Diversity in data is often ignored and shunted to the side in the making of AI often creating biased results. A homogeneous perspective often neglects minorities or underrepresented groups in search of crafting the most applicable statistic applicable to the most people. How can we address and solve the lack of diversity in both the data collected and the people collecting the data? Aishwari Sirur is a senior at Moreau Catholic High School interested in advocating for the presence of women and POC in tech. Curious about coding from a young age, she always found joy in creating her own projects ranging from finals grade calculator to a robot labyrinth navigator. Beyond that, Aishwari is also secretary-treasurer for Moreau's Women in Coding Club which is currently aiming to encourage Engineering and CS interest through mentorship programs with college students who are a part of the Society of Women Engineers Club. As a prospective computer science major, she hopes to always speak up and use her voice as a platform to discuss equity in tech. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
