Gotta say this is still one of the very best Asian drama series... everything from the cinematography, the sets, the storyline, the script, the cast and the acting to the OST. Some drama series are excellent in some aspects but this one is excellent all-round.

This ending is sad but beautiful. To me it's not a bad ending our little princess went back to her xizhou and reunites with the ppl that truly loved her....her parents, her grandfather, A'du and I guess xiaowu who would choose her over everything else and catch a hundred fireflies for her. Now she's free... While li gouzi lived a miserable life this is her punishment to him our famous ninth princess's goodbye.

Many people have watched this drama with a modern mind thats why they can't feel the helplessness, and situations behind Li chengyin decision, he treated badly xiaofeng after their marriage its because he doesn't want others to know that he loves xiaofeng, if others will know that he loves xiaofeng they will use her to threaten him , and he killed xiaofeng grandfather because he thought danchi people killed his brother, although he had another reason as well but the emperor was determined to go on a war with danchi people so this war was inevitable, when Li chengyin felt sad of xiaofeng getting poisoned because of him gu Jian Godfather chai mu said he should consider the bigger picture which is their revenge so just see his situation, the empress killed his real mother, gao yu ming wanted power so he was helping empress to make li chengyin crown prince they just wanted a puppet who will listen to them , the situation wasn't in his favour , moreover when he killed xiaofeng grandfather he would probably be 19 years old an immature boy , with a heart filled with revenge so don't think that he didn't love xiaofeng he did love her but the situation, lack of maturity, revenge got him into this tragedy, he never wanted power, throne all the things he did was because of revenge, even through he did it for revenge but after killing xiaofeng grandfather he jumped off from the cliff along with xiaofeng he wouldn't have jumped off with her if he wanted power throne and for a moment he even forgot about his revenge this is why why he jumped off with her but later because of memory loss he killed gu jian because he thought gu jian and xiaofeng are old lovers and gu jian even provoked him by saying that xiaofeng and he used to love each other , i think instead of saying this things if gu Jian would have told him the truth things might have been different im not saying he doesn't deserve hate he deserves it , i hate him as well but what im saying is he deserves pity as well, his helpless,and eagerness to take revenge fir his mother, memory loss, immaturity, the situation everything brought him into this tragedy you won't understand the helplessness and imperial palace struggle of people on that era unless you put yourself into his situation,there are some things which you will understand only in the end same thing happened with Li chengyin after xiaofeng dead, he would have probably regretted his decision , remember what empress dowager said to xiaofeng when she said she cannot marry Li chengyin she hates him , empress dowagers told her about ming yuan who married into western liang in exchange of peace , empress dowager said do you think ming yuan didn't had hate in her heart for western liang people, she had but she needed to let it go because only when she will let it go she could achieve greater things which is peace, peace between western Liang and central plains what im saying is there are some things which you have to let it go but there was no one to say this to Li chengyin, abd in the end he ended up into a tragedy so what im saying is don't think that he didn't love xiaofeng he did love her ,he silently protected her he really loved her it just the situation , lack of immaturity, brought him this tragedy so i guess he deserved a bit pity im not saying he doesn't deserve hate he deserves hate i hate him as well 😭 it just that I think he deserved a bit pity and he did loved xiaofen

I think the novel's ending was more sad. The perspective of narrating how old ML was doing was told by General Pei's son: ML was said to b strict with his only son; It seems that he intentionally had 1 son only so as to avoid conflict over the throne (like he experienced and previous generation); ML never smiled/laughed, but he did when a daughter was born out of a concubine. He showered the daughter affection&love more than anyone in the palace, deluding himself that she looks like Xiaofeng and that she might be her daughter. Unfortunately, the child died, and ML prepared the emperor's coffin (reserved for him) for burying the daughter, much to the official's protest; ML was so heartbroken of his daughter's death that he looked older than he looked; ML conquered a lot of territories except Xiaofeng's clan; ML doesnt believe that Xiafeng died. (Although its pretty clear she died w/ A'du) ML deludes himslef that Xiaofeng must be roaming around freely with her family in thier territory that's why he doesnt conquer their land.

小楓一身紅衣 真的美如畫!!

This was a great drama even though it severely breaks your heart 💔What I hated about Xiaofeng was that she's too soft-hearted. Idk how you can still be in love with a man that beheaded your beloved grandfather, caused other deaths in your family, had a mistress and abused you emotionally/physically. It's truly disrespectful to a woman's self worth. Li Chengyin was a complex and layered character. He was cruel and yet charming at the same time. He seemed to have received his karma in the end although I would much rather see it in 52 eps. Chen Xingxu did an excellent job at such a young age!

oh how I cryed but every person who was in this movie everybody did a fantastic job on there acting I congratulate all the actors the custumes and accually everything about this movie was great congrats

i have watched this drama with all of its episodes and was amazing! beautifully done and created with perfect actors for it`s characters especially the lead ones... I was so satisfied and wished there`s a lot more very good dramas to make...

This drama has extra scenes (epilogue) where the ML & FL met in modern times and have happy endings.. ~ SPOILER ~ However, I feel the heart wretching ending here is suited. Whichever side FL choose will also made her unhappy. She died to prevent war and if ML regret.. well he deserved it)... VERY GREAT ACTING FROM THE CASTS! Worth to watch.
