I recently found your channel. We purchased a 42 acre farm in September. Too funny the similarities I am realizing as I listen to you two talk. We plan our little family compound. We are semi retired. We have 5 adult kids and are planning some log cabins… gardens, high tunnels, 😂. And no we didn’t always want to do it either but when we set foot in the property to view it we knew we were home.

This was a nice video, hearing how you started together in this journey on the 42 acre farm. It is so great, that you are looking into building more community, and teaching others the skills you have learned. Wow, what a blessing to be able to spend time with your family and grandchildren on your property, and see them each day. That is such a blessing! My family, and I would love to do this one day. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, we feel blessed and sometimes we feel tired. We enjoy having family and guests on the farm. This is all so unexpected. E had a funny moment the other day ....honey, did you feed the cows? Wow, that was something I thought I would never say! Thank you for watching.

@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 Your so welcome. I can just imagine what you mean about feeling blessed and tired at the same time, but what a wonderful thing to be worn out from. I was just working on our garden today and telling my husband what a blessing it is to be able to work with our hands outside, feel physically drained, but so happy to come back, and do it all again the next day. Especially when we get to provide the fruits of our labor to family and friends. Yes, that is a pretty funny moment about the cows! It must be amazing to just reflect on how far you all have come, and what you are all doing now! I hope to have that same moment one day too :-) Thank you for all you do and how you inspire.

I totally hear you! We bought a 33 acres farms with 3 big barns and a very old horse stable … 1 year ago now (we are early retirees and I have a side business, selling digitals online) and we never worked as hard in our life but somehow, it doesn’t feel like working! We are still at the structure setup (we just finished the new place for the horses and in the next weeks, we will get the chicken coop (hens) bigger. We say that we bought a potential! It’s a fixer Upper for sure here … lots of work ahead. Like you, we enjoy our morning and bedtime routine of taking care of the animals, locking or unlocking their space for the night. We move around with the golf kart and enjoy having a morning coffee close to the garden. We feel we are blessed! That was now our dream neither … life just brought us to find that place and we embraced this new lifestyle with excitement. As you, we are learning everything and I can’t wait to see where we will be into our projects (and all those we don’t even imagine) in 3-5 years :) I love your basement and cellar … oh yes! I would totally be that kind of person who enjoys visiting it. I am just a bit disappointed that my house is not that old so it is missing some character! But I will add some over time :)

Your beautiful pictures remind me of our farm (SW Virginia - Appalachian Mountains). I absolutely love the sunsets over the mountains, the births and baby animals, children riding their bikes in the gravel driveways and hills, first berries and tomatoes, the smell of freshly cut hay and tandem tractors and balers riding in field. A few times a year, we have friends and family over for a large cookout with bonfires that are the size of small houses. My favorite is sleeping in a sleeping bag on a lawn chair under the stars in the fall/winter listening to coyotes, hoot owls, curious fox, and the occasional crackling wood on the fire. It is a crazy life, for sure. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Yes, it's a true gift to be able to see them every morning before school. Those foster kids are part of our family. So far none have become permanent, but my son and daughter-in-law are open to adopting when/if it works out that way. Even ones that go back to their parents are still in our hears as grandchildren. Fostering can be very difficult...and heart-breaking at times.

But, learning and transitioning to be happy in the crazy is enlightening.

Just ran across your channel. My wife and I are in a very similar situation, we've got more sunrises behind us than we do ahead of us, and we really hadn't had any specific dream to live on a farm, it just kind of happened. When we got this hair brained idea, we looked for over year before our daughter-in-law found this 91-acre piece of land which we ended up buying a little over a year ago. So, I've spent the past year working on a building, that will eventually be my shop, that we moved into a couple of months ago after selling our home of 26+ years (many tears were shed). We are currently designing our new forever home and hope to start work on it the next month or so. We're also hoping to have our kids/grandkids move out here with us in the near future. Of course, a lot of questions come to mind but I'm sure you guys get too many of those to answer already. We have a lot of work ahead of us and I'm sure we'll struggle through some of the same "adventures" (lol) you guys have and will live and learn as well. I'll browse through the rest of your videos and hopefully find some that will give us a leg up on some of the mistakes you guys made! Oh, and one of the first things my wife wants... chickens! 🙄 Wish me luck! 😄
