The man is a natural talent. dropped out of Juilliard and went to work, he can’t even read sheet music. He knows his voice even on those little falsetto notes, he’s so in control of that tone. His voice isn’t aging quite yet, It’s still the epitome of masterful.

I agree, so many here critiquing his falsetto but he probably knows way more about how to control his voice than some of these guys. Singing high doesn’t mean singing loud. His technique is incredible even at that age!

He’s still got it! And let me just say, even acoustically, the emotion of this song never fails to hit the heartstrings.

I don't think age has hindered his voice at all, if anything it is more refined. He is fantastic, even after his illnesses and it being 25 years later.

This is a great example of how a Lyric tenor can naturally darken to something more dramatic. Mandy initially tried to sing this as if he was still 20/30s but when he releases his voice we hear the naturally matured and free timbre

I think that this song out of context is a lot deeper. If you think about it, in this context, the song can be read as an older man’s look back on the life he led as a younger man (and his regrets about it) and the devastation he still feels about the break up of a relationship. The “hat” could be seen as a metaphor for memory, as he tries to reconstruct what happened in the past and he’s “mapping out a sky” in his mind. He resolves himself to not exactly live in the past, but to acknowledge it and move past it.

I love Mandy, but this pales in comparison to his original performance. His voice has obviously gotten deeper over the years and he's probably a good baritone, but tenor stuff has slipped out of his range. It happens to everyone.

I agree the original was better but I'm not sure he's lost anything in his voice. He was trying to make this version unique and it didn't do it for me. I sang the original version in front of my speech class. I played the CD and sang over it. My teacher was a Sondheim fan, too. She loved it. Still my favorite play.

Mademoiselles... You and me, pal... Second bottle... Ah, she looks for me... Bonnet flapping... Yapping... Ruff!... Chicken... Pastry... Yes, she looks for me-good. Let her look for me to tell me why she left me- As I always knew she would. I had thought she understood. They have never understood, And no reason that they should. But if anybody could... Finishing the hat, How you have to finish the hat. How you watch the rest of the world From a window While you finish the hat. Mapping out a sky. What you feel like, planning a sky. What you feel when voices that come Through the window Go Until they distance and die, Until there's nothing but sky And how you're always turning back too late From the grass or the stick Or the dog or the light, How the kind of woman willing to wait's Not the kind that you want to find waiting To return you to the night, Dizzy from the height, Coming from the hat, Studying the hat, Entering the world of the hat, Reaching through the world of the hat Like a window, Back to this one from that. Studying a face, Stepping back to look at a face Leaves a little space in the way like a window, But to see- It's the only way to see. And when the woman that you wanted goes, You can say to yourself, "Well, I give what I give." But the women who won't wait for you knows That, however you live, There's a part of you always standing by, Mapping out the sky, Finishing a hat... Starting on a hat.. Finishing a hat... Look, I made a hat... Where there never was a hat

You’re kidding, right?…Mandy is one of the most human and humane actors out there, with a strong passion and commitment to advocating for others…not every actor relishes being a celebrity. If you’ve ever watched him interacting with his family on Instagram, you’d recognize that his is not the mind of a narcissist, but of a funny and devoted husband, father, and activist intent on making the world better for all.

Really? Because my definition of "narcissism" is a nobody with a fake profile, zero content, zero to offer anyone, who presumes that people on the Internet will care what he has to say about someone they almost universally like better. It must upset you quite a lot that you don't like this guy, and yet all of us prefer him to you.
