If you're looking to replicate that Casablanca jacket without significant expense, that "safari" style came back in the 70s and the lines of the jackets would require very little alteration to get there. Also, 70s patterns are plentiful in a range of sizes. Just a suggestion that you might be able to find something really similar for a bargain. 🙂

You could do an entire video on re-creating Edith Head designs. I went through a stage that I watched/rented movies JUST because she designed the gowns. She was amazing at making women look stunning. Cheers!

Well, considering the Robe de style was designed first by Lanvin since 1920, most of the patterns are based from extant garments of her label, but the one you mentioned is more obvius since she was the first that designed the same type of dress with that shape and without panniers or a petticoat attached on the slip or on the dress (A.k.a without those foundations) ♡

I loved this video so much I always loved ginger Rogers dresses as a kid and I always wanted to make one for myself maybe when I get better at sewing I can make one one day…though probably not the feather dress lol

Edith Head did NOT make Audrey Hepburn’s dress for the dance. That design was made by Hubert de Givenchy. According to Jay Jorgensen in his book on Head, the sketch sent out to the press (which made it look as if Head did the designs for the film) was made to send to the seamstresses in order for them to recreate Givenchy’s design. Givenchy didn’t get a single bit of credit for the clothes that he designed for the film, because of Edith Head, who even accepted an Oscar for the designs and never made a peep acknowledging him. (!) She was notoriously territorial over the Hollywood film designs that were, for the most part, designed by her department. She was a great designer, but Givenchy absolutely made that character (Sabrina), thanks to Audrey Hepburn bringing him in to design for the film. Hepburn and Givenchy worked together for a long time, and had a close friendship. Givenchy designed Hepburn’s clothing for seven of her subsequent films, and also designed her personal wardrobe. There’s an interesting documentary about the fashions of the movie right here on KZfaq!

You said Robe de Style exactly as I've always heard it, so gold star. I do love the 20's "here's a fabric tube with a bunch of shit on the hip to make it stylish" look. Probably because I'm not an hourglass in the slightest, and it's easy to self-draft. But the Lanvin Robe de Style is on my list as well, I'm gonna make one. Tons of love for Schiaparelli, Edith Head, and adapting vintage styles to suit ourselves.

I have ALWAYS wanted the silver lame dress that Peggy Sue wore to her reunion in Peggy Sue Got Married... I saw it as a little girl and I've wanted it ever since... I STILL want it ! .. the skirt part is layered .. the problem is I cannot find ANYTHING with a similar bust... I know it was a style, but it's like patterns don't exist, it just "poofed" into existence. Also want a certain Barbie coat .. that I think I will have to frankenstein a pattern, using a robe pattern.

Just found this and it reminds me of a movie that I watched years ago, called A New Kind of Love. It's a standard Hollywood love story of the 60's, but this was about the fashion industry and potential espionage of it. I remember Paul Newman and Zsa Zsa Gabor as actors in it. If anyone chances to find it and watch it, I hope you enjoy it too. Mostly for its cheesy love story, but certainly for it's part in showing us just a bit of fashion.

As a note about the Dior bar suit/ensemble. If you want to recreate this look, the skirt is actually fully pleated, not gathered. A gathered or circle skirt, however, could pass.

When I was a kid I played on the monkey bars so much I got blisters too! We ended up going to the gymnastics supply store and getting gymnastics gloves, which I actually hated and never used, and eventually my hands just calloused up. But I don't think the school cared because I was in elementary school in the mid-80s, which were wild times.
