So we know who Naoki Yoshida is and who Masayoshi Soken is, but the English translation lead? That's Michael- Christopher Koji Fox who did the translation work for FF14. Oh, and that dope combat? Ryota Suzuki, who designed combat in Devil May Cry 5 and Devil's Dogma. This is basically SE Dream Team right here.

@@DontGiveUp_Skeleton IMO his localization (it can't be reduced to translation) is more impressive than the actual writing, and probably even more difficult. His work was so good that it's kind of taken for granted in FFXIV. He's legendary because not only did he successfully make all the characters and story seem 'real' but because he's also known for his contribution to the lore, story, and writing of lyrics for the main songs. He's not just a translator. Editing to emphasize that localization is literally rewriting for another audience. Every plot, every piece of humor, every personality and expressions of feelings. You literally rewrite from scratch but you have to fit it within the original work's framework so that it makes sense. That is really really hard to pull off. Compare XIV's localization to any previous FF games and you'll notice older games sound cheesy and childish. That is the power of localization.

Gameplay wil be the make or break for me. FF has always crafted good narratives and story but sometimes their gameplay lacks depth or you get times where everything is just "Mash one button to win"

Totally disagree. The music on the first two trailers was jaw-dropping but this trailer’s music sounded super cheesy and hokey. I think he’s the most overrated composer in all of video games. Maybe he suddenly starts writing only bangers in Shadowbringers, but up to Stormblood, most of what I’ve heard is mediocre and forgettable, 1 or 2 are actually hot, and quite a few are actively grating and irritating to listen to. Also really can’t stand the Prelude with how often the guy uses it. We get it, it’s that one song every Final Fantasy has a version of. Cool, write your homage and then move on. But no, he has to just throw it in the background of like half the shit he writes, and of course it’s in this trailer too. I have zero clue where his cult comes from.

FFXV had some really good concepts but fell through with literally all of them. In the case of XVI, the concepts are all here, they seem implemented into the actual game and not split into various media, and everything seems to have a solid foundation. This is going to be great

FFXV was such a disappointment. Hajime Tabata was basically selling us snake oil with that game. I have faith though in Yoshi P and his vision with FFXVI.

@@TheRetroGamerGuy I wouldn't blame Hajime Tabata, it's more on sqaure Enix's executives for anything else. Since they did essentially stretch Nomura thin, and then tell Tabata to make this game in 3 years, essentially.

@Keshuel the game’s combat Director is the same guy who did Devil May Cry 5. So we can kind of already envision what kind of action madness the game is going to play like with the little amount of gameplay and UI element we have seen so far.

the line up for FFXVI so far for the team, Yoshi P as producer, Hiroshi Takai as Director, story wise its going to be Kazutoyo Maehiro who will shape the story of FF 16 (he is the one making Heavensward Story and we know how good that is) Localization director is none other, Koji Fox composer Masayoshi Soken, the Ultimate gigachad Ryota suzuki as combat director (not from Square enix but he is hired to be the man for combat design) and his work to put it simply. he made DMC 5 Hiroshi Minagawa as Art director kazuya Takahashi, Character design.

This new FF16 trailer is Game of Thrones (rival kingdoms waging war against each other & political intrigue aplenty), Highlander (chosen individual warriors challenging each other & absorbing the power of fallen rivals) & Kaiju Battles (Summon vs Summon) all rolled up into one. Yoshi P is going to deliver us another FF masterpiece. This is the Square-Enix we all know & love, not those mediocre Live Service games nobody cares about but good old fashion high quality story-driven Single Player games like this & Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Dragon Quest 11, Triangle Strategy & Octopath Traveler as well as top tier MMORPGs like FF14.

@Helmut Salvatore If there's anything CBU3 is known for, is that their work always comes out incredibly polished for both console and PC so I wouldn't worry about it being unoptimized when it does release for PC later down the line.

I admit I'm not a big fan of SQEX's single-player entries, nor am I big on the DMC-style, but this was a pretty solid trailer. I'm at least more interested than I was when it was first announced.

The trailer gave me vibes from 2 different things. 1 would be Naruto and the concept of Jinchuriki (tailed beasts sealed inside humans) and the other is actually from Tales of Arise and the concept of the 5 lords fighting to become the Renan Sovereign. Really am interested to see just how amazing the story ends up being. I have full faith in Creative Business Unit 3 to pull off a masterpiece here.

i dont think all of them are lords in ff16, i think garuda shive and ramuh dont even have countries, all i got from the trailers, there is a curse that petrifact everything in it way and the crystals protecting the world from it, and now the crystals are weaken and that lead the war between all countries to steal the remaining crystals, i think that's the general story i got from the trailers

Writer is the one who wrote Heavensward expansion for FFXIV. HW was an amazing story, easily one of the best FF stories overall, right up there with FFVII, while Shadowbringers and Endwalker expansions vastly eclipsed even that, when it comes to emotional devastation & world building. That's why FFXIV is my favorite story in all of gaming. So much so that nothing's even close. Truly wish you'll find time to play it in the future, because almost to anyone who played it, FFXIV ends up becoming their favorite FF.

it looks all flashy and cool but we haven't seen anything of how the game works, if its even still an rpg gameplay wise. right now looks like a dmc / bayonetta ff game , hack and slash. I wanna see npcs, talking to people, the world map , how inventory works, if there is materia , how it works. What ur party is like, do they have an effect in combat ext.

They got the guys from Platinum to help with the combat, so we're looking at hack & slash there. They have said there will be party members, but they will be AI controlled (probably gonna be able to tweak 'em out a bit in menus, maybe gear them?). I'd also like to see how the exploration meat & potatoes combat goes, cause the trailer looks like boss fights. Still, looks hecka better than any FF of the past decade (not counting FF14).

@@GraymTrain again lots of speculation, we have no idea how the systems will work. i'm not a huge fan of them going for a full action based combat system. i thought the mix of the two worked well in ff7 remake. and also its not hard to look better than the last main number ff games is it.

That health bar screams fighting game and the UI screams action RPG , you can read like spells and potions and stuff like that so still RPG but more action based

Most likely. They're using the same VA studio that they're using for XIV. So expect to hear a lot of familiar voices from XIV. As a side note, the English dub is also the primary dub for the game, which will be a first for the franchise. So they really want to get the tone right and let the world know that this is 100% a western inspired setting.

I vaguely recall an alternate universe mentioned in FFXIV where the WoL summons a different Garuda who mentions that instead of enslaving the minds of their followers, they grant their gifts to worthy champions. This might be that same 'universe'. I might be wrong though but it would be rad to see something relating it back to that as an easter egg.

Good to see a lot of political intrigue in this one. The Creative Business Unit III team keep hitting the political stuff and the aftermath of your actions out of the park with the last four expansions on XIV. Since they're taking a year to polish it, it will very likely be a game of the year candidate for me. If they can nail continuity for 10 years with an online game, it will be interesting how they do with a single player game.

The wonderful thing with Final Fantasy is that every game is different, You might hate 13 and love 14, you might be like me and hate 2 and fucking hate 2 because FInal Fantasy 2 freaking sucks and anyone who says it isn't the worst in the series is a masochist... but 6 is peak FF so far if it ever gets a remake like the ff7 remake it'd be dope as hell.

Why change the name? CBU3 will forever be synonymous with Yoshi-P's team. if they were to change it then people would need to get used to the new name and they'd just end up calling it CBU3 anyways. Just look at McCree in Overwatch. They changed his name to Cassidy Cole, but everyone and their mom still call him McCree, and when you say Cassidy there's always a brief moment of "Who?"
