I think the art being parodied in this scene is art that's incredibly transparent yet has to be interpreted as opaque and meaningful to make money. It's the pretension and commercialisation and arbitrary nature of what is considered proper art that is abysmal, not art itself.

Back in 1994 I saw an exhibition where there were a bunch of washing machines piled on top of each other and roped into not falling down against a wall. There was also a huge white canvas which was partitioned into six large equal sized squares by three yellow lines, one horizontal and two vertical. In the same exhibition, I saw two paintings by Peter Doig whose work I had never seen before. They were extremely evocative and I absolutely loved them. Generation Z are no more likely to produce utter sh*te art than my generation ( Gen X ) or the boomers who constantly ( and predictably, and rather lamely ) criticise them. They are also probably no less likely to produce sh*te art, and they are no more or less likely to produce good art either. Sh*te has always existed. Over time it gets filtered out so we just see the good stuff from any given generation. The fact a lot of people are unable to see this and constantly berate the generations which follow their own is evidence of their own egocentricity rather than evidence of a generations inability to do a particular thing.

I went to an art museum with a friend, and all he did was complain about the modern stuff saying "it makes no sense, it has no meaning". Who cares if it has a meaning or not, if it's enjoyed or memorable in some way, then that's still something isn't it? You don't have to sit there and pretend there's more to it than there really is. A tin of Campbell's Soup is exactly that and no more.
