Finland Urges Ukraine To Strike “Inside Russia,” Challenge Putin’s Red Lines With Allies’ Weapons

A NATO* ally urged Ukraine to challenge one of Russian President Vladimir Putin's red lines amidst arms shortages on the front lines. Finnish Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen said Ukraine could use weapons provided by Helsinki to strike targets “inside” Russia. Hakkanen noted other Ukraine allies had provided "long-range missile systems" and were within their rights to "specify how they should be used". The Finnish defence minister also urged Germany to send Kyiv its long-range Taurus missiles "if they want to help Ukraine win". A Finnish parliament member went one step further, saying Ukraine "should" use the Finland-supplied arms to attack "military targets on the Russian side." Watch the video to know more.

The Finnish are just dangerously clueless - or trying to comfort their bruised selves eighty years after they were soundly defeated on the battlefield by the Red Army, in a war the Finns had started themselves as allies of Hitler in June 1941 I'm from Sweden, we share a long history with Finland (part of Sweden until 1809 and closely linked to us long after) - I have many friends from Finland, but am dismayed by discovering, over the last two years, how many Finnish people are indulging in various "dagger in the back legends" to try to explain away why they lost the war against the Soviet Union in 1944, and the amount of resentment over it from some people. They really want to dress it up as a war that Finland won, which is bollox!

It’s for the same reason that the USA would consider it a act of war by China if Xi Jinping supplied Cruise Missile Submarines to the Syrian Navy and the Syrian Navy used them to strike Seattle and San Diego with cruise missiles due to the American Troops currently invading and occupying Syria against the consent of the UN Charter internationally recognized syrian governemnt. Contrary to your exceptionalism belief you don’t get to say “that’s not the same” just because the nations you invade don’t share a border with you. It’s either acceptable for everyone or acceptable to no one. Same goes for if Russia would’ve supplied Missile Submarines to the Iraqi Navy and the Iraqi Navy used them to strike Atlanta and Miami with missiles, the USA wouldn’t say “Okay that’s fair, we’re invading you so you have the right to hit our cities back too” they would consider it a act of war by the countries who provided the weapons that enabled them to do it.

It's like I said while Finland's and Sweden's NATO application were still being considered, those two countries should have should blockaded the Baltic and conducted a three pronged operation.

I feel sorry for Finland for falling for America's cheap trick and agreeing to join the NATO pact. What did they need? Many Russians and Finns live on both sides of the border. They lived in peace many years. They say they are afraid of a strong Russia. Why? They can only benefit from cooperation with Russia and China. Russian officials, led by President Putin, have repeatedly stated that they have no territorial claims against European countries, and that means Finland as well. I hope that future time and reason will prevail over the rhetoric of war among Finland politicians.

And putin has also said that Crimea is part of Ukraine and that he respects Ukraines borders. Why would we believe him, when he says that he has no terretorial claims? The last conflict between the Kingdom of Sweden, Finland and the Russian Empire took place over 300 years ago. It's a long time ago isn't it. The Russian leadership has repeatedly emphasized that it does not have any aspirations or territorial claims towards Sweden, Finland and other neighbors. And why would Russia attack and threaten someone? Russia is the largest country in the world and has enormous natural wealth and resources and can live quite comfortably without anyone's help and is completely self-sufficient. President Putin and the Russian leadership constantly emphasize that they want political and economic cooperation with all countries of Europe and the world that are ready and willing to cooperate on an equal basis. Russia pursues a completely reasonable and peaceful policy. Russia is not the Devil and does not threaten or endanger anyone, which is not the case for the USA and certain European countries.

Well, up till now, Finland has officially donated a few thousand assault rifles, TRG-22 sniper rifles, hand grenades and smoke grenades, some 120mm mortars, 20-30 Sisu XA-185 wheeled APCs, a number of ZSU-23-2 anti-aircraft cannons, and a total of 6 Leopard 2R mine clearing vehicles. None of those armored vehicles (and technicals which the AFU might make using the AA cannons) are going to get within a mile of the border with Russia without being detected by a drone and getting wrecked, good luck striking any targets inside Russian territory. Except for the 120mm mortars with 7.3 km range, Finland has given nothing "long" ranged in particular till now, which the Ukrainians can use to hit military targets inside Russia. Houses or shopping malls, of course the AFU can call it a military base and hit it to show off their "power", since there are hundreds of small villages within a couple kilometres from the border. Unless Finland has taken the decision to donate their old 155mm howitzers in the new aid package, which is unlikely, the permission of Finland to use their weapons to hit targets inside Russia, is just for show since they haven't given anything long ranged enough to Ukraine. Edit: And yes, I forgot to mention, during the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive, 3 out of the total 6 Leopard 2R mine clearing vehicles were abandoned by the 47th Assault Brigade after a botched up blitzkrieg attempt south of Mala Tokmachka. So that's not 6, but 3 remaining Finnish Leopard 2Rs to strike inside Russia. Cheers!

In a secret addendum to the pact, Hitler and USSR divided the countries of Europe among themselves like best friends. Hitler was able to conquer new territories easily, Stalin thought Soviet army could do the same and take Finland in two weeks. On November 30, 1939, the USSR (population of 190.7 million) attacked Finland (population of 3.5 million) without reason.

Helsinki again refused, and the Red Army attacked on 30 November 1939. There are forests in Finland enough anyway and what would have been required after that. Finland wanted back the territories occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940. Is there something wrong with it ? Stalin really did try hard. Soviets lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers. In 1944 there was a rush to get the troops to Berlin before the USA so peace was thus a reasonable option. Only three European capitals were not captured in World War II, London, Moscow and Helsinki.
