Just changed my transmission oil today . Used Valvoline Max Life Full Synthetic. Drained 3.5 quarts and replaced the same amount with new oil. Mileage 128,000 . Going to repeat this process at least two more time until the oil become clean. Hope that this is process works well. I really like this car and want to keep it. Next process the transfer case and differential next. Just save $1000. in changing the water pump. The dealer really wanted to take me for a ride. Got the part on line for $48.00 and did the job my self.

My 2004 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 AWD recently started having issues with gears. I went ahead and replaced the shift lever assembly, and it didnt change anything. At first, I was able to shift gears normally. From P to R to N to D and back again, no issues. Well now, I always get Reverse no problem, and when I can get it to get into D, it shifts gears fine. HOWEVER, its getting it into the gears thats the problem. I tried haven't adjusted the transmission cable because I cannot find instruction on how to adjust it with the automatic. But anyway, I can shift in R, and when shifting in D, it takes some effort to avail (IF ANY)-- you have to jiggle it and play with it and rev it here and there and shift into N and back again, but it just acts like it was in neutral and then powershifted to Drive. Once its in drive, it goes fine until you hit a simple bump or stop hard or come off the highway, then it feels like it goes back into N and power slams back into D. The gearbox selector is brand new and has just been replaced.. Am I crazy for thinking its the adjustment cable? And if so, any way you could advise me on how to go about adjusting it? Do i adjust it from inside the vehicle or outside beneath it? So confused, any help with greatly be appreciated. Thank you! Cheers

It may sound crazy but I think it is a fluid issue
@blairhilton2859
@blairhilton2859 3 жыл бұрын
@@ProfessorDIY It ended up being the cable from the selector to the transmission itself needing to be adjusted! I wouldn't put it passed to get a fluid change-- its on my list of things to do-- but rest assured problem solved!

i have a 2003 x-type with 130.000 miles. I never changed the transmission fluid. They say its a sealed unit. What was the trouble that you were having and with the transmission, and the oil change you did yield good results? What is the recommended oil for the transmission? Jaguar is very picky about the correct oil to use or anything else will cut the life expectancy of the transmission. Look forward to more videos on your Jaguar.
@ProfessorDIY
@ProfessorDIY 5 жыл бұрын
After 100,000 miles you should change it, it has both a drain and a fill port, The fluid degrades over time. You do not want your transmission to fail. I was hearing a sound but mine has 150,000. Nothing lasts forever. A new transmission will cost you several thousand dollars change the fluid and enjoy your Jaguar.

Jorge.. just an FYI. It’s a marketing technique used when a auto manufacturer produces cars. Sealed for life. Any thing that has a seal and a filter benefits from new fluid and a new filter. Plus it’s a peace of mind. I’m replacing all the fluid in my 2004 x type regardless what is recommended. If you want to play it save, keep measurements of what your take out and replace the same amount of fluid. On here you’ll get a lot of mixed reviews. Good luck. 👍🏻

Yep. Unrelated things will cause false code faults on these things. Especially coils or vacuum leaks. Most are easy to find without pulling stuff off but even if you have to pull the intake manifold, it's pretty darn easy.

The no reverse problem is due to someone probably removing the reverse band bolt thinking it was a drain plug. It is a booger to get back in position but it can be done. BTW...the x-type has a level check plug for the tranny fluid. It is under the car with a hose running to it.

I had the same thing happen to me . Gearbox fault, engine system fault. It might be the shiftier on the console that might be going bad. In my case i went to the jaguar forums and checked around. The car was in the garage for tree days, the i decided to cleaned out the throttle body and put it back. Started the car up and ran perfect. No codes , no check engine light and pass vehicle inspection as well. I am not saying what i did fixed the problem but it worked for me.

Otherwise if it worked for you congratulations saved yourself a LOT of money - I remember inquiring about this and I was told the recommended procedure was to replace the filter and I forget I think a cooling tube or something like that - but it was about $1200. I decided to go with this solution and I am sure glad I did.
