Yes, it is. Passive versus active sexual abuse. Overt versus covert, sometimes called. Yes, when we are teased like that, or other degrading remarks, its emasculating for a man, or a woman (not sure what the word would be for a woman).

Not to me. To some extent it has truth but primitive tribes (where people run around half naked and are comfortable with the human body unclothed)… I’d want to know more about whether his paradigm fits there. I guess I’m saying his paradigm is appropriate based on the mores of the society but how universal are they in application to humanity?

I just watched this, and it was eye-opening! I’ve experienced a Healing Retreat with Bob, Bart, and Sister Miriam, but at the time I attended, I wasn’t sure exactly what I needed healing from. When “Restored” came out, my first thought was “that has nothing to do with my life.” I’m very wrong! I ordered the book while watching this video. The Holy Spirit spoke loud and clear. Thank you for this interview. God bless you and Dr. Bob for sharing your faith! Pax et Bonum. ❤️🙏🏻🕊

This was a powerful interview. I regretted that I did not hear enough about prayer. I sense he understands something of the direct interaction of humans that he believes is required for a deep healing. I cannot dispute this but I think healing is even more multidimensional than he expresses here.

36:00 The lack of final efficacy of a spiritual regimen resonates with me. Rosary, scripture reading, fasting, consecrations, confession, Eucharist etc. I have never been tempted to think that these things have no power, or that God doesn't care or cannot help. I have always thought I either am not deeply committed on some level that I am not aware of, or that God allows temptation to continue to keep me from thinking that I broke free by the power of my disciplined regimen. In either event, I have no doubt that He is sovereign, and can completely heal me at any moment He chooses. Whether He does so during life or at the moment of death makes little difference to me (most of the time). Now I wonder whether that isn't a rationalization.

Anger is a difficult emotion for me to express. I tend to internalise my feelings. Is it fear of being rejected? I am now an older woman. At times, I find myself crying at inappropriate times. This is more of a psychological question, instead of a spiritual one.
@mR-dc4oq
@mR-dc4oq 8 ай бұрын
I’m wondering if the emotion feels so large and the skill to express it, in a way that still allows you to feel in control of yourself, is at the root of the problem. Generally, few people tolerate or appreciate being on the receiving end of someone’s anger. I think it helps to sense the emotion arising, early on, in order to set the appropriate boundaries we require. I think it goes down better. I’m guessing... ❤️

Here’s one: some people close to us don’t want us healed. If we are healed it exposes them. That’s a tough one. I guess that’s some sort of dependency issue. And in our brokenness and love we might decide to stay broken out of love for the other and that’s another dependency issue in itself. Just speaking out loud for a friend. This person was called to be a priest and has shelved the calling to walk with the other in their pain. However, is this one with the calling choosing the easy path? They don’t want to abandon the one with abandonment issues, yet their fear for the unknown is a narrower path. Difficult.

“ living my faith, but my heart in a protective place” describes me perfectly. Both parents abusive with each other. My childhood was a nightmare and that is putting it very mildly. My mom passed when I was 12, losses in between, then lost my baby girl when I was 6 1/2 months pregnant, lost my absolute best friend in my sister when she was 37, and 12/12/21 my husband of 41 years. I do not trust that God is a loving God, or that God loves me.

Wow...Matt mentions how he's amazed that when his wife sees his bad side come out she doesn't leave but shows mercy and continues to love him. If I were in his place, I would do anything I could to redeem myself by doing good works, or giving her wife good gifts, because otherwise I'd just be ashamed or feel bad about myself cause I did badly, and the main way to feel good about myself would be with doing good things so as to counterbalance and overcompensate for the bad stuff. The idea of deserving punishment also just seems to reinforce the shame, and forgiveness / mercy doesn't seem to relieve that even after it's granted, so the only way to truly get rid of the shame would be to do more good to overcompensate the bad. How does one deal with this attitude though? I think Dr. Schuchts wisely touched on this and hits the nail on the head by explaining how shame can also cause wounds, so God's healing extends even to that, since one of the keys here is that we should see we're still lovable to Him even though we're sinners. And in fact, Scripture itself describes how the ultimate flower of healing eventually means forgetting the past, being a new creation and looking ahead instead of behind, and having one's soul fully purified from sin. To be forgiven by God literally means we're worth forgiving as it's an undeserved gift, and you only give gifts if you consider the other worth gifting. And I think this may be a possible answer. Dr. Schuchts, if you're reading this, what do you think?

Well I am no perfect wife, that’s for sure!! But Matt doesn’t need to lavish gifts or acts of service on me. You cannot “redeem” yourself, nor can my husband. Christ is the Redeemer!!! Best for Matt to Focus on being a good husband to me is the best! It makes me want to be a better wife too!

I think every honest marriage has moments where you wish you could be better and/or ashamed of your own mistakes, and sometimes that awareness doesn’t even happen until you’re in the middle of a difficult moment with your spouse. I think his expression is more common and brutally honest and vulnerable than most people admit and for that, I would say he’s brave. Plus, Cameron seems happy and very much in love.

I think he was actually very careful in not doing that. He is very aware of varying degrees of abuse (he mentions working with people who've been through horrific experiences) and in no way is he leaning towards relativism. I personally am thankful for his insight into all levels of sexual abuse because it helps in shedding light on sin and aids in healing.

Matt you are doing such a service to the Body of Christ by presenting these programs about healing. ❤️‍🩹 Thank you! He is right about this day and age about everyone being sexually abused in someway. People just aren’t educated about what it is. He is right about healing porn addiction is not just acknowledging it’s a sin. That is just the first step. Giving grace is not freedom. Abuse needs to be relived and emotions processed. But I totally disagree agree with the way this therapist worked with this family that suffered incest at the hands of the father. Healing of the daughters should have been first priority and never should have daughters been exposed to the perpetrator until they were healed first. Everyone need to be handled on an individual basis and remained so.
