Wow...I'm in awe. Math has been my weakest of weak spots my entire life, and honestly...when I clicked on this video, I was expecting some kind of an animated equation I wouldn't understand, and was ready to tune it all out and just enjoy the visuals. But the amount of creativity, heart, and tenderness that went into making a full story--one that resonates with the heart just as much as the brain--touched me deeply. 🥰 At the end, when Y spoke about variables being more about relationships than value, it clicked something into place, and I now have a desire to try studying math again. Thank you to all who worked on this video! It's a true inspiration!

I don't know anything beyond basic math, has never been my thing so I'm not able to spot math references but I can spot a good and well-written story very well as a writer myself. The stop-motion looks very good and the colors you used are not much like any other I've seen in a stop-motion film, they are very vibrant. The ryhmes give the story a fairytale vibe, I think this short film is going to be a classic in 10 years. We will come back to this beauty to appreciate it's nostalgic wonders in the future and yearn for the past where everything felt more simple and innocent. Well done!

I'll be listing all the references I find here. If there are any more or any that are wrong, please let me know! I'm only 11 so I'm bound to make some mistakes. 0:20 ; • Cartesian Court is a reference to the Cartesian Plane • L'hospital is a reference to L'hospitals rule 0:30 ; • The twins are labeled as 1^2 • 2 is the successor of 1 ( 1 + 1 ) • 3 is the successor of 2 ( 2 + 1 ) • The background has the Towers of Hanoi when it comes to x. ( There's also a figure on the window that I forgot. ) 1:10 ; • 1729 is known as the taxicab number, also known as the smallest number that can be expressed as the sum of 2 different cubes, in 2 different ways • δ ( Delta ) is used to denote a change in calculus. • π ( Pi ) is the ratio between a circle's circumference and diameter. • The rollercoaster actually shows integration or finding the area under the curve. ( took me a moment to realize...) 1:30 ; • The painting has a parabola. • The flowers are addition and multiplication symbols instead, but I'm assuming multiplication because, 'times table.' • The Klein bottle. 1:53 ; • The painting has a cubic. • The bowl has knots and crosses. 2:15 ; • The painting has either a parabola or a cosh x function. • The game of life papers on the desk ( I think ) 2:20 ; • The sin/cos wave on the sign... ( this is the holy grail of all math dad jokes. ) 2:40 ; • A problem from the JEE advanced on the right paper. • 42 studying the unit circle on the complex plane. 2:45 ; • 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + .... infinity = [cut off the paper] (x is an integration, so 42 is doing summation, is my interpretation) • sin x / x = sin 3:30 ; • X landed on the island of the Roman Numerals. 3:40 ; • The volcano has a pinball-looking machine ( I forgot the term- ) 3:50 ; • M is the main statue as it is the highest value in roman numerals. 4:05 ; • X is 10 in Roman Numerals, so it got assigned number 10. 4:30; • The shield on the left has Pi, the one on the left has Σ ( Sigma ) denoting the summation of a pattern. 4:45 ; • X > V ( 10 is greater than 5, therefore in the hierarchy, X has a higher role than V. ) 5:10 ; • X doesn't know its value yet, so it can change into any value, correct or wrong 5:50 ; • Each number for each subset of math is assigned a value from the Fibonacci numbers, 1597 is the 17th number of the sequence. 6:25 ; • The unit circle on the abacus door. 6:50 ; • The giant infinity in the background. • Many prominent figures in math can be seen, such as the natural log, the nullity, the golden ratio, and 0. 7:20 ; • Tried doing a google search for acutius and obtusius, but got nothing, so it must be a reference to Acute and Obtuse. 7:50 ; • Another set of prominent math figures, such as pi ( again again ), Euler's number, i, and k. 8:15 ; • Reference to the fact that any ellipse, circle, or line on the cartesian plane can be shown by equations using x and y. And those are all I could find!

I'm truly amazed! Not only the story itself was really good, but the animation is outstanding! I like it how universal the meaning is, and that you can think of math as about our lives. That everyone is different and sometimes it's hard to find ourselves. Maybe we just need to understand that it doesn't matter who we are, because we are always important and crucial. There cannot be mathematics without x, and so there cannot be world without you.

Hello Toby! I don’t believe I’ve ever commented on one of your videos, but this time I’ve decided I’m going to. This mathematical short film was AMAZING. I haven’t always been a “math person.” I’ve always only scratched the surface of mathematics, but after subscribing to your channel, I discovered the wonders math and science, as well the beauty of their simplicity. My whole life, I’ve always felt like I haven’t found my purpose in life, and without one I “had no value.” This is why I connected to x so much. It’s unknown, but when you think about it, x can be anything and do so much. Your video reminded me that it’s okay not knowing my value or purpose. After watching this, I connected to math on a personal level, and I love it even more. Thank you so much! I love your content and keep it up! 😁😁👍😊

What a creative and unique way to explore the beauty of mathematics! 'Finding X' had me hooked from start to finish, and I came away feeling inspired and motivated to learn more about this fascinating subject. Thank you for sharing this wonderful short film.

This is so cool i wished we had something like this when i was in school learning about finding x, it would've definitely made it so much cooler and interesting to learn, kids today are so lucky to have so many cool resources for learning! this was so well done and written, congrats to all the animators and writers, such a beautiful piece of art and education!

If There's no structure to this resource gathering then one can easily find depression and hopelessness at the end of it, not to mention dissociation from themselfs. So yes, while we have so many great resources, we are also being thrown so much more bullshit at our faces that overshadows most of the good and meaningfull Information that are instead replaced by the fruitless endeavour of the internet addiction and its quirks . Learn to use your weapons as they say, cuz they can either help you or destroy you, especially at an young age.

Dang! There were so many math puns and references scattered through this video, the creativity you used to put it all fittingly together into the story… Genius! Brought back the memories of when I took calculus in HS (my favorite topic). Awesome work Tibes 👏

Hey Toby! I wanted to comment on this video, as I haven't commented on any video for the past few months and that this video deserves it the most. Simply put, this is one of the most beautiful and inspirational short films I've ever seen. Math is still my Achilles' Heel, but watching this film made me even more determined to find X whenever I solve equations or functions of any kind. You always keep inspiring youngsters like me into becoming interested in mathematics and appreciating the beauty of it. Thank you so much for this video and much love from Seattle!

I could feel the effort of Tibees and the team in every second of the animation , the story is phenomenal, this could be a series or even an entire movie that would be amazing for children. I want to show this so badly to my math teacher, for her to find the references hiding in every corner of the short film uwu You are amazing Tibees, and congratulations to you and the team 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It was so lovely with all the hard work, I got literal chills around the end. Impressed by all the smartness in your work, I decide to share it with all my friends. I really loved all the math references like the fibonacci numbers as the pages of the ancient book. You gained all my respect with this piece of master art and it ain't going around anywhere from my heart. I can now understand how difficult it was to make all lines rhyming.
