This is a pretty special video. The Hellbender is an animal that I had dreamed of seeing ever since I was only a kid but never really thought I would ever succeed in seeing a wild individual. Back in the summer of 2021, the opportunity of a lifetime came along to actually see these salamanders in their natural habitat. My friend Zach Davis (@nonesoherpetological on IG) and I met up with a buddy of ours, Andrew Jones (@forlorn.forest.freak on IG) to go herping at a spot where he claimed we would find at least 1, and probably multiple, Hellbenders. Andrew was not kidding when he said this. We ended up finding 5 Hellbenders by the end of this day that would end up being one of the most special and memorable herping excursions of my entire life!
