Tbh I was playing animal jam for years as a kid, probably around 2012 - 2018 ish? I stopped playing because of what a cash grab it became. It was soul crushing to watch things you used to be able to do on a free account, become pay-only. I immigrated from the US to New Zealand in December and now that I work for my own money I can see the value of it - and the lack of value in an Animal Jam membership. I just went to check its cost. 57.95 USD for a year. That is literally 96.81 NZD. To put this into perspective, Dragon Age: Inquisition is 49.95 NZD on Steam for a one-time purchase. The Elder Scrolls: Online is 39.95. Baldur's Gate 3 is 99.90 NZD. All one-time purchases. An expansion pack for The Sims 4 is typically about 40 NZD. And Animal Jam would have me pay 96 NZD for a MEMBERSHIP - not a one-time purchase, but a MEMBERSHIP. For gameplay I can remember having as a non-member before. In one 9 hour work day I make 180 after taxes, a rental here goes for about 400 - 500 A WEEK on average, and these mfs want us to pay four dollars short of ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a membership. Doable for a resident or citizen with a right to work full-time, maybe - but how's a PARENT meant to pay that money when public schools require payments too? We're not the only country having a recession! I haven't had to pay American bills but I'm sure they're just as brutal! So....Glad they've offered a way to get membership for free is what I'm saying - because the audacity of the micro-transactions in Animal Jam is what stopped me playing.

Honestly I think membership is 100% worth it. With the amount of benefits growing for members, and the items are getting better! Even if you don’t have a spare account, the games shouldn’t be a way just to get sapphire but to also have fun with your early experience in the game!
