You are an excellent teacher. I had a dulcimer made for me back in 1984, but couldn't find a teacher so I put it away until now. Thank you for getting me started to truly learn this beautiful instrument!

@@BanjoLemonade Now that I'm changing the strings (because of an old broken string) and new picks as well. I noticed that the nut and bridge were broken :( It took me two hours to chisel out the old glued-in plywood ones. I ordered a new set from Folkcraft. (happy happy) What a great company by the way. I called and left a message AND THE GENTLEMAN ACTUALY CALLED ME BACK. Great talk too. I'll get this 15-year-old $99.00 China dulcimer up and running soon. :) Hey, you gotta start somewhere. I figured out that it was a Kentucky-style teardrop. :) Now, with your help, I'll learn how to play at least one great gospel song, hopefully "In Christ Alone" :) p.s., that's all I want to play, old hymnals. Thank you so much for your videos and God Bless :)

Love watching your videos. I've been thinking of purchasing a mountain dulcimer and have been researching for the last 2 to 3 months. Just curious, what is the vsl on the dulcimer you are using in the video.

oh it’s real long - 28.5” I had to sell it because my hands and wrists were hurting. Now I play a 25” and love it so much.

Do you put your finger beside the fret? Or in between 2 frets?

I have a 5 string dulcimer and my fingers are not thick enough to fret both bass or treble string without using the whole finger. What can I do? Also thank you for the wonderful banjo and dulcimer videos. Greetings from Kentucky.

All I can think of is to try putting all your fingers down and your thumb goes down like this (all fingers first fret, thumb at 3rd). Just so you understand what I mean there, then you can just put your thumb at the edge of the fretboard. Sorry but I haven’t tried a 5 string.

The one and only 5 string I've seen was made so you could remove one of the doubled strings and still have the strings evenly spaced. If yours is like that you could try it.
