The McCready Strat cost $400 more than the Road Worn 1960 model you can get from CME. I love that one! The MM is basically the same guitar with a bit more hands-on time from the factory and the McCready cool factor. No brainer. Looking forward to adding the MM Strat to go alongside my red Road Worn model. Oh - and you get a hard case with Mike's version!! Now it makes even more sense.

IMHO, this is exactly what why post chapter 11 Gibson worked. They were lucky enough to find folks with both real ibanking and funds experience (I.e. from KKR), and who also love the product and understand the player mentality, to turn the company around.

My Mike Mccready Strat was delivered 2 days ago and I haven’t put it down. It’s incredible. Really nice case. Looks, feels and sounds awesome.

Hard Shell Cases- Man. I LOVE a nice one. It just elevates the class so much and there's just something about it that I can't help love. Opening it up, revealing a beautiful guitar inside. So good! Completely inconvenient and impractical though, for sure. Oh well, the heart wants what it wants.

Hey Dylan, I know that you talk a lot about how higher priced guitars reflect the quality of them and I don’t disagree…BUT I’ve owned a Squier classic vibe 60’s Strat for a few months. I put a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in it and it’s amazing…I’m not kidding. The feel, the sound, everything is phenomenal. One of the best necks I’ve EVER played. I’m very happy with it and to me, it’s a Strat that is totally worth owning…I’ll probably never sell it. Big McCready fan btw…I just played Yellow Ledbetter on it earlier today. That’s a nice signature model 👍

I agree on the case vs. gig bag issue. I love gugbags and I'm more apt to use a guitar if I don't have to exume it from a case!

One thing that I've learned from watching many guitar unboxings is that guitars shipped in boxes are almost always okay. Every time that a guitar was broken or damaged in shipping, it was shipped in it's case!

I've never had a Les Paul shipped to me in a case, be DOA, and those are notorious for breakages.

Im with you! I think its really cool and im also a fan. However, unlike the title of todays show, i think any Strat is worth owning. I love Strats! And i also think that some guitars should definitely have a case! Not all but for some its part of the experience.

Got my Mike McCready Strat recently ... it came out on top when I tried a bunch of Strats out to but (including some custom shop ones costing upwards of $6k). I don't really care for the relic'ing, not really thing but all I was looking for was playability.

Love the Mike McCready Strat. As a big Rory Gallagher fan it also ticks that box aesthetically. In defence of hard cases, I was very glad of mine at a gig a couple of weeks ago when a drunk woman missed the pub door on the way out and stepped/ fell into the case that my Taylor was in. The guitar survived and she staggered out with her friends 😂

Congrats on the purchase love Mike McCready his strat looks great. If I win the lottery I’ll buy his, Rory Gallagher & Morello strats, Billy Gibbons, Slash & Greeny Les Pauls, Chris Cornell’s 335, BB Kings Lucille, Springsteen’s Mutt, Edge’s Explorer & Hetfield’s Flying V & Jeff Ament’s Mike Lull JaxT4 bass and then I’m done 😂

Length times width times girth dived by the divisor scale which with ups is 166. FedEx uses 139. So ups will always be more affordable because. Math.

The only new and young artist Dean has is Miyako Wantanbe for the Japanese power metal band Lovebites. She has a signature flying V that was made before the lawsuit.

I'd hate to see Luna go. They have some great models for not only younger players but for people w/ small, weak, or injured hands. I've had injured hands for decades, really like my Luna.

I really like this guitar and have it ordered but am also thinking about a fender American vintage 2 1961… besides the relic and being made in a different country? In your opinion , are there a lot of differences? Is the American version worth a few more hundred dollars? Thank you.

Guitars have gone up about 2x since the '90's. That's not particularly crazy imo. Consider that scale factor versus cars or real estate. However, strings still being $6.99 or whatever still blows my mind. I usually buy a bunch at a one time because I expect them to go up at any point. I asked my wife to go into guitar center to get me some strings (and some nut sauce kekeke) and I had to ask her "how much you pay for those? $6.99? mmhmmm..." I guess strings are inflation proof.

This guitar is only worth it for the simp PJ fans that still convince themselves that the band is still relevant. Otherwise, a 60's Road Worn Strat will get you the same thing for much less. The Cobain Road Worn Jag from 2011-2013 relic job blows this one out of the water as far as accuracy and detail.That guitar is essentially a Custom Shop from Mexico. The McCready can't hold a candle to that guitar, but they also couldn't be too good on this general release version, because some dummies paid $10k for the 60 piece Custom Shop version that now resell for $22-25k.

Comment on Dean: Mismanaged businesses will never succeed. I can't see the numbers working for anyone to buy it. The name value has been greatly reduced and the debt is really high. Everyone concerned will lose on this one.

If you din't like the color of your pick up bibbins what stops you from changing it with a handy can of spray pait and a small sanding bloke to make it any color you like?? Or is that to easy you may have to remove the Pick ups from your guitar to paint them or simply mask off what you don't want to paint...lmao... therew's a solution for almost any problem. I simply order what i want online and pay for what I like... as far as dean guitars..I just never liked the wide 'V' shaped head stock shape...In my opinion it's gaudy and ugly

I really enjoy your analysis of business. But I can’t agree with you when you say “guitar cases are for old people.” I am 17 and really learn tons from my grandfather who is 62. I just can’t discard “old” people that easily.

Dean = Studebaker, lol. there was a day it was cool but it is looooooong past. Dean guitars are just straight up ugly and their designs are stupid. Period. No one is picking up a Dean and thinking to themselves, "Oh, yea, the ladies are gonna dig this!"

There are 2 things that immediately make an electric guitar a NOPE for me: 1) Less than 22 frets 2) Requires neck to be removed for trussrod adjustment. You can give a guitar all the pomp and circumstance you want, but theres no reason a Strat should still have these design deficiencies.

I don’t make my money on the 22nd fret… most people don’t. Also… once the neck relief is set, it rarely if ever needs to be messed with… not an issue for me… or most people if they are honest w themselves

@@DylanTalksToneI don't make money off my 22nd fret either. I play as a hobby, but it's an expensive hobby, and I want to enjoy my instrument. What I do know is that when Leo Fender built the Strat, we were still coming off Big Brass, and guitar was still rhythm-based. However, standard tuning is 440, and unless you want to risk snapping your high E string, a 1.5-step bend to get 2 octaves is obnoxious. You wanna buy 2nd kind of cool, that's fine. But there are a billion other Strats and Strat clones that play, sound, and look better.
