If you want smooth level floors, 500 year old houses aren't your best bet.

As an American, I lack the longer historic context. But I just do not get people ooh-ing and ahh_ing over the places that look like cartoon fun houses from the outside. Sure, it's stood for 500 years. But what's *holding* it up?! Memory?! And how long are you going to be able to be, or be willing to put up with, bending near completely at the waist to enter your bathroom? And the *maintenance*! No. Charm and character have their place, and I can appreciate it at a distance, but not at my expense.

the last one: 7 acre multi-building: i would buy in a flash, and what gorgeous surrounds!!! including river and granite stone church. heaven on earth. great contour, too.

House 1 (1 min mark) - Wow I feel the previous owner must have been Austin Powers « groovy baby ». I didn’t think this combo of wall paper and carpets was humanly possible. Individually they are eye brow raising, collectively it’s gag inducing

Their 'budget' means how much they're wating to spend, it does not imply that is all they're able to spend. It would be rare to anyone sensible to offer the asking price, I certainly never have.

I wonder if they at least partially stage these houses. I noticed that one house in Part One had a cello in the corner of the sitting room, and one house in Part Two had a string bass in the corner.

Perhaps somebody from Kirstie and Phil's orchestral department is involved! Seriously, any musician worth their salt would usually be far keener to put their much-loved cello or bass safely away in a case. Especially with clumsy strangers in the house.

(0:30) "ARrrggghhh!!!!" WHO would do that to a room?!?!? That is just frightening. Dreadful wallpaper, scary carpet and those POOR BEAMS!!! ...omg!!! The ENTIRE HOUSE!!!! Oh, how I love England (more than life itself) but English taste ... you get the best (and extraordinary craftsmanship), and then ... the very worst. And HERE, you are looking at the latter.

Sadly without planning restrictions most of Englands historic dwellings would have been destroyed, split into flats, given ugly extensions or filled with upvc windows.

I disagree, what they occasionally lack, it seems, is common sense. It is right and proper to do all we reasonably can to preserve our history.
