Making some final repairs and then testing out the backyard pick Gas Gas EC300 dirt bike! In the previous video we got this project running, and I am excited to see how it rides. It is a 300cc 2 stroke so it ought to be quick!

It's all I've ever used. Every single bike I've owned has had gear oil on the chain. Never had a single chain problem in 35+ years.
@markymarkvancity9 ай бұрын
different applications require different lube. for example you want a very sticky chain lube for road applications and for offroad you want a creamy non sticky lube that will release dirt and mud but also wont just wash off in rain or water. I have no doubt gear oil works but I also have no doubt there is products that are far superior. a can of motul lube is also only like 15$ cad and lasts for many many years.

Lotsa love to you guys! You always have fun and I enjoy cheering for your personal triumphs. On that note, how about taking hard times through to the end, you're almost there! It could just be running rich for your climate. It looked to be smoking a little too much at idle also. Check the jetting chart or pull the air filter out for one lap around town to see if it leans up. It would make great content and we don't want to say that Jake runs whenever he faces hard times. God bless y'all with the merriest Christmas! I love you guys! If it makes you feel any better I just ran my snowmobile for an hour today in town to purge my oil line after the oil injection started working again. It smoked like crazy til it cleared the lines out and started sucking the new oil I put in. I got it for $200 after sitting for many years. We're motor heads, this is what we do, you got this Bro! Gear oil is fairly widely recommended in manuals. The bike is definitely supposed to have grunt down low, its made for the woods and enduro stuff. Should still feel like a 2 stroke though, basically just a little bigger KDX. If you have a title or if it is easy to get one I would say 1800 is fair.

Good to see you guys 😃👍 i think if it was sucking air through the inlet rubber , I bet they increased the main jet size to compensate? With some carb adjustments it should be Good 👍 and maybe with some new plastics $1500 ?
@Aspired3299 ай бұрын
Not a main jet, never even hit 3/4 throttle where it would start using it.
@metaldog71289 ай бұрын
@@Aspired329 ? What?? usually people tinker with stuff and they don’t really know what to do and someone will tell them it’s running lean because it’s getting too much air and not enough fuel? So they stick a bigger main jet in it , because no one ever changes the idle jet, then the next thing they start messing with is the needle hight , and then start adjusting air screw then the idle adjuster …. Then it’s all down hill from that point and it starts getting neglected and then they sell it .
@jenniesgarage9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the theory, it's a good one. The jetting is on the leaner side though, based on what people usually run in these bikes and at my altitude. So I'm not sure what's going on.
@metaldog71289 ай бұрын
@@jenniesgarage I would find out what the standard setting should be , needle position, jet sizes, air screw position should be? and then compare them to what is currently in the carb and air screw settings and go from there?

It is a woods bike. They do tend to have more low rpm power and not rev very high, and the extra 50cc (over a 250), helps too. Now I see why they made it a 6 speed. It is running about as rich as a stock 2-stroke with a carb does. With those low rpm's, I would not be surprised if your ring gaps are still in spec. Hopefully, the plating is still good, and only spend as much as $150.00 for a new piston/rings, and rub it in to the 4-stroke guys. I had a cylinder plated (1997 KX250), in 1999 at US Chrome, and that was only $150.00 back then. That is still a nice bike IMO. You do good work, and both of you make a rational and entertaining vid. Very enjoyable. :)

Fun video, thank you! I didn't realize you were up this far, I thought you lived in Southern California. That park is just about an hour from my house.
@GNX1579 ай бұрын
The problem with heating up the carb boot and manipulating it is that you risk disturbing its seal with the airbox. Some bikes more than other have a real problem with dirt/sand infiltration at the boot/box interface (which won’t get caught by the filter). Go inside your airbox and remove the filter and look down in there at that area for any signs of dirt leaking in at that joint. Also consider getting a twin air power flow kit if they still make one for your bike. It’s a better filter with built in spark suppression and an aluminum filter frame that assures better contact and sealing between the filter base and the airbox. No quicker way to destroy your engine than a dirt leak at either of the two points I mentioned.

If the cracks were all the way though on that tube, yes, it would cause the bike to run more lean, but it would also make a visible fuel mess on the outside of the tube. No doubt that needed to be changed. Lots of vibration on such a short section of tubing.
@EarthSurferUSA9 ай бұрын
Chain care: Personally, for a standard chain (not a O-ring chain), I like the blast the heck out of the chain with a pressure washer until it is clean, (and full or water). Then I use WD-40 (Stands for "Water Displacement- 40th formula", to get all the water out of the chain. Wipe it as dry as you can, then add the chain lube, (I like the Maxima chain wax). That rear sprocket still looks really good. If that chain was rusty, it will probably stretch real fast. IMO, it would be best to put on a new chain now.
