Thanks for the informative video. My 48" GVM slider arrived today and I'm (excitedly) learning how to use it. Thanks for making the video and the graphing method for slider travel time and distance and the intervalometer calculator website is useful. I've also been puzzling on the timelapse menu meanings and might have come to a different understanding or way to explain: "interval" is motor run time (and as you said, how far it travels in that duration based on motor percent speed), "time-lapse" is time after motor movement until exposure, and "stop time" is interval between slider movements. I think this is a case of unclear translation but useful feature-wise if you think of being able to coordinate exposures and slider movements so vibrations caused by the motor could have time to settle before camera exposure... and if it is a long shutter as in a night exposure, that's great. Example: I set my "time-lapse" to 4 seconds and my stop time to 8: hit "center" and "right" buttons. It first moved the slider right, waited four seconds and made an exposure, waited another four seconds and moved the slider and so on. If you had a six second shutter speed, you might time it out so the rig has three seconds to settle before exposure and a second or two after that for margin, move, settle, expose...

Hi Corey. Just got my slider and I think your description of the "Time-lapse" setting is not quite right. You say it is the time between shutter actuations. It actually is the time delay between when the movement stops, and the shutter is actuated. That's why the Stop time has to be longer than it. Think of it as the "Shutter Delay" that allows any vibration caused by the motion to settle out. So if you have interval set to 5, Time-lapse set to 1 and Stop time set to 2, the full cycle time will be 7 seconds. So the time between shutter actuation is 7 seconds, not the 1 second set for the "Time-lapse" setting. A complete cycle would be: a) Move for 5 seconds at whatever speed is set, b) Delay for 1 second, c) actuate the shutter, d) wait for 1 more second to provide the 2 second stop time. Then the cycle starts again.

I appreciate your time and effort on this. I went through and did the same thing (testing number of shots at 100% and 1%) and got some pretty different numbers. So I would suggest to others to use your graph as just a guestimate, but to actually test their own to get accurate numbers for their individual slider. I got 115 at 100% and 1247 at 1% with the same starting and end points. That still puts me at between 79 and 80% for 360 photos... so still pretty close to yours. I'd just round down and get a few extra photos to be on the safe side to meet the duration I'm looking for. I'm gonna throw that spreadsheet on my phone with a little algorithm to where I can input desired photo numbers and it will spit out a rounded down speed %. So if I needed 576 25-second exposures with a stop time of 30 seconds to get a 20-second clip at 24fps (over a 4-hour duration)... I would enter the 576 into my form and since it falls between 60 at 575 and 59 at 587... I would round down to 59 just to be on the safe side and get those extra images to make clip link. Thanks again. Taking it out for a Milky Way shot next week.

By the way, very nice voice ;-) By the way, i would have illuminate the other side of your face as your small decoration back light is on the left of the screen. It would give the impression that this light illuminates your face. Just a simple tip generally used on interviews. Best !

Hey Corey, I have a GH4 but I seem to have problems getting my camera to communicate with the remote for the shoot-move time lapse feature. Did you encounter similar problems? I'm not sure if there is any settings I need to tweak in the GH4 for it to work

How do you set this slider up for longer exposures? 15s, 20s, 30s? To what do you set the “Time Lapse” and “Stop Time” settings in order to accommodate both the exposure and the card write time?

Still confused about the settings. What setting would you use to capture a sunset from day to night? Also, what setting for a 3hour star timelapse? I have the 48" slider.

Ok so I have an update: I bought this slider on Aug. 29th, 2018 and they've updated the software a little bit. Inside the time-lapse function, they've removed the "Time-Lapse" variable from the list and added "Speed" at the top. So the list now reads: Speed, Interval, Stop Time, Photo, and Auto Loop. "Stop Time" reads in seconds, and now seemingly the trigger fires in the middle of whatever your stop time is. I just did a time-lapse with a 6sec stop time...so the tray moved, waited 3 seconds, fired the shutter, then waited 3 seconds...then moved to the next position. So if you're doing a long shutter speed night time-lapse, give the "Stop Time" at least double your shutter speed seconds plus a couple seconds for buffer.

To find the different in speed between the 31” and 48” couldn’t you just multiply the number of photos by 1.54? That would account for the extra 17” assuming all other settings are the same. Just got mine last night and that’s what I’m trying to figure out

Hello, you said "time lapse" (shooting interval) is measured in seconds, which means it only goes up to 999 seconds (16 min), am I correct? If I have a 60 day time lapse project that shoots 1 frame per hour, it doesn't seem like this unit is capable of handling this job? Please explain. (I've never used this before). Thank you.

Hi Corey... very good job... this is the only instructive video on timelapse settings for this slider I have found... Let me ask you something... I am about to buy a slider and I have these three options: 1) GVM like the one you own 2) Ashanks S2 3) Ashanks Smooth ONE PLUS (bluetooth version) It seems the bluetooth version is more easy to set up for timelapses and I supose that the motor is much quiet for video apart from these you have a couple of thumbscrews for easy remove the motor and is cheaper, but I didnt find much information... so I am in doubt to buy it... Do you know something about ashanks models? what do you think? thankyou...!!!

the 'time lapse' is misleading, its incorrect!!

What a awful UI for Timelapse Photography... Maybe this UI would make sens if the Tracklength is infinite. But as long as the Tracklength is finite, the resulting numbers of pictures u can take from left to right is dictated buy the Speed and time in wich it moves aka interval. Also, wich TL Photographer cares about the speed of the Camera between the Shoots?! The movement of the camera should happen in the least amount of time, full stop. My idea for a way better UI: Delete Interval and Speed in TL Mode. Because the length of the Track is finite and given, the Speed and Interval can be calculated internaly from the number of Photos taken and that's all that matters. Only the Time between the Stops is left aka the new Interval time. With this u only have to dial in the number of Photos and the Interval time, done. The rest is done on the camera and ofc the exposure time has to be shorter then the interval time, but when u are shooting TL u already knew this.
