Ever consider doing something Green Lantern from the silver age? Like Issue 127, which I believe is when Parallax could have entered Hal Jordan. Hal was trapped within the Power Battery. The issue was called Battleground OA. To me it's the best GL story of all time. But I guess I'm biased since it was the first comic book I ever owned. But honestly this is one great story.

Despite this storyline, Hal Jordan is the best Green Lantern ever! It was later revealed that this ancient entity named Parallax embodied Hal. But other than that, his personality and charisma makes him the most likeable GL but hey, thats just me.

I have to disagree. To me Hal always seemed the most bland JLA member. The other Lanterns always had more personality. Stewart was a serious dude, Gardner a rude man with a good heart and Kyle was the most carefree of them.

I started reading Green Lantern back in the day when Kyle was the Green Lantern and Hal was Parallax. Reading the stories over the years I got the sense that Hal wasn't fully evil just a man hurt and damaged, driven insane by the horrors he experienced. As I got older I had the extra income to buy the back issues or trades with Hal's stories from before the transformation into Parallax and those stories only re-enforced my previous assumptions. So, yes I believe in these issues, the Rebirth arc, and the first few issues from his run after his rebirth he did redeem himself.

I'm really surprised by this, all I've ever heard about Parallax Hal Jordan seems to end with Zero Hour, so I always thought he died in that story, as a villain. This being how that character died really puts a new outlook on it, and leaves his legacy as ambiguous rather than disgraced as how I thought it was, and how seemingly everyone reports it as? It seems people just leave this part out of his history, like they don't accept his redemption until GL: rebirth :/

I always felt it was more a case of a man finding his way back to sanity than someone redeeming themselves for evil. Let's face it, Batman isn't the most sane person on the planet either, he, of all people, should understand how easy it is to cross that line and how hard it is to find your way back.

@@dramahoude5 to be fair it's pointed out in other comics that Batman has a bit of a Bias towards Green Lantern (not just Hal, the Lanterns in general) he is a man without fear, Batman works only because of fear which means Hal can see him as he truly is: just a crazy man in an animal costume, which ticks of Batman's paranoia in all of the wrong ways, he's also not really one to talk because the tower of babel event happened ONLY because he couldn't trust his own teammates and made plans to KILL them of he had to (in spite of the fact that most of them are actually way better people than he is)

Sabre Lyon yes but he cannot bring the dead people to life so I don't consider him a hero. it's like a killer killed your son or daughter and he save you from let's say a fire. do you consider him a hero? I don't think so.

Hal's sacrifice has choked me up since the day I read it, and I've had the trade paperback for many, many years. It's a moment of true heroism, and handled with such beauty and heart. Hal isn't asking for forgiveness or absolution, just a chance to do the right thing. When he recites the Green Lantern oath as he eradicates the Sun-Eater, you can't help but feel the strength of the writing. A superb story that also shows a lot for Superman. Despite being de-powered without the sun, he's still Superman in all the ways that matter most. He stands tall, inspires people, and is willing to sacrifice himself for the world. Ultimately, it was Hal's story, and they couldn't have done it better.

I wrote a letter to Ron Mars after this issue, and his response to me on why he was doing this was that no one liked Hal anymore, and no one could write for him. We are just giving the fans what they want, a new Green Lantern a new start. From that moment on the emails got kind of.....not friendly.... lets just say.

It started out as a debate, me telling him that, that wasn't true, and that he's not being loyal to the GL fan base. His responce was, "what green lantern fan base, the fan base that didn't buy any GL comics since Englehart and Staton? Even Steve Englehart said it was too difficult to write for Hal." The debate got heated. Then he just stopped replying. I never purchaced a Ron Mars comic ever again. But I get it. He was under pressure from DC to make GL a popular comic. So I get it now. I just thought he abused his position because of his statement that said, Hal will never be a Green Lantern as long as I'm writing for GL, and how he destroyed everything awesome about GL, spit on the GL history, and wasn't great when it came down to continuity.

Ron Mars was never good with continuity and understanding who is more powerful than who. He has Venom kick the crap out of the Juggernaut, I mean Ron doesn't pay attention to other people's writing, and he doesn't seem to care. When he takes over a comic, it might as well be a brand new character, because he'll just make it his own and screw continuity and history.

To me, the entire run from the war of light, blackest night and brightest day and all the related stories like green Lantern core are what really got me back into comics. I stopped reading comics after world's collide DC crossover with I believe icon? Green Lantern was always my favorite DC story, I even have emerald twilight with the glow in the dark cover. So yes please any videos on gl would be amazing.

Hal Jordan was never evil. He just got to a point where he felt his heroism had to become far more extreme. When Hal was "evil" he actually spared a lot of people that he could've actually killed very easily. He even saved the lives of of few heroes who fought him and he defeated.

This story was certainly entertaining. I heard about Hal's turn to the dark side, but never paid it much attention. I don't read that many comics. Apparently the fan backlash made DC retcon it so Hal was actually possessed by Parallax. I honestly think that's why Parallax was the main villain in the Ryan Reynolds movie. They wanted him dead and out of the way so no one would think movie Hal would eventually turn evil. Not that it matters now. But I personally would love to see this story made into an animated movie. Even if it was a sequel to the Elseworld film JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS.

It's the fact that he sacrificed all that power all of his future, everything. To accept his mistakes and know that he could do nothing else and that the world no longer needed him. To sacrifice yourself for everyone else is what makes you a definitive hero in the end. Humans alre always changing but it's at the moment of your death where your personality was sealed. He died a hero and that's not something that can be argued.

Hal will always be the greatest green lantern for me and my emotions where running high when I was reading this then the oath at the end just left me speechless. In brights day and blackest night no evil shall escape Hal Jordans light 😢😢

That's what Geoff Johns thought as well. He said the Green Lantern mythos should be about overcoming fear instead of redemption and that to him there was no way for any hero to truly redeem himself after doing something like that, so he came up with the Parallax retcon where Hal was revealed to have been possessed and never consciously killed anyone.

Ever Greatest He was possessed by Parallax, who has the power to possess people. What kind of question is that? He did those things while possessed.

+Ever Greatest According to GL Rebirth, Parallax was trapped in the central battery and considering the power rings had a symbiotic link to the battery, Parallax used that link to tap into Hal's psyche, make him afraid(also giving him those white streaks) and ultimately take control of his actions during his rampage to Oa. Once Hal destroys the battery and drains its power, Parallax fully possesses him. Examples like this story where Hal is acting more like himself is described as "only a momentary glimpse of the real Hal Jordan's true heroic soul, shining through Parallax's influence".

I loved the whole Death of Superman, Reign of Supermen and Emerald Twilight events. It felt "epic", as much as mangled the word is now, with events that will resonate for years to come.

great story. loved the Geoff Johns run, it and the Adams & O Neil run is the only Green Lantern books I've read, so it's great to have some great highlights of other Green Lantern stories. well done

Green Lantern is my all time favorite comic series and in my personal opinion Hal Jordan is the best character and the most worthy of these quality stories he has. He wants to save the day but he gets in his own head. He is his own worst enemy. It makes him a good character. It makes him relatable. Every time you put up a Hal Jordan video I watch it immediately. Wether or not I own the comics. So yes. Please do his rebirth arc. Nothing quite like a good redemption story.

Yes Hal was a hero. The main idea of being a hero is selflessness and justice. Hal became a villian, theres no doubt about that. But in the end he gave himself up for the earth, regained the trust of his lantern friends, and stood for what was right in saving the kid! He died a hero, even if he would have been the last to think of it that way...
