Check out this old 08s Stihl chainsaw that came in last week. We rebuilt the carburetor and cleaned and gapped the points. Runs pretty good!
Simple old rig!

I have a few of them, as you say a very simple and easy saw to work on. I think I must be odd as there are no video's on you tube really apart from yours. Thanks for taking the time to make the vid.

I never saw this video before but the 08/s-10 is actually a pretty sweet old saw I have 3 or 4. One of Stihl’s longest running designs and the old ones had the ts attachment for concrete, the brush cutting attachment, a water pump and also made a boat motor lower unit prototype but not sure it ever was made. Also powered a 2 man ice augers. Old 08’s were choke to kill for the first 2 years around 1960,. The next batches had the ground button for couple years then they went to the switch like all others. Some old ones had cast mufflers and newer had stamped steel. Trying to remember for sure but I believe they’re is 3 sizes of the 08. Original ones were just an 08 and then they made the o8s.

I'm not sure why your vidjeos stopped showing up on my feed, but I suppose it's because my spy device hadn't heard me running any saws for a while. Now that I'm woefully late to my wood shed you're magically back. Hmm. I have felt similarly about Stihl units myself, though I accidentally acquired a non-running 661C a few weeks back and after a little grinding, a spark plug insert, and misplacing the base gasket, I can't say I don't love it, Haha. It's not as endearing as some of my other junk . . . Just a nice (really nice) tool for a job.

I'm refurbishing a ts350 right now. got a new OEM piston and a decent used cylinder because oem top end kits are pricey and the star gry top end that was on it had some serious chrome plating issues. waiting for wrist pin bearing and it will be going back together.

All those concrete saws love a rough life, too.

I've got a couple I've rebuilt but never had in the wood. I've got an attachment to make it into a brush cutter, that is an absolute beast although abit heavy. That smoke alarm sure is annoying🤣 👍

They are a fun saw! Also, I hardly noticed the beep in real life because I'm always busy, but man, on the video it's incredibly annoying

FYI, regarding the points problem on some of this old junk, and you may already know this, but (as far as I understsnd) the "condensers" are just simple ectrolytic capacitors, which tend to drift from their spec over time. Now that most NOS parts are over 30 years old, many available replacement parts are not usable either. I managed to save a poorly/non running 032 from a literal scrap pile with a generic capacitor of similar specs from mouser or digikey for just a few bucks and some careful wire and cap relocation. Just drop a unit somewhere that it fits and ground one post with the other to the points. Back in business.

This is a great idea for sure and can save a few bucks. Those chips to replace points are really cheap and available too, so that's usually my go to if I can't get something right.

Got most of one of these with a blown up cylinder. I guess they had some neat attachments for these like a brush cutter and stuff for some of them and they're hard to find now. Pretty nifty though. Thought it would be cool to fix up but never got to it before covid beat me up too much to work on them anymore.

Sorry to hear about COVID taking its toll on you. Hope you're able to recover from it. Sounds like one of those model 35 Macs with all the attachments. I'll have to look and see what they had

Stihl DOES make (and has made) some really nice saws. I just tend to prefer Husky or Echo. I do like the styling on that 08 though. They certainly were innovators and game changers though. Even a non fan-boy can admit that.

Yep they sure do but I never really cared for them much. This one here got a spot on the shelf. I also have a 041 Super that I like a lot.
