Even as a Protestant, I can appreciate the beauty, joy, and symbolism in this ceremony. It's two years since their professions, but I pray God's continued blessings upon them. I'm in my 50's and didn't realize until recently that the religious clothing nuns/mothers/sisters wear is symbolic of the armor of God.

I think they get Bride of Christ from when scripture talks about the body of Christ, the church, being his bride. I don't know if they take the title literally.

I’m super uncomfortable hearing nuns refer to themselves as brides of Christ. Why can’t it suffice to say they are devotees or apostles?

This is a reminder that God should be number one in our lives. The term “bride of Christ” is also used for religious sisters who center their lives on God and want to remind others of our final home, heaven, where all of us will be united with God in perfect love and happiness 1. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that all nuns are mystically betrothed to Jesus Christ. In this actual marriage ceremony, a young woman dressed in white makes a public vow to the Church. After this public profession, the young woman is told that she has become the bride of Christ and must consecrate herself to God “until death” 2. According to Catechist Magazine.

Religious Sisters and Nuns are consecrated to God in such a way by the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience that they enter into a spousal relationship with Christ. Their vocation is to be His bride, setting aside their own wills to better conform their lives to His will.

It is not a wedding day. They may take religious vows but they do not make sacramental marriage vows. I wish they would quit using the term bride of Christ, and that he is their spouse.

I am a protestant Christian and I can't understand why someone should close themselves in a monastery in order to show love for Christ. Jesus did not do it. His disciples did not do it. Christ send them in the world, not out of the world to cultivate selfish holiness. They lived among other people and families and preached with their lives of sound principles and service. Young women, your families need you. You should take care of your mothers and fathers and keep the 5th commandment of God. Honour your fathers and mothers especially when they get older.

How sad for these women...they are all married to an invisible man in the sky...they will never be loved by a human partner, never be mothers, never experience the joy of being a grandmother...they will live in a community where women covet power..its all a bizarre lonely lifestyle...

Not all women want children, and some of these women will be given the opportunity to work with children, but other than that I completely agree, it is tragic how these women have had their entire lives manipulated away from them.
