These nun's orders should have MAJOR holdings taken away and divided up between the victims of this horror and their families. To think they hold over a billion euros worth of property, acquired by slave labour and its monetary benefits is an outrage. The MacAleese report barely scratches the surface of what was done to these people. It is certainly a whitewash of the highest order. They have not nearly gotten justice yet. It is recent enough that it can be dealt with fairly and expediently. The State is accountable for sure, but the nuns and the Catholic church have just walked away without consequence. The most heinous thing is that it was about MONEY. Not religion, not sins, not proper behaviour...MONEY. One of the most healing things you could do for these women would be to bring to a public panel, THE CHURCH - the heads of these respective Nun's orders and the Bishop of Ireland to speak to this issue. Validation would be extremely healing for these women.

I watched the end of this on the news and assumed The Government were trying to break the world record for clapping for the longest period of time.

Yet, not one word for the perpetrators of the shame, humiliation, hurt and infamy. Not one reference to the overseers of that incarceration, the willful neglect, the abuse and dehumanization of those women and girls. Which, in my opinion, dilutes the entire spirit of the apology. To have mentioned the Orders who ran those laundries would have introduced a crystal clarity to proceedings. But, again, the perpetrators got away Scot free. Justice has been miscarried by rosaries, again.

Remember, it takes the Catholic church several centuries to apologize as they did with Galileo just recently. That's if they apologize at all. It's the Irish Catholics who must shame their church into admitting its crimes against women and girls. It's all just so sickening.
