Customer called because he was noticing a gurgling noise whenever he flushed. This septic tank was installed sometime around 1950. The customer didn't know where the tank was located and had actually been running over it with heavy equipment.

Obviously not cleaned in 20 or 30 years. Black soil around the lid means trouble. The proto-tek won't work if the lines are jammed. Never tried the crust buster but looks like it works well. Gotta tell owners to pump every 2 years and don't flush wipes, rubbers (unlikely at their age), cigarette butts, dental floss or tampons (also unlikely). Just crap and single ply paper work the best. Retired with 25 years pumping tanks in Connecticut. I've seen it all. Nice job guys!

Good job and a nasty one. Can't believe people flush wipes and floss. Took my washing machine, shower and laundry sink off the septic and run the grey water elsewhere after a 5 year old system was failing. Installer never put a filter on the outlet side of the tank so I added that too. Nothing like hanging upside down with your drill strapped to your wrist in a septic tank.
@peachyclean93
@peachyclean93 8 ай бұрын
That's not good You want all that extra water carries enzymes in it for example laundry soap has enzymes and organic material in it that help break down the solids You're not doing your septic system a favor that's for sure That's a big no-no also want warm water during the winter time to encourage breakdown....

The guy from the city would sign them off without us even putting a length of pipe in the ditch. On mine I did not even know where the tank was to back fill it with sand like it said had to be done

I bought my house 8 years ago. The septic system reportedly originally served the houses on either side of me. I live alone so I don't strain the system much, but wonder where exactly my tank is at. I have a general idea because of a vent in the line from the neighbors house on one side. My ground is rock hard so metal rods would not work. Love the idea of a flushable transmitter!
@anvilsvs
@anvilsvs Жыл бұрын
I see the transmitter has a lug to attach a line. That would work for what we need to do which is trace a line to the tank. Feed it down maybe 5 feet at a time and locate where the pipe is. And even if you lose it $34 is a lot less than tearing up the entire yard.

I have a house built in the 50's and I wish they had used a concrete tank, for some reason around here they all seemed to use steel tanks instead. Discovered during the first pumping that the previous home owner had made his own lid out of pressure treated boards and the edge of the tank was partially caved in, leaving the boards sitting at a 15 degree angle. I'm currently scheduled to have the same company that pumped it out replace the tank. Oddly enough, everything still seems to flow well so I'm just hoping now that the leach/drain field is still functional and the previous home owner didn't do something stupid like pipe it into the storm drain instead.

Those old,homemade septic tanks are very interesting and believe it or not are usually grandfathered in as long as they are still working properly. Terra cotta piping were used on factory made septics back then,too. Do you know what year your septic was built?

@@user-lt5bp3ww3n I moved on the property back in 1978. It was old then. I think made in the sixties. It was working properly but had to upgrade when I upgraded my home. If it's an actual septic "tank",it's probably a "crock tank". Terra Cotta tank. It could just be a cess pool which is much more likely. They didn't really even have indoor plumbing untill the early 1900s though,so......I'm not sure if a few people actually had it in 1850 or if there was actually indoor plumbing but it must be a really big an elaborate old home then.
