010 and the helped a bit without it looking so blurry from it

Reshade is on 5.9.2 as of this comment and the UI add-on will not work till updated to Reshads current version for anyone wandering! this is the error that will pop up in logs "some add-ons were not loaded because this build of reshade has only limited add-on functionality" to work around this you can find a Reshade 5.8.0 and use that version, or wait till the add-on is updated.

Dude, two thumbs up! I looked at a few others and this is the only video that is straight forward and actually covers the setup steps. A huge thanks!! I did have to disable AMD FidelityFX and SMAA because it made everything super dark but otherwise the game looks great. Thank you again!

You can enable them again, and instead go to your in game gamma setting. And put it to 49, or 51. For some reason it causes everything to go super dark if on 50 while using reshade effects

Any intention on realasing a downloadable version of this preset? I think it looks fantastic but I'm having an issue where a few options are missing, such as SmarDenoise and qMXAO. Just curious, love the content! You have an amazing voice and a friendly personality that oozes through every video. Keep up the good work!

tried to do this twice and had to reinstall TWICE did steps EXACTLY AS SHOWN. do you know how long it takes to install this game dude oh my god.

If everything was exact it'd work. The only thing that has changed is the addon, and for that it's a case of just click the redirect link in the link I had given. Where they give instructions on how to use the new add on.

Apologies in advance for the necropost, but I put reshade installer through virustotal and it flagged it as malicious. It's laced with a trojan apparently though it might be a false positive. I was wondering if you had anymore information on this topic.

@kitt8132 you used the wrong ffxiv exe is probably what happened. Manually search for it rather than using the list. I have done it myself a few times. So technically it's not installed

@@kitt8132 Then you haven't installed it properly. Even if it was done wrong. If it was the right exe file, you'd still get the loading banner at the top. Unless you are playing in dx9. Best thing to do is to uninstall, and reinstall it.

I went to download the zip file, but when it extracted there was only a Read Me file, no Toggler. Any ideas?

Everything looks great with the presets until it’s day time and for some reason the sun is more blinding than on the First. Any idea what is causing this?

Bloom is set to high, drop it now a notch

Thanks, I tried fiddling with bloom but no difference. So I just started over and did every step one by one in the day time when it’s noticeable. Turns out it was the last step of ambient light which causes the sunlight to seem insanely bright so for now I’ll leave that off and everything still looks cooler

I'm having an issue where I can't access the menu for Reshade. I have a wireless, condensed keyboard so I'm not sure if it's keys just don't function quite the same- is there an alternative key to the "home" one to pull up the menu? Edit; After a lot of pressing random buttons together I managed to find a combo that worked (probably had home attached to it behind holding the key and Fn) All my troubles aside, your tutorial was great! I couldnt find any visual detailed guided on how to make sure everything was working as intended so super appreciated thank you!

this is a really helpful (and funny) guide! but quite a lot has changed with this now and it might be worth making an updated version also, the guide to building/remaking your shader is useful but you could maybe link to the download for the old gshade shaders pack? since there's so many to choose from, and they were built for FF (though i get why you wouldn't want to do that)

Great tutorial, thanks so much! One thing, though. The AO shaders all seem to cause some visual issues on the character model itself. The polygons/normals on the arms, legs, neck, etc have zero blending, so there's a harsh separation in the shading that makes it all look blocky and polygonal. Any advice for fixing this? Or just an issue where I'll have to also bring in texture mods?

Instead use a different mxao, such as iMMERSE MXAO, which I now use, as i started to get the polygon style shading, iMMERSE blended much better for me

You're not the first to say that. However that's not a necessary one, it's a just incase, some people seem to get it with the install, others don't

Reinstall reshade should be your first action, if that doesn't work uninstall. If that doesn't work then reshade wasn't the issue and you may have to Reinstall ff14, not launching is oddly a common bug for the game itself

Unfortunately there's no solution to that, the addon for the ui does help with it. But if you go insane with bloom, the chat bubbles will turn into suns

hello! thanks for this amazing video. there is just a problem that i want to ask, some of the UI including the text bubbles and the bubbles like 'Do you want to go into the room", i can change to size of these after the mod is installed, because all the ui has shrunk, so i increased the size of the ui, but the text bubbles don't work, do you know a solution to this? thanks!

That's very new. Reshade does not have anything to do with the UI. It sounds like you have changed the resolution as well as the ui size. Check your ui resolution, as that sets ui size as well

Very nice tutorial but got to say I laughed at 3:48 that was a terrible example...the original looked 10 times better. Shadows and lighting were removed, the gold surfaces looked dull and washed and you just made everything glow bright turquoise. xD

That's because I had the filters off and wrnt through them one by one, so you'd see how everything changed and knew not to panic 😂

I downloaded all the settings, like you suggested, and most of the options that are visible in your reshade are not present in mine.

Reshade has gone through many updates, just type into the search bar some of the settings main name, and choose the one that looks the nicest to you

Hey! It seems to be just me, but whenever I use the MXAO setting all the characters faces have very sharp shading on them that makes it look blocky and not smoothed at all. Is there any way to fix this?

You can mess with the mxao settings, or choose a different mxao, they all do the same thing differently, and can have different effects based on your machine. I have moved to a different mxao myself since I made this video. Give it a try and choose the one you prefer

So everything in this vid was great my only isssue though with this is I didn't see the addon for the jobgage on the github but it did have the ini file. do you know where I can find the addon file? or could you share it?

It is there. Click the blue link that says Normal FFXIV config. Reshade has been updated a lot since then, and so has the ui fix.

Reshades gone through a few updates, and because of that the addon has as well. When going to download the addon file, read through the read-me and the download page itself as a few things have changed

Black screen in game has nothing to do with no add on. When on the download screen, click the only option in the middle of the screen and read through the page. Reshade has gone through some updates since this video and so has the add on, so add on has a few extra steps there.

Used Gshade last time i played, heard about issues with it. Trying to move to Reshade, Can't find game exe when I do and manually select it it "completes" its install but the program doesn't show up anywhere on my pc for me. not sure if i'm doing anything wrong, pretty sure i followed closely as far as install goes :c

Move it from your downloads. It doesn't install, it installs to the game folder.

SMAA makes the fonts on quest dialog very blurry. And and I can't seem to find all the same options you have wahhh

There is a search bar, type the names in there, but yeah SMAA can blurry a few aspects, that the other effects correct

i know i'm a little late here, but it seems no matter what i do, i cannot get this to show up in my Add-ons. i have the correct installer with the add-on support, but it just doesn't appear for me.

The add on has changed a little, when you go to git-hub, a follow the links through there to the new location for the addon, it has instructions on how to use it there. See if there are anything new there.

That's why a lot of people just use reshade instead. As it tends to not break compared to the nvidia filter

You didn't get any? You should of gotten them all except denoise and and my specific mxao. Of which you don't need denoise to begin with, and any mxao will do, as that's down to user preference.

I followed this guide perfectly, twice, I even unisntalled and reinstalled reshade, the "Reshade effects Shader Toggler" was missing, and I also had absolutely zero shaders to choose from in the next step

Read through the comments. Reshades been updated a lot since a year ago. To get the add on, you need to click on the link in the link now, to get to the updated add on.

You may need to manually search for it

So I'm not sure why and I can't seem to figure it out no matter how much I look but when MXAO is enabled parts of my character are shaded very polygonal is there any way I can smooth that out? I'd like to ask anyone for assistance on this matter thank you

Use quint mxao instead, it's a lot smoother, as I have since moved to that one myself for the same reason

what if you dont have dx11 at 1:23? the option to choose it doesn't show for me

Hey Legacy.... if your still checking replies to this video.. have a question for you. I recently did a full PC Rebuild and as such had to reinstall Reshade. Im currently useing Reshade 6.1.1 and trying to use it in FFXIV. I downloaded it, installed it correctly, and chose the correct DX10/11/12 option. When i go into the game, the Reshade overlay comes up, and i can see the 'default' Reshade preset. My problem comes into play when i try to see any of the OTHER presets that were installed with the installer. The ones that are in game/reshade-shaders/shaders. I can click that folder for the routing and see the 'folders' for all of the varioius presets, but when i select the various folders, they are blank. As if there is nothing in them. Any ideas? Phsyically, all the files are there on the drive, i can visually see them on file explorer, but for some reason Reshade refuses to see them? *quick edit* What i mean by all this is that i can navigate to all of the 'folders' such as - A Realm Reborn\game eshade-shaders\Shaders\AstrayFX in the overlay, but it shows blank as if nothing is 'in' the folder.

Go to your FFXIV Folder and check to see if the folders are present in the reshade folder. And that the folder is called Rehade presets. If not, you may need to reinstall reshade. That's a whole new problem to me. But it was something that used to happen with the ffxiv reshade everyone used to use. Had to make the folder ourselves. So check that the folder does exist. Even make a preset and save it to see where it goes.

Did you ever find a fix for this problem? I'm currently struggling with the same thing. Installed correctly, overlay shows up. But when looking for any of the other presets in game reshade doesn't "see" them.

@@T_for_Teru kinda. Turns out Reshade's installer was only installing all of the shader files, but not a single 'preset'. I ended up re-finding the website that hosts a lot of reshade presets for FFXIV and manually downloaded a few. Works fine now.

I'm getting a red error for "QUINT_Lightroom.fx. Error X4568 and it says PS_Lightroom and PS_DisplayStatistics input parameter 'huefactors' interpolation qualifiers do not match vertex shader ones" so the effect cannot be used and I think it's a really important one for a lot of my presets because many do not look even close to the preview pics. I have the latest version of ReShade from their site and I have the 2 month old (latest) versions of the Quint plugins. Not really sure how to fix it

Uninstall the whole lot. And make sure there are no files still in Final Fantasy after wards, and then reinstall the whole lot

@@DyingLegacy Thanks! I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, unfortunately the error persisted but downloading the qUINT files individually from his GitHub fixed it! Maybe the ones that auto-install in the launcher aren't up to date

@@DyingLegacy Thank you for the reply. The zip only has two files with the ReshadeEffectShaderToggler.ini and a shaders folder. Is that all I need to put in the FINAL FANTASY XIV Online\game folder? Sorry The shaders folder has 11 files but there is no .addon file.

You don't need SmartDnoise. Also, use the search bar to find the other settings, or there closest hit. Reshades updated a lot.

Just means you didn't fully download some effects, you can install it again without reinstalling, it to add any effects that might be missing

@@sicariodu9546 I don't think it's pc, there has been updates since, and I have changed pc in the last week, and I was missing some of the options a lot of people mentioned. I have a slightly tweaked version of the reshade that I'll add to my discord, but the missing options weren't necessary, the only one being Mxqao, you can use any mxqao not just the one I mentioned

@DyingLegacy I just found this and used it to get myself started with reshade again after restarting with a freshly installed everything on my laptop, and I'm finding that with 5.9.2 of reshade, several of the options in your tutorial given shader options don't exist on the listing, like qMXAO and SmartDenoise. Is there a known cause for this? :(

the ui add on link takes me to a link that doesnt have it. when i click the green button to download it only downloads a read me file. should i use the normal FFXIV config? if i download that there is only the configuration file and not an addon file. not sure what to do

You could also click the button in the centre of the screen on the addpn page, it takes you to the new add on page. Reshade has gone through many updates since I made this video

I used your setup and took a pretty big fps hit from about 60 in vanilla down to 30 with reshade on. Is that normal?

Taking a hit is normal. How much of a hit depends on your PC, and what kinda specs it has

Had to manually search for the game file and chose the dx11 application in the game folder and it threw errors trying to launch the game. Re-downloading the game now

Go back to the Reahade site, download the new release there. And during the setup process, it'll tell you it notices you're using reahade already, and gives you the options to reinstall, or keep your settings and such

Easiest thing to do is to uninstall and reinstall reshade, crashes aren't too common with it, so the only solutions I have seen are to change the display from from Fullscreen to borderless and vice versa

@@DyingLegacy I play through ff14 launcher. I believe it’s in the square Enix folder but when I click there, nothing appears. Oh well, I’ll just wait for the 7.0 graphic update lol.
