After a long summer in West Texas, I'm mostly caught up on footage and ready to start rolling out Georgia content again! I have a few more Texas videos to post but have decided to post them along with the GA content over the next few weeks.
This video features my first outing since returning, an amazing hike on a rainy day in the mountains of North Georgia!

Thank you for pointing out the rocks that were moved and then just left. One of my most productive spots has been wrecked over the years by people that I trusted and took herping. It is the place that we went when you came up and found the timber. You are respectful to the habitat when out flipping and Im sure have probably seen great spots just go to trash by people coming in and destroying everything. I especially hate when there is a nice rock outcrop and herpers go in and roll the rocks down the hill as they go and keep digging around until all of the little micro habitats and rookeries etc. are decimated and you are left with an area that once had 2 or more timbers under one rock or like 5 copperheads under the same, now only the occasional copperhead will be seen.

Isn't it weird that the snakes seem to be getting along or is it me? The copperhead and rattlesnake were together with a toad. What about the lizards by the snakes being so close.
@colemorgan3356
@colemorgan3356 3 жыл бұрын
From what I've seen and heard, snakes are a lot more social than you'd think. Garter snakes get together in massive dens of often hundreds of other garters to hibernate. There's even a tourist attraction in Canada where people go to see these snake dens. My dad also told me a story once about how, when he was a kid and was living on a farm-like place for a bit, he lifted up a cover of some sort outside, and found tons and tons of all sorts of snakes, venomous and nonvemomous, just chilling and hibernating together, all in one big group. The snakes in this video were probably huddled up for warmth.

Hey Noah, I love your videos and for me you have the best herper content on KZfaq. I have been womdering, however , if you could do an education video on the ethics of field herping, specifically handling wild snakes. This is a topic that seems somewhat polarizing and controversial because of the stress that handling could cause to the animals. I myself love to field herp (I live in the Peruvian Amazon) but I must admit that this is a point that is bothersome to me internally...it's a bit of a struggle. So I would really love to have your input regarding how badly thai stress of handling the animal affects them while field herping and in general the ethics of doing so. Thanks !

@@tangofett4065 in my area of northwest Georgia (and all nw Georgia in general) if you find suitable habitat for copperheads you will more than likely find several in the same area. Search and learn about timber rattlesnake breeding behavior of the males and females and how both sexes differ in the way they move about from hibernaculum, rookery and summer locations. Timbers only breed, i believe, every 4 or so years and I grew up where my family has property in the NW Georgia mountains in the Chattahoochee Nat. Forest and noticed that on certain roads I would witness big timber rattlesnakes crossing the road going toward the same areas every 4 or 5 years at the end of summer. Although I have found many timber rattlesnakes around here there were much fewer than copperheads.
