Much Appreciated to make it easy but like you said most manufacturers make it harder by not putting any information about part or any clue so for instant I have icon treadmill motor but no brush part info

This would be helpful if I had spare, new brushes to measure, but I don't. Any tips for sizing based on the remnants of my brushes and the slots in the motor housing? Also, I'm assuming that, if necessary, I could simply buy brushes that are slightly over-sized and file/grind/sand them down. Is that a viable option?

Absolutely. You can measure the brush dimensions of your brush holder. Also e-mail me a photo of the brush you have with whatever remains with any dimensions you have, and I'll see what I can find.

A oldie popcorn maker I've got produces satisf. heat. Where the machine lags is in blowing the kernels around the heat chamber. On a hunch I think the blower motor is weak. Would new brushes have a notable effect?

Could be brushes or the windings. Not sure this would be a brush type motor. If so, replacing the brushes could help quite a bit if they are worn and the rest of the motor is still good. If the windings are bad, we could rewind the motor, but it could be pricey. Brush replacement would be your easiest and cheapest possible repair.
