Just reading through the comments and it's so nice to see that Joe replies to a lot of messages. You normally find as channels grow the owners get too busy to reply. Keep up the great community interaction. them exhausts look huge on the R8 by the way.

The MX5 is a good option for track days! Very low cost for the consumables (relatively) speaking. Wont set any lap records but great fun for a “low” cost. As far as I know we don’t have any track day insurance options here in Sweden :( Looking forward to next seasons trackdays. If you get and obd dongle and e.g race chrono pro you can do an overlay of speed etc on to the video

Great video Joe and explanations! For me I love driving on track but the overall costs put me off. I tend to lean towards track experiences, it is shorter than a full day which you had for most of the experiences I do, but I would say it is just as much fun to push a car to its limits. Great content and I didn't even know Audi had a new R8 so interested in your thoughts on that. I hope it still sounds good 👍

I recently had the good fortune of moving to Dubai and getting a M2 competition - I've done 10,000kms and 8,000 have been on a track at Yas Marina or Dubai Autodrome. Absolutely love it. Tracking your car can be expensive and from my experience there are two things that you must do to manage the costs. 1. Car setup and 2. Driver training. you partly covered point 1 but before you get on to a track you need to have the right tires, brake pads and suspension setup. its expensive buying the parts but it's even more expensive having to replace the stock ones... get yourself some cup 2s, DS1.11s and as much negative camber as you can... you will have more fun + it will end up cheaper for you as they last much longer on the track. on point 2 - the smoother and more boring you're driving is, the faster you will be and the longer your parts will last - this is what a driving coach allows you to do. if you don't do these things - you might as well get a bag of cash and throw it out of the window.

To be fair, there has to be 'some' limit, otherwise even the people who are at the track day, would be put off by the noise. And what might not seem very loud to somebody actually 'at' a track day, with the adrenaline and excitement of driving/performing, can actually be louder than you think, and that noise can travel several miles. So it is reasonable that somebody several miles away can sit in their back garden to enjoy some peace and quiet in the countryside, without having to listen to hours of car engines being thrashed. I voice this opinion as a petrol head myself, just one who considers others.

Great video, interested to see your racing plans next year. I won free unlimited Trackdays for a year with Javelin this year! 18 and counting so far, I’d hate to think how much I’ve spent on tyres, brakes, fuel and insurance (for reference I have a manual HS M2C, great taste hey 😛). Amazing prize but as you say the cost of the Trackday itself is only ~25-30% of the overall cost (depending on the track/time of year). After lots of experimentation I ended up finding components which maybe aren’t the fastest but provide amazing value, for example running Nankang NS2R tyres, I’ve managed 8 days compared to 3 on a set of Cup2s, albeit Cup2s are ~3/4 seconds a lap slower at my local circuit Oulton Park. Ferodo DS1.11s trump everything else imo in terms of longevity, brake power and cost. Plus a good Geo with plenty of negative camber saves tyres plenty, they wear much more evenly now. Keep up the good work, maybe see you on track at some point!

What is a racing license and how do you get one? If this has plenty of grip why do you want the xdrive? That insurance price is outrageous for a day - yes you go faster and push the car more but you have a much wider road and loads less cars, junctions, roundabouts, marshals etc. Of course I'd love to do it but not very often if that's what it's going to cost. That's not including wear and tear on components like breaks, tyres etc.

while i love your videos (subscriber), i think you set your own bar high, so i will say i was quite disappointed in this video. The title is "How much does a track day cost", but really you just add up insurance, gas, and track fee over 15 minutes. you don't discuss how hard you are pushing the vehicle, like how do your lap times compare to others in similar vehicles on that track. you don't really discuss tires or brakes. g80 m3 being such a large/heavy vehicle, if you are really pushing it, especially without camber plates, tire wear seems like it would be a major consumable item, and probably more so in the front, given all the weight being put on the front axel on every turn in. thanks for the video. i wish it was more in depth in terms of track day cost. also it would have been nice to have say a wireless rode mic setup so that the audio wasn't garbage. again you set your own bar pretty high for photography production levels :)

Hi Joe, just wondering how much money your current M3 held its value going in with it for the X Drive? Was it a straight swap so to speak? I’ve got a RWD Model with only 3000 miles on and just trying to weigh up whether to do the same?
@SH7SH7SH7

You should definitely get the x drive regardless of the cost, it’s so much better especially in the UK. And you can always switch to RWD if you’d like during the summer. Plus you can look for a nicer spec with stuff that might be missing on your current car? Carbon seats or a better colour etc?
