Today I am in far North Phoenix, Arizona performing an inspection on this 2011 Camelot from Monaco RV when Navistar owned them. While I made a video about a similar aged Navistar Monaco on a Roadmaster chassis, I didn't expect to find another one so soon.
So join me as I try to point out some common failure points and inspect the motorhome and then quickly walk everyone through a very nice floorplan that would be easy to live in full time.
Thanks for watching!!

We have about 30 school busses with the Maxxforce Navistar engines and all of them needed a rebuild before they reached 100k miles. They just wore out which caused high crank case pressures which caused oil to spatter up against the rear of the bus due to the oil dripping from the vent tubes and getting caught in the air vortex created at the back of the bus while driving. We even joke about them being James Bond busses because some can create large exhaust screens.

Also, just wanted to say … my BFF had a 2011 Monaco Knight with the MaxxForce 10 for over 10 years & no issues till 2022. And, they mostly dry camped in the dirt all that time. The biggest issue was no one wants to work on them except the International dealer who wants major $$$ to work on it.

I spent 25 years working on school buses and to say the MaxxForce engines were problematic...that is an understatement. We hated those engines. We had 10 or 12 special needs buses with those engines in them and most of them never made it through the warranty period without major issues. The only thing that kept the school buying buses from International was the fact that they were built with a Cummins engine. The only International bus that the school had that I liked (this goes back to about 1998-99) was a 1985 conventional with the 7.3 diesel. This was back when the engine was equipped with a rotary injection pump, long before the engine was renamed as T444E and was pure junk.

2011 was the final year for the Monaco Camelot, available in 43 feet only -either in triple or quad slide layouts. This one is the quad slide with the fridge in the middle. I haven't seen one of these, so really enjoyed the video. We own a 2008 Camelot 36 footer and Camelots are great entry-level side radiator coaches. Dynasty is better, more high end, but more expensive as well. Thank you for sharing the video.

I looked at a Scepter in Palm Springs last year & it had those lite up switches throughout the coach - Multiplex I believe? But, the owner had disconnected some of them & installed his own toggle switches & the wiring for that whole system in the back closet was a nightmare. Apparently he was some sort of engineer that worked with Winnebago before retiring & he had done a lot of customization to the rig. Like the cookie sheet pan he wired under the engine to keep the leaks off the ground! 😂 Also, the socks he wrapped around a couple hydraulic hoses. 😮 They were in one of those fancy Motorcoach resorts so no oil on the ground allowed! This is why it’s so important to get an inspection! What was that noise at the engine in the very last part of the video?

Another very informative inspection James which just demonstrates how important it is to have a potential buyer carry out a thorough inspection prior to purchasing. The lack of electrical outages at the rear appears to be consistent with the loose fan on the roof so I hope there’s not any major issues causing leaks which is being covered by the leatherette ceiling. That would potentially be a costly repair. The skew on one of the slides is also concerning and as I have no idea of both cause and remedy I’m wondering how much all these issues might eventually cost. It’s a beautiful coach as long as the repair costs are within reason and give the RV a much longer life expectancy. It’s very low mileage for the year. I’m sure you have enjoyed this one and 10/10 for your observations. One day James… not too long fingers crossed 🤞🏼🇬🇧✈️🇺🇸💫

Another great video of an affordable RV for the common people, however I did get a little weirded out when the 5'11" guy that someone else pointed out to me the really small hands getting caught leering into someone's back yard. Keep them coming James I look forward to each one.

You are awesome I've learned so much from you,I prefer your way of doing things as opposed to the dealer recommendation where they differ.im rebuilding a 98 dutchmen 33ft and will not be tucking the roof into the front cap. Can you recommend a company with fair pricing for the roof?

Hello there from Massachusetts, I love your videos, they have been helpful. I have an opportunity to have a 23 foot toy hauler… The roof has been leaking for a couple years It smells musty inside. The frame is excellent it has a microwave, a sink and a small bathroom. I am a former mechanic of 18 years, I am capable of building a garage, sheds whatever… I can do plumbing and I can weld Not Sure on the year of this toy hauler I would guess it’s somewhere around the year 2000, do you think it’s worth fixing I know that’s an extremely difficult question to answer without seeing the unit. I have all the Time in the world, just not sure how much it would cost to buy fours and plywood is no big deal I’m worried more about the outside covering where do you even get that from?? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for all your videos, I love watching them

Another great video, I feel like I am absorbing a tiny speck of your bottomless knowledge every time I see one of your vids. Hey, my Tiffin has the checking pretty badly - do you know of any type of primer or prep that can keep it at bay for a few years after repaint? I have read its the fiberglass cracking underneath in response to excess heat, and I see it mainly under the dark colors so that makes sense. I am considering a Mexico paint job, primarily white on top, and would like to keep the checking to a minimum if possible, as we plan to keep this coach indefinitely.

What do you recommend for reconditioning and maintenance of a gelcoat roof that is showing checking as you've seen in this coach? Paint? I have a 2003 Rv with that same checking on my roof.

What is it about the max force motors? Is there something I should look for or just stay away from it. I'm just curious getting ready to buy a motor home myself and I am looking at Monaco Tiffin or a beaver. One other thing, How do you recommend taking off that lap silant on the roof As always, I enjoy your videos. Thanks.... Very informative.
