What a beautifully-restored tractor. The Ford engines, like the Masseys, had a very distinctive purr. You could hear them coming before you saw them. A shame that Ford stopped making tractors.

I think it’s 1973 judging by the windscreen frame style but to look that good at 50 years old is impressive.

What a beautiful tractor . You can see why your friend Gerry asked you to do those jobs . Your attention to detail and also having fond memories of this tractor , he knew you would have put as much love into it as he has done . I hope you find your old tractor and I bet you Gerry will be right there offering to help do the restoration with you .

They changed the Ford's from 4000 to 4600 around about 1976. The same as the 7000 to the 7600 before they brought out the q cab.

Think the tractor is no later than 75 as of 76 they were a 4600 then 77 started the bubble Q cab. Also that model the rear lights had one side a side light other side was brake light. My dad drove the 4000 for 24 years. Lovely looking machine

What a fantastic 4000 . We had on the farm I worked on, and after the dairy farm was sold , we brought it back to the arable farm and had a major clean-up. I'd often jump on it for small jobs before the modern tractors. Love it !! Great stuff, Adrian. Can I take the opportunity to wish you all and your subscribers a very merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and Happy New year 🎉

Going through a similar restoration myself with a Massey 2135/135 industrial. All that’s left in the middle of the workshop now is back axle, and chassie up to bell housing. Hopefully engine in sorted in machine shop soon and I’ll get it back to reassemble over holidays and then when the weather warms up sandblasting and painting will start

Hi Adrian a wee tech tip for you. Hot water and a good squirt of Fairy Liquid will help dissolve those green crystals. A paint brush will speed the process. When done smear grease on the terminals to prevent oxidization and prevent further corrosion. You probably know this already but check electrolyte level make sure it covering the top of the plates. Check the condition of the electrolyte with a hydrometer it may not be as efficient as it should be, may need to replace the acid and have the battery flushed out.

Hi Adrian, I see you cleaning the battery terminals, I found putting vaseline on the terminals really prevents corrosion. I would melt some in a metal tin jug with a long spout and gently pour the vaseline over the terminals. JJ in Ballincollig Cork.
@IFarmWeFarm
@IFarmWeFarm 8 ай бұрын
I normally put on a bit of spray on cooking grease but Vaseline would probably be a much better idea Jeremiah. 👌
@jeremiahkearney5191
@jeremiahkearney5191 8 ай бұрын
Melting temperatures of Vaseline is approximately 70°c. So a small metal jug containing Vaseline can be placed in a larger pot with water and boil the water. Pour the Vaseline over the terminals carefully, it will last the lifetime of the battery usually.

Wow Adrian big thanks for that, it brought back a load of memories as a young teenage schoolboy in the early 70s working on a 350 acre mixed arable farm in North Yorkshire. The 4000 was main tractor accompanied by a Fordson Dexta and I believe two Fordson majors. The Ford was in my eyes a big tractor then and used to do the ploughing 3 furrow fixed plough, Howard rotovator, baling ( we didn't have any silage back then). Harvesting etc. Hard work but good times.
