Best sounding bikes in the Finke. I loved hearing the guns rip down the track between Deep Well and Riding a and on the way as you leave the red dirt to the white hard pack there is a right hand turn followed by a gate way and Stephen Gall used to make that turn without backing off. I reckon Roe and Winter did the same. Epic. One of the nicest sounding bikes was Armstrong's 87 winner. I raced in 89 on a CR500RJ but did not finish.

The CRF450 4 stroke owns this race now.. However its only because its totably tame over all conditions. Give me Randell on a CR500 and he will make most of todays riders cry on their CRF's

@@lindalesabre They only sold a certain amout of bikes per year. It wasn't profitable enough anymore. And its no secret that Mr. Honda himself hated the 2-stroke, and wanted nothing to do with them.

I do get a bit emotional after a beer watching it. When i bought mine i remember the chaps saying have i got a death wish. I Wasn't nothing special on it. But could tell people that i ride a HONDA CR500. Sat on it with that tin tin tin sound and the bike full of vibration would give me butterflies.

I have a '97 CR 500 and its only second over, runs great, doesnt smoke or drool, and gets better mileage than most 4 strokes or even 125 and 250 2 strokes !

I want a 97 cr 500. I almost bought one but I couldn't afford it 😭

Ive gor a '88 & a '96, as well as a '97 KX500 & '83 YZ490. 😁 Still need a bunch for my collection/riding stable.

The dynamics of the two stroke engine is keeping it cool..the water cooled system on these bikes are over rated a lot..this is a dry sump engine..all lubrication is coming through its fuel..most two strokes when the fail it's through ceasing from heat expansion and the big bore two strokes had problems burning pistons on the exhaust port side..four strokes have constant oil on everything with plane bearings but two strokes have roller and needle bearings to minimize friction

Absolutely nothing to do with emissions at all. There are still a plethora of two stroke crossers being made, four strokes make more money when manufactured, look it up.
