Financial Ratio Analysis - Part - 1 - The simplest ever explanation of the concepts and major types
Owing to multiple requests, we look at the concept of Financial Ratio Analysis in this video. Most videos on Ratio Analysis tend to confuse people on what it actually is and starts expanding on the various types of ratio analysis from the word go. We instead look at the concept and just touch upon a couple of types.

Valuable benchmarks in determining the comparitive health of a company for the purpose of purchasing equity shares. How extensive can you get with financial statement ratios? Balance Sheet, Income statement, and cash flow statemnt, and should you apply this process to 10Q, and 10K reports? How about using an Excell spreadsheet for those purposes? Hi George. Analysing financial ratios is an essential part of any due diligence in partnerships, take-overs, investments, etc. You can certainly use financial ratios to study organisations of any size. And yes, excel can certainly be used to decipher information. All he best! 🙂👍

Explain why ratio analysis is considered better than a mere comparison of figures in carrying out an overall appraisal of a company’s business?

When done right ratio analysis is far more robust in comparison to a mere comparison of figures. It can highlight various problems plaguing the business and can also highlight certain positives. It allows the company to conduct comparisons with other firms, with industry standards, etc. It is a lot more advantageous than a simple appraisal.

Hi Angelique. The answer's simple - in order to understand the health of a business. If an investor wishes to invest in a new / existing business, he/she would want to know as much as possible about its future prospects. And if we speak about business owners, they want to keep their own business's health under control, to attract more potential investors. Financial ratios go a long way in summarizing key metrics and business longevity.
