Just wanted to say you guys are such an inspiration. I just moved back to Oregon from Arkansas and my wife and I are seriously considering starting our own channel! And seeing you guys having such success and fun makes me excited to get out in our Subaru and hit some dispersed spots and start filming! I noticed you talking about gumbo being food from back home... I grew up in Texas but all of my family is from southern Louisiana and we would visit New Orleans all the time for family visits and Saints/LSU games.

Castle Crags has been one of my favorite camping & hiking destinations since 1985, but I found out a long time ago that a lot of people in these small towns don't like "out of towners" or strangers or campers and treat them with contempt and disrespect. Even some of the park employees & park rangers have treated me like a criminal for no good reason, they think everyone is suspicious if you are camping in the National Forest or "boondocking" instead of paying high fees in crowded campgrounds where you are under surveillance. I camped in the Shasta Trinity Nat. Forest just past the State Park and was constantly harassed by townspeople, park rangers and other campers. I stayed for 30 days in a class c rv in the shade near a cool swimming hole during a summer heat wave and my much needed vacation was turned into a nightmare. I love Castle Crags and Castella/Dunsmuir/Mt. Shasta City/Weed and will keep going back but I will always have to watch my back. I've gotten lost in the Castle Crags Wilderness when I couldn't find the trail back down and was unprepared for an overnight stay in the wilderness. I've also had some close calls with rattlesnakes, both way up in the Crags and down near the creeks, they can pop out of nowhere and all of a sudden be right in front of you, or hiding under your vehicle. Always need to be looking out for them around there.

I drove to Bend in 2020 from the city and almost drove off the road cuz I was stunned by the crags!

Found your channel in the last couple of weeks and have been meaining to ask if you've thought about joining in on a Gambler 500 event, and here you are plugging the Sons of Smokey app. Biggest reason I want a place to mount my spare on the back of my rig is I have a good spot to hang one of their trashbags (well that and I don't want it on the roof and it won't fit underneath).

I camped out on my road trip at the castle campground . pretty fun little campsite 25 bucks a night or something.

Be assured, their are ppl that are glad ur aware of always trying not to be murdered. Mostly ur MOTHERS . Also be aware and glad that they care in an extreme protective way if u actually are in danger.

Bummer about the trash, so frustrating. Looks like an awesome area otherwise.

Did you know about the Castle Crags "Petroglyphs"? Very hard to find unless you know where to look. About a mile & a half from the Castle Crags Railroad Park Campground, right by Little Castle Creek on several boulders are carved "Mystic Symbols", some say are from "Lemurians". They became known when two people found them in the '40s and the Forest Service and Stanford University examined them and wrote articles about them. There are Egyptian, Hindu and other "Symbols" and even handprints with symbols, about 13 total.

Did you know about the "Treasure of Castle Crags?" Gold coins robbed from an Army mule train in 1848 near the Crags and buried in it's recesses. I have been there searching for it and believe I found the right location. A certain treasure hunting magazine in 1965 had an article on it and gave several locations where it might be, which they had searched and not found it. My location is a different one and I believe it is the right one but I haven't found it yet either. Some say $40,000, others say $200,000 in Gold Coins were stolen and hidden up in the Crags, and a native American woman local knew where it was and would make trips into the Crags and bring back Gold Coins. Others tried to follow her but they never found the location and treasure hunters are still looking for it.
