@@sharkforce8147 Well, it's got the long lever and the sling at the end, but a trebuchet uses a counterweight, so it might be more accurate to compare it to a man-powered mangonel (something they actually had in the middle ages)... but really, if you think about it, it's just a particularly nasty lacrosse stick.

I concur. Been trying to find something new to play. Grim Dawn has worn my fingers out click click clicking. And I just can't take all the cutesy anime looking rpg games. I love anime but jeez.

Because ever since Ubisoft took over the HOMM IP, the people making final decisions on things have been bean counters and MBA psychos who only see video games as a tool to separate us idiot adult children that still play video games from our money, and "making a better game" means making a game that extracts more money from players at a lower development cost. That's the key to understanding shitty AAA developers: the businesspeople leading the show don't see gamers as customers to be taken seriously or treated with real respect, because they don't understand (or thoroughly misunderstand) why anyone would choose video games as a hobby.

Because expecting the very best production value from a corporate-owned AAA studio is like expecting the very best pizza from Domino’s.

What other games are you talking about? Songs of Conquest have basically made a total remake of the magic system, battle system and stopped cross-bree... the ability to combine things from multiple castle in one army, and that's just talking from the in-battle part. And Hero's Hour is, well, it's basically a HoMM fan game, so yeah, I guess? It still got the idea to make the battle as an auto-battler and that's already a pretty big idea, that this game copied. I mean, they basically made the same combat system as Hero's Hour, except they redesigned the spell book in cards... with less spells...? As of Disciple and Age of Wonders, they are licenses almost, if not as old as HoMM, so... Yeah, I honestly want to know what games you're refering to... because I wanna play them.

Check out Songs of Conquest. It's a true successor to HOMM.

To be honest, I didn't much care for how SoC played. Beautiful sprite art, but the factions felt flat to me.

If you are talking about the weapon at 18:05, then you are incorrect... That's clearly a staff-sling. Altatls are smaller (an extension of the arm, as you correctly state) and assist in the throwing of javelins, whereas these troops are launching some sort of rock or sling bullet from a sling pouch on the end of a much longer pole. (If you are referring to something else, my apologies.)

Same, Hero's hour was so good... except for the battles which were such a snorefest.

The best games tend to have a strategy layer and a tactical layer that are both good. XCOM 1 and 2 are a perfect example of this. Folks tend to replicate either the tactical or strategy layer and think ‘this is what you like right?’ And get it wrong. It’s not a part we liked. It’s everything.

I haven't seen any of Gustav Klimt's fantasy army work, I'm only familiar with his half-naked red-headed women with huge thighs work.

Mucha was our main inspiration for the game along with Klimt and some others so you have a good eye 🙂
