Steven Seagal knows how to use the knife very well against the bad guy.
@canderoussnurd4265
@canderoussnurd4265 Жыл бұрын
No he doesn’t. The guy is a moron using X formation slashes you learn your first day in Kali while he allows himself to be thrown without slashing as he’s grabbed. The sidestep and slash at the beginning is decent and shows that he can land a good blow but in that regard, why not just “defang the snake” and slash the knife hand. It’s sitting right there and would end the fight in a single cut. Conversely, why not have the bad guy capable of doing something similar to segul as a way of him saying “not impressed dude. I can do that too. Better step up your game”. I’d say that’s a much more impressive guy to beat than a guy who just uses the basic X formation slash and tackles. He doesn’t even do a flicking slash or feint. Which sucks because this actor looks like a hard mother fucker who saw some serious combat. I could believe him as a grizzled mercenary. And speaking of, why is the retired cook with a pot belly who’s been out of combat for going on a decade even capable of handling an active mercenary vet? Skills don’t get better with lack of use. They degrade and lose their precision and accuracy. Hell you’d be amazed how much accurate you lose just in how well you land a basic jab after just a few months. Let alone a decade. Yet this scene would have you believe Case Rybeck was retired less than a week given how one sided this fight is.

When Segal enters a room the enemy suffers a -10 to all physical attributes and -5 to abilities per missed blow. Segal doesn’t like to have to do falls or take blows because he has too big an ego. I imagine the director had to beg Steven to allow even that one solid kick to the head. (Shit he even falls like a guy who isn’t used to it. Like he sees it as the biggest pain in the ass to have to do because he doesn’t want to have to get up again). Meanwhile the other actor learned how to ukemi roll backwards to get to his feet quick like a real fighter would and he’s middle aged for godsakes. Segals ego ruins his fight scenes more than anything because to make a good scene you have to take falls and hits. You have to look like you could lose and Segal can’t bear the thought of that.
@exbronco

@@canderoussnurd4265 The script had Seagal take that kick in the head just so they could move to meat cleaver part of the fight. the meat cleaver part was intended to show how awesome Seagal was. Why? Because Segal burned all his bridges in Hollywood and ended up being sued for sexual harassment by every actress he ever starred with. He’s impossible to work with. He beat the shit out of stunt men to the point where they got seriously injured because he refused to hold back and he spread so many lies about his personal history that he basically became a joke. The man knows his stuff when it comes to aikido but he’s a borderline sociopath in real life. Say what you will about Van Dam, but at least Van Dam relegated his self destructive behavior to himself and had the maturity to admit he fucked up his life.

if you have a martial art background, you can see the difference in forms and execution. Like doing a proper punch or kicks. Sometimes, you can see in movies especially the woman, how ackward their stances are. You can see steven seagal has trained in aikido because his form and execution is good and not ackward. Unlike other martial arts, they don't tense up their muscles but relax them. Probably, that's why his hands is 'relax' when he runs, flailing all over the place. In this fight scene, you can see how he uses the philosophy of aikido against an aggressor by barely touching him. Especially, when the aggressor has a knife. Only grabbing when he got the chance. My 2 cts.

He’s definitely got the moves. Segal knows his stuff when it comes to traditional Japanese arts. Hell he even has a knack for Filipino arts though he has a bad habit of “staying in the blender” rather than retreating or going in. (Which is really stupid to do if you’re a reverse grip guy like he seems to be.). The issue is that he goes way too hard on stuntmen and has way too big an ego to work with him. The man seems to believe that he’s untouchable. Hell he honestly believes that he can’t be taken down by a BJJ expert because he thinks he can just strike the back of the attackers head and kill him instantly. (Here’s a cheat sheet for ya. It won’t work). His art isn’t bad and he clearly knows how to fight but he isn’t nearly as untouchable as he thinks he is. He forgot the first lesson of any Japanese art. Humility.

@@canderoussnurd4265 Aikido looks great for the camera when you have a compliant "victim". But as martial arts go, it's near the lowest rung of the ladder. Better than knowing nothing at all, but ineffective against someone who knows what they're doing.

Forget Batman Forever, Seal should have done the theme song for this movie. Kicked In The Balls On The Train. This scene would have made the cut for the film clip. The fight scene from the first movie with Tommy Lee Jones would also have been a contender.
