Thank you for the informative video! Could you perhaps list some core skills to focus on in order to find an entry level position in AML when you don't have work experience yet in this sector? Also, how easy is it to switch from KYC to AML?

Hi Isidor, thanks for your positive feedback about this video and for leaving your comment. Here are some core skills that would be valuable for someone looking to start a career in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) with no prior experience: 1. Understanding of AML regulations: Familiarity with regulations such as the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA Patriot Act, and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) guidelines. 2. Attention to detail: AML professionals must be meticulous in their review of financial transactions, reports and documentation. 3. Analytical skills: The ability to interpret and analyze large amounts of data and identify patterns, trends, and anomalies. 4. Communication skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills are crucial in communicating findings and recommendations to senior management, regulators and law enforcement. 5. Risk assessment: The ability to assess the level of risk associated with various financial transactions, individuals and organizations. 6. Technical skills: Familiarity with various software applications, databases, and analytical tools used in AML compliance. The actual software applications used do change greatly from firm to firm so under this point you mainly want to show your knowledge about just some of those but mainly, your ability to quickly learn those that are used by the company. 7. Teamwork: The ability to work effectively as part of a team, and collaborate with other departments such as compliance, legal, and IT. 8. Adaptability: The ability to adapt to new regulatory requirements, changing risk landscapes and emerging threats. 9. Ethics and integrity: AML professionals must maintain a high level of ethics and integrity and follow industry best practices and standards. 10. Continuous learning: AML is a constantly evolving field, and it is important to stay up-to-date with new developments, regulations, and best practices. Also you want to show how you remain informed about changes as we operate in a sector that is under constant changes on many fronts. I hope the above is useful to you and to other viewers keen to move into an AML role for the first time. If I missed something crucial other members of our community are super welcome to further integrate my reply. Thanks for watching my videos and best of luck for your job hunt! Let us know when you land into your first role 🤞🏻

Thank you for your comment Mukesh. As I’m currently working for a leading provider of AML solutions - having a dedicated video to expand on that could put me in a biased/uncomfortable position. What I can do is to ask Adnan if he can write here some more info for you based on his experience.

Hi Lizzy, thanks for your comment. In this first series we are covering starting roles for those keen to join the industry but yes, if this is a topic of interest I’m definitely happy to expand further this playlist with more senior roles including main responsibilities of MLRO 👍🏻 Thank you for your suggestion and of course thank you watching my videos!
