You're a genius Sir. I spent a lot of time trying different tensions before I got it right for me. So I thought I'd check my oedal against your method and sure enough my pedal is exactly the same as you describe here. 👏🏼

Good advice. George Kollias also stated that he sets his spring tension so that he can rest his foot on the pedal and the beater stays just off the head.

Thank you so much!! I had a bad car accident 2 years ago and lost my drum set in the process.. came back and was no where near my old level of drumming after huying a new set. I got frustrated! It looks like they only weighed one foot in the video. I'd say adjust both to the same tension.
@ArtOfDrummingHQ
@ArtOfDrummingHQ 4 ай бұрын
Adjust both using the same method. But this will give you lighter spring tension on the left slave pedal of a double pedal because most slave pedals have more resistance due to the connecting shaft rod. Hence both sides will not be the same tension, if you want to use equal force for both pedals.

@tonyhades90

Hi there some how I feel comfortable playing like you but when I lift my heel up and push it down to strike the hit is so powerless like the beaters almost don’t bounce out of the head and my beaters are a bit far back than normal and spring tention is a bit high otherwise I wouldn’t even get a decent rebound out of the pedal, I really don’t know how to explain this I’ve spent months trying to tweak the pedal to my preference but Jesus Christ I can’t get it to work

Thank you for this, dude! When you rest your leg on the pedal, are you also pushing down with your feet, or are your ankles "neutral"?
@ArtOfDrummingHQ

Neutral. The 2 finger spacing is just a rough idea. The weight support concept is important. Tweak to your pedal and experiment a bit!

@@ArtOfDrummingHQ OK, well, I was just wondering.... When I keep my ankles neutral (no tension at all), I don't see any difference in beater-angle when I loosen or tighten the springs... So I keep my calves contracted while resting my leg on the pedal. There is roughly 1 finger between the beater and the head. Seems to work for me (had to loosen the springs a bit)
@BlastBe4st

I play heel up exclusively.. there is way more weight on the pedal this way, should i consider the same way to adjust spring tension?
@ArtOfDrummingHQ
@ArtOfDrummingHQ 5 ай бұрын
I play heel up exclusively too. Because you are usually more tensed while in constant heel up. it also makes sense for the spring tension to not impede you. But it's also slightly different for everyone. Just ask if you have enough support with this spring tension, or what if you reduce it a little and still get enough support. Or what if you raise it and get more support, how would that feel over a week? You'll eventually find your ideal

Beater position will change the sound on an acoustic skin. You want a good sized body, fix the beater height to your liking, then adjust the spring.

As well as having the beater height be longer will give you a more powerful punch.
