How to create natural pest control in a greenhouse. Are you looking for a way to control aphids and slugs in a greenhouse? Join the Manti Homestead as we take a look at Nate‘s approach, using by their nature to create a balanced ecosystem inside the greenhouse. Today we look at zebra finches and tree frogs as a solution to aphid and slug issues. We also check in with techniques to make the avocado and artichoke plants more effective. Greenhouse looks amazing! Update on my gardening attempt. My hydroponic cherry tomatoes have flowered and got pollinated with a qtip. Soil based tomato plants look good but no flowers yet. Lettuce (25¢ Dollar Tree packet) is fantastic. Thanks for giving me the idea to start it.

Great idea. Where do you buy finches and frogs and what kind did you buy?

You should be able to get a regular zebra finch and tree frog at most pet stores.

A tree frog could be anywhere from eight to $10 and a zebra finch around 25 bucks.

You mentioned zebra finches, but what kind of frogs? We have a 90' x 17' greenhouse and just put in a pond tank.

We just bought regular tree, frogs, $10 at a pet store. They are uniquely qualified to climb things, and I think that will be awesome especially if they start climbing up the windows and take care of all of the gnats, etc. that are common in a greenhouse. I will give an updated video once I can tell if they are as effective as I’m hoping :-)

What happens to your finches when it turns cold outside? Do they struggle to stay warm?

No, they seem to do just fine. It actually might be a little harder for them in the heat of the summer then in the winter.

Yes, we have a lemon, lime, and grapefruit. Tangelo and kumquat.

How do finches drown? How do they cope in nature with bodies of water.

I’m sure they also make the mistake and drowned in nature as well. In an enclosed space, we found that open pond was detrimental to them! I’m wondering even if I just simply had a couple of floating pieces if that would’ve save them? I’m not sure so we decided to cover the whole thing and just puncture holes in our foam to plant are mint plants..

This is not something I’ve ever heard of. It’s very cool! It’d be nice if you could use native animals so that if they escaped they couldn’t be invasive (of course if you use tropicals then they’ll die outside when winter comes anyway). I’d rather have snakes than frogs lol.
