Don't people realize that the Sims literally started as an architecture simulator before a life simulator? The decision to add Sims to the game rather than it just be a building game happened rather late in development. The building mechanics are the absolute foundation of the game imho.

I know, right? I might sound sassy, but I think casuals often don't know how world works, including video game development. Well, I don't know the intricacies of game development as well 😁BUT that said, I'm pretty sure it's obvious, that Paralives team is not hiding anything and they haven't even started properly working on gameplay. They are most likely creating assets, basic systems, things that they will use for gameplay later on. They are brainstorming concepts and experimenting with some in practicality. There is no way we are seeing gameplay at least for a year (maybe even longer). But no: people think that ParaTeam has done some much more then they show and that they have functioning worlds and people in them...

EXACTLY. Also, this team is tiny. Paralives is not gonna come anytime soon, and that's perfectly fine. It's a crowdfunded indie game, for crying out loud! The people working on it are skilled as fuck, but their resources are limited, so this will take time. I would rather they take things slow and steady than rush things and come out with a mediocre game. They're doing amazingly so far.

@@exlibrisas I agree but the same people already claiming like this game is a godsend and expect it to be ready in like 2 years when the game is barely in alpha and it's been a couple of years since the announcement. The game has a LONG way to go to be near finished. I'd say at least 4 more years for the basic stuff to be implemented. And they promised seasons, compex pregnancies and disabilities in base game which easily could take another couple years alone. I really doubt that they won't be doing any DLC as funding game this ambitious isn't realistic for an indie company who have almost no funding.

I agree Jesse, we shouldn't pressure paralives to overtake sims. I like that they're taking their time. It should be fully developed before released and should be held to the standards of an indie game. I'm afraid that many people put too much faith on it and will be disappointed that it's not a "sims but fixed". We should hold it as it own entity. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Unfortunately James Turner/Sims supply accidentally fell into that (I dont think he'd ever do that deliberately) which really disappointed me as I could see how that affected the comments which were all comparing it to sims also. He also accidentally spread misinformation saying there was no grid when there was. I loved Jesse's video though and I'm glad she mentioned it. Its so easy to do but could also really hurt the game

@@aspannas I got a bit annoyed lately too, I don't like the way he forces the same stuff in each playthrough. For example he uses a half wall for the shower wall instead of a window, just so he could put a random thing on the trim to be "funny". And then he moves his sim and does the same joke again and it's getting old...

It really shouldn't be held to the title, it should be seen as Paralives, it's own game not just a fixed version of another. Especially since we've only seen a build mode we don't really know what to excpect from gameplay. I'm sure it'll be great but, as you said, people are gonna be so disappointed in it when it actually comes out if they keep holding it to that standard and the game will most likely be the one blamed.

Paralives should be allowed to Flourish. The building is clearly GOOD, great, fantastic as it is right now as a small indie team. The sims 1 didn't come out with the customisation that the sims 2 does, it was a stackable effort.

100% support the fact that all the simmers I watch that have reacted to paralives always make a big point to tell people to leave paralives alone and don’t hold them to the same standards of a well established game company.

Completely agree, they have a smaller team and even with that they are still working as hard as they can. I believe it was just 4 in the beginning people and with just 4 people on their team they have already gone so far and have surpassed many peoples expectations. But when people are constantly comparing them to the Sims and what they need to have to be better then the Sims they don't seem to think how that can effect the people who are actually working to make this game the best it can be. Paralives isn't the Sims, it shouldn't be compared to it. It is a stand alone inde game that has worked it's way up from the bottom. So I 100% agree with yiu

I hope they stick with it, I'm so sick of "WoW is cartoony, look at those graphics lol." Games like Dishonored have amazing style *because* they are stylized (Dishonored 2 doesn't count and should be abolished from history, and ironically one of its faults is that it's way too detailed visually).

The fact that people are mad at "the lack of gameplay" It's an indie life sim that's been in development for 2 years. This isnt like an ea or industry game, they NEED to give updates like this because that's HOW THEY GET PAID. When a game starts in the public eye, either updates are public or the game fails It's not going to be in alpha or beta for another year or so

I really just the style that Paralives is taking. It’s *just* realistic enough to be immersive but cartoony enough to still feel like a game. I’m really digging it all so far and can’t wait to see how it turns out in the future

I LOVE THIS ANALOGY. people need to remember that this is a VERY small team of developers here! I think they're doing amazing for what it's worth, although I do wish we could see more gameplay I understand that it's not very well polished yet and that they're focusing on the building aspects first and that is perfectly okay with me.

I'm excited for paralives I think it has a lot of potential but I wish people would stop equating it with the sims.i don't really think it, as an indie game, will stand up to a multi million dollar studio of hundreds of employees. That being said it being what it is it's very exciting and it looks great so far. Whether or not it is even comparable to sims in the end I won't regret supporting or buying it in the end.

somehow, as a child, I got my hands on an architectural design program called My House that let you build and decorate hyper-realistic (as realistic as pc programs n the 90s got) building plans. Thats really where my love for the sims all started..

I get motion sickness playing games, Minecraft makes me really sick, and I can't play anything on the switch without a migraine. Fortnite has a setting thankfully and I do get nausea when the Sims lags. Loving your work babe x

I have the same, but I can play it without getting sick for longer if I turn down the sensitivity settings (so that I can't turn around as quickly) which makes the game a lot more playable.

i just think it’s weird that everyone is putting so much pressure on paralives to be the new sims. imo nothing will replace the sims for me BUT i am excited to play this game as well. People are already complaining about paralives because they expect it to blow the sims out of the water, and everyone’s going to be inevitably disappointed when it doesn’t live up to their impossible standards

@@pedro6720 if this were true, Sims 4 would have way more competition. But they don’t. Why? Because making a life simulation game to the level of the Sims is kinda hard. That being said… Sims 4 is EXTREMELY lacking in some crucial areas, especially compared to the last 2 instalments 😂😂

I hope that the development of paralives kicks ea up the bum! Paralives is already showing that it's not impossible for FULLY customisable everything - windows, walls, sofas etc. And they're doing things like platforms and round walls straight out the gate. Really excited for paralives and that this type of building gameplay is actually possible. Goodby frustration at ea!

If I’m not mistaken I think some of the build is sped up. That being said I think the movement of plants/landscaping will be less dramatic in normal speed. But like you said, I’m sure you can pause it too. Love the video 💗💗💗

There is enough room for more life and build simulation games. One doesn't have to lose for the other to win. Sims has been the only one until now so I understand the comparison but I think there should be even more games like this not just paralives and sims. Competition is healthy. Monopoly leads to complacency.

happy birthday!! you're definitely not alone in getting motion sick from games; for me playing games with a lot of motion (usually FPS or other camera-heavy games) makes me quite ill if I'm new to the game or I haven't played in a while. it also just happens randomly sometimes for me as well.

I'm starting to think this is the case. Lately some of the comments I've seen about Paralives from who I thought were just skeptical people (nothing wrong with being skeptical) seem almost hateful and spiteful towards it with a lot of praise for The Sims 4, almost as if they're hoping Paralives doesn't happen or isn't good. If Sims 4 is their thing then that's fine but there's nothing wrong with having two life simulator brands on the market.

There's probably like a limit which they'll aim for so if you make a table really tiny it stops working? (Like have a little symbol pop up when it's too big or small?) I have no idea just guessing a way it could work

They've said on their patreon that they're working on that at the moment, but the idea is, as long as there's enough room your Para will be able to use it. What I imagine is, if you place a chair next to a table, the chair will effectively be snapped to the table, but you can just rotate freely, then when your Para goes to sit down, the chair will automatically move to be properly aligned for the sitting animation. I could be totally wrong, I've never made an animation before let alone a game, but that's what makes sense in my head.

@@lickthismiff I think they're planning having the Para actually move the chair in place before sitting but yeah, they have already thought about ways to handle to the customization in live mode. Honestly, having a low table and paralives sitting around it on the floor or a cushion would be kind of cool too.

The thing is, all we have right now to compare to is Sims 4, but by the time when Paralives comes out it may actually be up against Sims 5. Meanwhile, Paralives is showing their whole process in order to pull in fans, but that means Sims team can see every single thing Paralives is doing and simply put enough in Sims 5 to counter it, whereas Paralives team hasn't got a clue what's new in Sims 5.

Maybe motion sickness is what my problem is? I’ve realized that playing most games (some definitely worse than others) longer than 15-30 minutes makes me have a killer migraine and feel dizzy. I get pretty car sick too so maybe it makes sense 🤔

Check the FOV settings (and google the game and whether to turn it up or down), turn off head bob, turn off motion blur... there are a lot of ways to fix a game, but some games can't be fixed for those of us who are susceptible to motion sickness (Dying Light and The Division, I'm looking at you).

since you mentioned realistic building and house flipper, you might get a kick out of Landlord's Super. It's like a lovechild of house flipper and stardew valley, but set in 80s england in an economically struggling small town. you get to do everything by hand, but somehow that makes the game really chill. it's made by a team of two i think, so definetely worth supporting

I get seasick from 3D movies and when my third graders in my classroom bounce on their exercise/yoga balls at different speeds. Multiple times a year, my students hear, “Stop bouncing for a moment! I keep seeing comments about wanting to see the Parafolk interact with the world…. Did no one see the parafolk slap the mosquito at the beginning of the video? (Ik you wanna see em with the chairs, tables and beds) A member of the team posted on their Twitter how they are working with getting the Parafolk to interact with the objects properly depending on the height of them. So if you wanna see the basic outline and rough animation of the Parafolk I suggest reading through their Twitter to see it. They are working hard to make the animations work with every height 💗

i love that you can upload your own files as images. that’s really missing for me in the Sims 4. I have a lot of screenshots of my sims that I would like to decorate the house with but you can’t with the game’s features.

love the details- noticed how they put toilet paper AND a plunger next to the toilet. Like they are creating a fantastic building game. Im excited to see gameplay, but no pressure to them.
