Finland in the 1980s were criminally underrated. And that is a FACT.

Finland had some pretty great songs in the 70s and 80s but unfortunately underrated a lot. "Lapponia", "Fantasiaa" and "Eläköön elämä" are pretty epic.

2006 - Finland: "Fuck this competition, we never win. Let's send some weird shit!" 2007 - Finland: "17th place? Well, yeah. The hosting country usually doesn't win....." 2008 Finland: "WHAT THE HELL EUROPE! YOU LOVED LORDI!!! THis is also ROCK!" 2009 - Finland: "Fuck this competition, lets send eurodisco...." 2010 - Finland: "Ok... serious now Finland. Think... What do people think of when they hear 'Finland'? Gotta catch up with the ethno-trend! OH! Yeah! Throw in an accordion!" 2011- Finland: "Come ooooon now Europe! We do EXACTLY what everybody else does. Send a boring ballad with nonsense lyrics!" 2012 - Finland: "Fuck this competiton! Let the finland-swedes compete this year!" (Fun fact: Finland-Swedish is the most beautiful dialect in swedish. Finland had some great songs that have been so overlooked. Should of won in 1979, 1991 & 2007. Lordi wasn't the best Finnish song but I was so pleased for Finland in 2006. Made up for all the years of being overlooked. Hope they won't have to wait as long for their next win.

I have a soft spot for Finland, so many of their songs were underrated,,,,and a lot of their songs I have as my winners (like Playboy, Kun Kello Käy, Katson Sineen Taivaan and others) To be honest,,,,the underrated countries are my favorites in Eurovision all together.

13:50 criminally underrated. Would have ranked much better hadn't it been for Lordi being first at bringing metal to Eurovision.

As an American Finn. I just have to say one thing - if they had chosen Tommi Soidinmäki in 2011, Finland might have had a chance to win. He’s the greatest voice in Finland today.

First these songs were not so bad, some were actually and few became hits in Finland, second I hate our Sorry-that-we-exist-because-don´t-succeed-abroad mentality. Jumalauta ihmiset nyt pois se ruiskutus siitä ainaisesta huonoudesta!

2000 still hurts me. Nightwish was second in the Finnish qualifiers because of jury votes. Probably our best chance to win before Lordi, but instead we got Nina. What a wasted opportunity.

Like others I prefer countries to sing in their own language. But it doesn't score. Contrdictory rule thinking that you sing in your own language and then low points for not understanding it or finding it gutteral. Finland, Norway and Iceland the worst victims over the years. In general Finland give it all they've got. I tip my hat to you Finland, top efforts.68, 69, 71, 79 and 82 my favourites among many others.

So it took us 44 years to get out of pop tunes, apparently. Aside from a few exceptions only 2005 onwards did our range begin to vary more drastically. After Lordi's victory, we've been trying to send pretty much whatever into the contest, trying out what works. I suppose I'd like to see a classic rock or reggae song sent, since I find those genres strong here these days. I've got nothing against 'new music' getting sent, but I don't wanna see generic songs like Marry Me and Sing It Away sent to the contest, which blend too much with what comes out of a radio. (Aka, they're uninteresting) Also, I can't help but feel that we ramped up the standard for the contest stage in 2007. Although screens and effects were present previously, I like to believe we took it to a whole new level, with how we used animation and higher details for background effect as a more consistent whole.
