The most fearsome of Caribbean pacers disappeared into oblivion in the 1990s. Patrick Patterson is still around, though he does not quite remember the man he was, or his bowling spells which went down in history. But he is grateful for the dogged fan who travelled half-way around the world to his door - to hear his story.

Truly. But has anything happened to him? He seems a little forgetful of his playing days, and that is worrying considering he played at the highest level. I trust that if anything had gone wrong he is past it now and enjoying life. You are lucky to know him.

I was just a kid then and just started recognizing cricket stars. There were few TVs around & People in neighborhood used to watch matches together. They talked about Pattrick Patterson with respect. We used to identify the tallest and toughest pacer of our village ground with Pattrick. Then he just got vanished. Slowly we switched over to Courtney Walsh. RESPECT FROM INDIA.

Well said brother. As a kid I saw 1988 89 West Indies tour of India. How fast Patrick patterson bowled in that series with shared pace. You are right brother really feeling teary.

He’s just living his life. You recall his bowling every day maybe, he doesn’t. Played cricket decades ago and then moved on. Cricket is not everyone’s life and passion.

They turned their back on him led to him being depressed and drawn into another world i remember facing up to him in Sunlight cup season 1979-1981 ,guy was a monster even in trials the man was so fast never seen such speed again

Had the pleasure of knowing Patrick in his time at Lancashire, he had digs in Northenden and I used to have pleasant chats with him every time I saw him, elegant, polite and an absolute gentleman, a tower of a man, I'll never forget his smiling face peering through my works window which was just a small slit set about 6 foot high, he didn't need to even stretch to peer inside. Made a massive impression on me. All the best Patrick.

@@happygal1152 Not really the only thing i can say is that on his day my word he would easily top 95 mph and on many occasions he would bowl fast medium I saw him bowl at Lord's against Middlesex in 1991 Walsh and Marshall were much were much quicker than him , but what a throwing arm he had effortlessly fast and flat. 1984-85 he played for Tasmania he had a bust up with his captain so in the nets he bowled 35 bouncers in a row at him so there was mean side to him.That's all i know about him.

It’s a privilege to see Patrick Paterson speak. Remember as a kid, he was know for his fierce pace and height ! All the cricketers of today are able to enjoy lucrative careers because it’s greats like Paterson that generated public interest in the game with their distinguished display of craftsmanship!!

Being so far removed from the sport that Patrick can't even remember certain outstanding parts of his stellar career says alot to me. We must not allow our athletes fall out of sight out of mind. They brought us too much glory to be forgotten. This is so sad

i am from india , city nagpur, i have seen patrik patterson bowl at nagpur and reduce india to some 5 down less than 100, then kapil dev came into bat to do some repair work but eventually india lost that match, kapil dev scored some 70 odd runs,, seeing patrik this way its saddening , he was indeed a star bowler, who bowled really really quick and accurate in a world cup too, i saw him bowl against pakistan , my 1st match to have a glimpse over patrik,,

Although Kapil Dev' contribution was mainly as a bowler. It is often over looked what a good batsman he was. During the golden era of all-rounders he was better than Hadleee as a batsman probably the equal or better than Botham but below Imran Khan. The innings you described emphasize the point of what a great batsman he was, attack against any bowling attack regardless of the situation state of the match. He wasn't just a fast scoring big hitting batsman he could bat in difficult circumstances.

@@briansukhu4392 I grew up by seeing all these Legends...Kapli,Imran,Botham and Handler. I am not an expert who could argue who is the best all-rounder of those times. Though all of them are impressive Kapil, Handlee are too good in their clean fair play. In terms of Gentle men Kapil Dev is my Hero. Handlee and Botham demands lot of respect. But interms of arrogance and haughty Imran comes to me.

64 balls, 87 runs from Kapil. Had he faced another few balls, Kapil could have hit the second fastest oneday century at that time. Kapil came in when India were 5 down for 31. India cannot have another Kapil. True legend.

The WICB needs to do something for this man! I'm highly surprised and disturbed that the West Indians that played with him haven't reached out. A couple of months ago, a fellow broadcaster asked Dujon about him and he said he had not spoken to him in years. I'm shocked his fellow Jamaican, Dujon has not reached out to him. He is right there in your country.

I remember kids in my community used to copy his bowling style, start the run-up, hesitate for a moment to correct the stride and then to bowl with brutal force like a stallion on the charge. Masterclass.

I still remember him bowling lightening fast at Delhi test 1987 on TV. He bowled a bowl outside the offstump at 95+ miles to Raman Lamba the opener. The bowl cut sharply inside and Raman was just lifting his bat but his offstump was rooted out. India was all-out at 75 runs. Then in 1987 world cup due to the atleast 14 overs in an hour rule, he cut short his runup but to get the rythem he drummed his feet over the ground before starting the runup. What a fast bowler he was

I empathise with some of the things you mentioned he revealed to you about what happened since he stopped playing. But he is in a nice spot and is living his life, reunited with his kids as well. I watched the video and read the article in the description. It's high class journalism - determined and questioning, yet sympathetic and respectful. It also raises a lot of questions without feeling like it has to project too many answers. And it brings a tear to my eye; as a kid ,his was the only action I would always try to copy. It's sad to hear some of Patrick's story , but I hope he can keep on top of his demons. It would be intersting to hear what some of his ex-teamates have to say about how and why he was dropped etc..

Patrick rambo Patterson. One of my favourite. Hurts my heart. The west Indies treated him badly. I spoke to him personally for about an hour and he told me some things. Humble and pleasant man.

Patrick Patterson was the fastest West Indian bowler ever. As a kid I used to hear his name quite frequently. Just ask Graham Gooch about the 1985-86 Test Series. His best performances were in 1985-86 v England, 1988-89 v Australia, 1991 v Australia and 1991 v England. He could have played for West Indies for many more years, but I think West Indies Cricket Board done him over. I am so happy to see this video and to know Patrick has been found well and safe. I wish him all the best.

Apparently, a British bowler named Charles Kortright had bowled 'six' byes when his bouncer went over the wicket-keeper's head and only bounced after it had crossed the boundary

this journalist is owsum. patrick patterson was god, had he got just a lil control over his line and length, he would have been among the greatest of the greats. i feel for those who has to face his pace.

Zuckerberg maybe - he's pretty much the anti-christ (and I'm an atheist..), but Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are philanthropists, and are investing and spending their billions to help others, when their own government doesn't give a shit. If either of those aren't sleeping peacefully , then it's because they still have more to do.

Great to see the fearsome bowler of late 80s after so many decades. Feels bit of sad to see him in this way when some of his formidable peers are either doing commentaries, or coaching cricket teams. Hope he is happy in his way . God bless him, and thanks to Bharat Sudershan for going all the way to the Carribean and tracking this once a great cricketer.

Watching videos of him 25 yrs ago is had to believe he come to this...West Cricket Board have bad reputation to its players...and there is one shred of evidence of WCIB having any responsibility the individuals should be held personally responsible...the worst part of all this some board members are past players themselves. My all time favourite West Indian fast bowler. I loved his earlier run-ups, it was a nightmare when he took those baby steps and then that kick at the end. Never can forget watching him bowl.

I used to be always scared of Indian batsmen losing their wickets whenever this guy came to bowl. Fast, great run-up and bowling action. I would say he was scarier than even Malcolm Marshall.

Many thanks to the journalist for making this video. Happy to see Patto after 2 decades, I watched his bowing on TV against India in the Tri series at Australia in 1991 - 92 & also in few other series Watching this great bowler running at menacing speed and delivered extremely quick and unplayable deliveries. It was soo thrilling to watch his bowling. He got beautiful action and lethal pace & bounce which terrified most of the batsmen. I feel somewhat sad to see his present life, he deserves more . Even T20 Player's are earning millions nowadays but this great man lives in almost poverty conditions. My humble request to all those wealthy Cricketers - PLEASE HELP PATTO. He deserves a better life. God Bless Patterson the Great
