Great Review! I see that most of my questions were answered as I read below. Between Marantz 7705 (similar to an 8805) and HTP-1, sound quality - separation and details were relatively the same to your ear. Would love to see a review on the JBL Synthesis SDP-55 processor as I've not seen much info on this, or the SDR-35 AVR.

Great review man. I agree, they are off to a great start with the web UI, it's actually a great idea. I am not a fan of the Bass control being an add on, but if it can replace a minidsp, then at least there is definitely value added. I have been considering a processor and do plan to upgrade to one in the future; in your opinion, did you notice any increase in sound quality over your Marantz?

Great video Youthman. Thank you for going over the processor and yes like some of the other folks here have said I would like to hear more about it and more details. You mentioned about the processor taking a while to change inputs are you sure that wasn't the syncing up of the slow JVC projector is they are notorious for that? If you had hooked the processor up to say a flat panel TV/monitor that could sync much faster than say our JVC projectors you may have noticed it was much faster. Thanks again

A processor does two things in general w.r.t to audio. 1) Decode audio format --> this is a well-defined universal protocol, so every processor will follow the same protocol. 2) Convert the decoded audio format to analog and send it out to the amplifier and then to speakers. This is where DAC comes into the picture. #2 is what differentiates different processors with the quality of components used, their DAC design, and accuracy in reproducing the sound from the digital format. It does not mess with the audio content but definitely messes with the content reproduction and presenting it to the amps/speakers. Of course, there will be other factors like the features each supports/offers that will differ from one processor to another.

All I can tell you is when I went from an Marantz SR8012 to a Marantz AV7705, there was definitely better channel separation. It wasn’t night and day but significant enough for me to sell the SR8012 and upgrade to the AV7705.

Thank you the the video! Just a comment so that people watching this are aware that 10+ you describe seconds when switching inputs is not typical of the HTP-1. Most users I know of including myself experience the very opposite: fast input switching, in the range of 3-5 seconds. This can vary according to your setup, but a long delay when switching inputs is very unusual for the HTP-1 and should be investigate if you have the time to do so as it can be fixed.

Thank you for that feedback. I assume that was normal for this unit. The Emotiva RMC-1 had a similar time. Someone mentioned in the comments that it could be due to It’s been connected to my JVC projector. I’ll try taking it into my daughters bedroom and connecting to her 4K TV to see if it’s any faster.

If I want to use this GUI as my remote, I have to go thru these steps every time? Or once you are locked in, you are locked in forever?(no need to input IP address every time)

@Roberto, for my setup, I prefer the simplicity of the Marantz 7705. I believe Dirac Live offers a better and more robust room correction and if you love tweaking your system, Dirac Live might be a better fit. For me, I'm a "set it and forget it" type of guy. I want to run calibration, make a few minor tweaks due to my preferences and be done with it. I'm new to Dirac Live so it has a bit more of a learning curve than Audyssey. For new guys, Audyssey is much easier to use.

@x01e, I have no problem voicing my opinion on products. Brand deals and sponsored videos do not prevent me from sharing my opinion. The delay in my reply isn't because of sponsorships, it's simply because I receive soooo many comments, I cannot possibly reply to them all. Thx for watching.

The RMC-1 is a great sounding processor, just way too buggy when I reviewed it. I did not notice a huge difference in sound quality between the HTP-1 and the AV7705. Dirac offers a lot more control than Audyssey but also has a higher learning curve (which I have not yet mastered.

@johnmbell4642 3 жыл бұрын
Hey YM, very impressed with Dirac live unfortunately I’m not very impressed with the pre-pros, The affordable ones anyways that come with Dirac. if only Marantz would adopt Dirac that would be a game changer. I bought a Integra pre-pro in 2008 with audyssey just picked up a used 8802 marantz pre-pro which is eight or nine years newer with audyssey and they’re almost the same I know that this version of audyssey is more advanced but not eight years advanced. The Marantz definitely sounds better than the Integra no question also for the price difference it should sound better but that isn’t always the case but I’m very happy with the sound and the interface. I guess that’s just how it goes I really want a new supra but it doesn’t come with a manual, come on a two seater sports car with no manual option that would be like having a surround system with no subwoofer hopefully someday stay safe👍

@@Youthman I have the Monolith THX-365T and THX-365C for the front and THX-265B for the rear with dual Monolith 12 subs and I really love how they all sound…room is less than 1000 cubic feet. When we move though, I’ll most likely want to do a 9.2.6 setup with actual in ceiling speakers, etc, so I’m just thinking of what would be the “smartest” decision with amps. The 11X will for sure power those 4 ohm and modest sensitivity speakers well in my room now, but I would be buying another amplifier in the future. Since I’m only using 9 speakers right now, I could just get two 5x200 and then get another 5x200 when I move…I’m just OCD (actually) and don’t want them to change the design or anything before that time comes.

I had a chat with a senior tech at Marantz who basically told me there is NO difference between their AVR line-up and their processors besides removing the integrated amp (I had asked about upgrading from sr6014 to av7705), which kind of moved me away from the idea of a processor. What has been your experience? My current setup is an SR6014 (replacing with SR6015 soon) utilizing it as a processor by having a tonewinner 5300 and marantz mm7025 attached to the pre-outs, driving SVS Ultra towers, Sb3000, ultra center, rear bookies, and 2 polk in ceilings for atmos. The 6014 does not let me turn off the integrated amp but the 6015 will let me do so, so it can function as just a processor. That's where I wonder if there would be any difference... Many of the folks in my groups tell me to get an Anthem AVM60 or its successor, but I had every intention of using the audyssey android app and REW/Umik1 to manipulate my curves. Also have an SB3000 and a MiniDSP 2x4hd so I'm all set to properly room correct once I finalize my setup... Just not sure if a pre-pro is worth the cost for me.
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander. I was surprised by your statement regarding the senior tech you spoke with so I reached out to Marantz myself for clarification. Here is the response I received. • The AV7705 is close to the SR7013 in terms of quality and functionality as both products are built from the common engineering platform, but not the SR6014. The 7705 and 7013 offer superior performance to the 6014. • The AV8805 is far superior to anything else in the Marantz AV lineup in terms of quality and functionality. • Consider the AV7705, or the AV7706 is a budget friendly yet fully functional AV prepro which gets the job done for most consumers, custom installers, while the AV8805 is our flagship prepro if you are looking for ultimate quality and performance and own higher end power amps. In the past, I have added various amplifiers to my AVR's including the Marantz SR8012 and did not hear a huge difference. It wasn't unit I upgraded from the SR8012 to the AV7705 that I heard a significant difference. Hope that helps

@@Youthman Thanks. I wonder if they can elaborate further. It surprises me at this time that each time I reach out to Marantz I seem to get a slightly different answer. As you say, you found the AV7705 to be better than an 8012? This is where I find myself confused. Now I am curious again as to how my SR6015 with integrated amp decoupled will sound compared to say the AV7705 then. According to the tech I talked to, and from what you have said, it seems like it might be a shot in the dark, as many seem to disagree. Have you heard the Anthem AVM60 before or other pre-pros that might be objectively better to you than the Marantz lineup?

Good review overall. You start this video by saying Monolith has been making affordable stuff... I dont see how their stuff is any more affordable than competitions like Emotiva, Outlaw or SVS. Those brands have similar offerings at same or lower price that performs as good or better in most cases. Not to mention, those brands also have long heritage and reputation of making audio equipments that Monoprice lacks. Monolith is also known to suffer from QC issues and they have subpar customer service. I just cant see myself ever going for Monolith brand. Just my opinion.
@Youthman
@Youthman 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with sharing your opinion. Outlaw doesn’t have Dirac or all of the immersive formats. Last time I checked their current processor is very outdated. The only processor that is competitive in price is Emotiva and they have been known to be quite buggy. So yes, I still stand by my assessment.
@seanlacroix

I'd take monoprice stuff over emotiva any day of the week. They make quality stuff, I'm pretty sure they get other big name companies to build their stuff for them. Like their amps are made by ati which makes the best amps you can buy.
@danblack4564
@danblack4564 3 жыл бұрын
@@seanlacroix the whole ATI builds Monolith is false. The Monolith parts come from China. It is designed and parted out in China. ATI is just the assembly facility, their is zero ATI design or components in Monolith. The the HTP-1 I do believe is a calibration of both ATI and Monolith. Now Outlaws top made Amps are actually ATI amps but branded Outlaw. It is a huge misconception about the whole ATI/ Monolith amps. If it were ATI it would be 3x the cost. Again look at Outlaws two top amps. They are ATI priced cause they are ATIs.

Monolith has been introducing pretty good equipment and relative bargains compared to other name brand equipment. Monolith won’t always be the best bang for buck but in some areas Monolith is putting out some impressive equipment for their asking price. They have some very impressive speakers that compete very well with much more expensive brands and their power amps are made by ATI and have similar specifications to comparable ATI amps at a significantly reduced cost. That’s just two examples of how Monolith offers great value with some specific products.

The word " Affordable" is used to describe something that even low income families can afford. Your using wordplay to get views with " Affordable" and that's just dead wrong. Home audio equipment should never cost more than a vehicle. Especially since audio us something we can live without. A vehicle is a MUST for everyone.
@Youthman
@Youthman 2 жыл бұрын
As stated in a previous comment, if you are looking at buying a processor, this would certainly be affordable as the other options are a $16,000 or $32,000 Trinnov, a $12,000 Lyngdorf or a Storm Audio.. I’m not sure why you feel Hone Theater Equipment should never cost more than a vehicle. Just about any hobby can cost more than a vehicle (art, time pieces, sports memorabilia etc. Also, a vehicle actually isn’t a must for everyone. Plenty of people that do no own cars that either walk, ride a bike or take public transportation.

Not everyone is going to be able to purchase this. And maybe living in the United States causes me to have a different perspective because here, if someone wants something, there are so many opportunities just start your own business, earn extra income I’m going to yard sales and buying things cheap and selling them on eBay for profit. In other countries I realize that is not as easy to do.

It's "affordable" for a 16 channel processor, which he states that as the context multiple times. If this isn't in your budget, then pretty much no 16 channel system is going to. 16 channels is still pretty much cutting edge at the moment. If you don't need that, then you can buy less expensive equipment. If you do, then it's one of the most "affordable" options out there.

My room is medium sized (13’ x 19’ x 10’). Most dedicated hime theaters are larger than mine and could benefit from two additional Atmos channels (especially if they have more than two rows of seating and if they had 2 more subs than me (like for the rear of the room), there’s your 16 channels.
