We’ve moved a lot in the past few years and I’ve found when we had a finished/remodeled house we’ve been bored and uninspired. Our warmest memories are from the houses with the most projects. It’s hard to embrace in the moment, but just look how far you’ve come and the memories you’ve made already! Look back at some of these videos from even 6 months ago…it’s all coming together!😊

You spoke right to me. I'm 29 with a 3 year old daughter and 2 year old son. And been with my husband for 12 years. I'm doing all the homesteading things, literally only need to buy ingredients such as flour salt etc. But we moved last year to a beautiful river bottom farm with plans to build a home. Because of prices we bought a single wide trailer instead and it has been an extremely hard. I never wanted a trailer. It's pretty cute on the inside but there are alot of imperfections that get me so down. You spoke right to me when you said you practice gratitude to not get down about your home. We are homemaking mommas/wives. Our spaces are important to us. Glad to know I'm not alone in feeling that way.

Just keep in your heart that WHERE you live doesn't dictate what KIND of person you are or what your worth is. AND just because you live in an actual 'house' doesn't mean the situation is any prettier or better. I have lived in a falling apart (literally) old, old, old house for all of my life (I'm 43) & it wasn't until about 5 years ago that we started gaining traction in the other direction. (I inherited the house I grew up in, that has been our family's homestead since 1851, built in the 1700s by a Revolutionary War soldier). Thomas Merton, a Cistecian Monk, wrote in Seeds Of Contemplation, "My chief care should not be to find pleasure or success, health or life or money or rest or even things like virtue and wisdom - still less their opposites, pain, failure, sickness, death. But in all that happens, my one desire and my one joy should be to know: "Here is the thing that God has willed for me. In this His love is found and in accepting this I can give back His love to Him and give myself with it to Him. For in giving myself I shall find Him and He is life everlasting." God doesn't care that you live in a trailer and God is aware of the 'imperfections'. Lots of love inside, your home & your heart, are all that are needed! 🥰 And let me tell you, as a child that grew up in a run down home and raised kids in a run down home, it has taught us to JUDGE NOT of other's homes/imperfections & that the people that truly LOVE you do not care what kind of home you live in. Our house, no matter what it's state, has always been full, full, full, to the brim with guests, visitors, strangers, & love.

We use tomatillos or salsa verde on chicken thighs in slow cooker with lots of cilantro, diced onion, diced jalapeño, thin sliced carrot and a little red salsa (if only used tomatillos). Cook till its cooked through, then shred chicken and mix it all up and serve on nachos or tacos, or add some cheese and cream to make a cheesy dip. Its absolutely amazing!

You know what’s even better than tomatillo salsa? Is fire roasted salsa! I’m Spanish and my hubby is Mexican and our favorite way to make fresh salsa of any kind is to torch it with a blow torch so that it’s got lots of blackened areas -the fire roasted goodness-and then just use it in the salsa the same way you normally do and it just totally elevates the salsa! It’s so yummy i highly recommend you try it! But if that’s not your thing of course that’s totally fine too lol anyway blessings to you! ❤
@mountainmamashome
@mountainmamashome 7 ай бұрын
That sounds absolutely phenomenal! I've considered getting one of the blow torches and I think you just pushed me over the edge! On another note, you talking about fire roasted reminded me of a funny memory/story. I once burned spaghetti sauce my mom was making for a crowd. I tried to convince her it was okay because now it was fire roasted. She wasn't convinced, lol!

*** I vote for canned pear halves for you next year.**** They are divine - better than any dessert! kitchen 'sight' makes me laugh right now (in March) because my kitchens ends up looking like this too. It makes me laugh now, but feeling like sobbing when it is going on in Sept....😅I feel so grateful to have the wonderful harvest coming in & I have actually built up to raising/growing most of our food for the year, but it is a sight. I do not have much kitchen space, even tho this is an old farmhouse. I honestly do NOT know how my great grandmother did what she had to do in this house with 6-7 kids underfoot???? We have added on & I am still cramped for work space. I have a work table in the middle of the kitchen & it ends up HEAPED with produce & canning 'stuff'. I homeschool, too & we do NOT start our school year until after harvests are mostly done. I aim to have tomatoes canned up & done by 2nd week in Sept. I spend all summer canning 1 batch of 'something' every single day. Except for tomatoes, peaches, & pears I never try to can bushels of stuff all day. And this includes canning 'for hire' for others. I will often be canning for 2-3 extra families on certain items (I preserve in trade for produce, or for $$$, or barter for some other service). Luckily, my MIL LOVES to cut fruit - so she comes & spends the day trimming peaches. I never even bother to put any canning stuff away & I am always on the hunt for jars. 2 years ago I found quart jars for $10 a dozen at our Dollar General. I bought all 24 dusty boxes of them & solved that problem. LOL.The good thing about canning with someone else is that the jars 'flow' back & forth between our houses & no one person needs store them all. 😁 I just put off school until the major canning days are over & we never take any other vacations; no 2 week xmas or spring break or anything, so I can justify the late start (in our state, NY, you can set your hours how ever you want as long as you meet 900 hours for the school year). Then comes venison canning & the very LAST thing I can is the turkey broth & soup out of Thanksgiving leftovers. By then I am exhausted & am glad to put it ALL away for a few months. I can NOT do more than one huge task in a day anymore. I have some chronic illness that slows me down - so it is either canning & we eat, or homeschool & we're smart LOL LOL LOL

Hello! It sounds like we are cut from the same cloth, Patty! I loved reading this. It sounds like you have so much wisdom to share! One of my sons is begging to learn to hunt deer and I'm looking very forward to eventually having a hunter in the family! I haven't had venison in ove 20 years! I'll probably freeze ours once we get some. I used to cook it with a head of chopped garlic and lemon!

@@mountainmamashome Yes you absolutely should 'indulge' his begging, whenever he gets old enough to hunt in the state that you live in. In NY we can do a youth hunt weekend at age 14. Our 17 yr old daughter has harvested 4 bucks off our property & this year it was an 8pt that was bigger than her DAD's😲and we are having it stuffed for her. Hunting has taught our daughter many important life lessons about responsibility, nature, animal conservation, independence, & the sacredness of an animal's life. She is a serious, sensitive person & I am amazed at the fact that this year she could even gut & clean the deer. proud mom, for sure!

It is so nice to see your video! Wow those tomatoes are really cool and I have never seen hanging draping types before. It is cool how the peppers are in all the windowsills. Boho theme is nice! Things don't really go out of style these days, honestly. There are some things that age poorly or are not cared for carefully though that can make them look bad. I think your chair looks nice! If you like it and use it a lot, that is what matters. I love that you covered your TV to help your kids understand their priorities better. I had to take away a computer a couple weeks ago because a school project was not handed in on time or worked on well. . .so a week without computer for that child. They did not argue at all with me and understood. It is a good discipline to take away the things that kids love so they can do what is important. That child also is my working child, so he isn't constantly in front of a screen anyway and makes his own money.

I want to get an herbalist certificate but a lot of the programs cost a lot more than I can sensibly pay as a SAHM. I would also like to figure out how to work in a part time job but it’s tough with the hours my husband works.
